Or I am a classless blowhard. It is Quebec I don't like, not Quebequois. It is years since I was called a hoser...thanks eh.

rest of the list is not too far off though.

Add to it the show "almost home made". Boy that makes me growl.

Oh, and "Top Chef" sucks. I owned and managed restaurants for 30 years. I would never have allowed that sort silliness to interfear with the bottom line. smile

Brussels sprouts are turd-surprise filled satanic baby cabbages.

Minute Rice is pure evil and should be banned.

Soft serve ice cream machines are a bacteriological minefield and a public health hazard.

Nearly anything from Chicago is defiled by association.

I can't decide if Light Beer is tastes like beer flavoured seltzer water, or seltzer water flavoured beer.

Red Bull tastes like a combination of children's chewable aspirin and a drunk diabetic's pi$$. [or so I imagine]

I like old, crotchety Sam and trust his cooking instincts, but might it be easier to list the few things Sam likes?
Posted By: Mannlicher Re: Stuff Sam Don't like - 12/09/09
Venison, Squirrel, good beef, thick pork chops, BBQ, Wild Turkey, Avocados, salsa, anything Italian, most French cooking that involves SAUCES, anything Hungarian, Tempeh, Duck, Quail and Dove, potatoes, Cheese, most cakes, pies, puddings, candy and cookies. laugh

Then we can get in to beer and whiskey !
Posted By: rob p Re: Stuff Sam Don't like - 12/09/09
I can't speak to Sam's likes and dislikes, but I know I'm kind of strange.

I am a human garbage disposal. I like Chinese steam table buffets (getting ill yet)? I even eat the sushi at the buffets (how bout now)! I'll eat just about anything you put on my plate, but there are a couple exceptions. I wonder how strange or even unique they are.

Back when I was little, all there was to eat was Italian food, and I got sick of tomatoes. I couldn't eat them for years. Eating tuna for lunch every day, I got sick of tuna too. I like tomatoes again, but run from the smell of a can of tuna opening. Jack Daniels also has that effect. I had a half a bottle one night in camp and some evil person gave me a shot of peppermint schnapps and I was dying sick for 24 hours. I can't even open a bottle of JD without getting queasy.

I can't eat peppers either. They make me throw up in seconds and turn me inside out. Unfortunately, that has kept me from sampling most all the Mexican food and just about anything spiced with hot sauce or ground chilis.

I had a similar experience as Rob P with Jack Daniels, but with tequila. A company Christmas party at a club, everyone ordering shots of tequila, and most of the ladies passing theirs to me after the first one or two. I have no idea how many I drank, but I was singing to my wife in French on the way home, and I hadn't spoken any French since 1972 in Viet Nam....and I was violently ill and felt like death-warmed-over all the following day. (I do not normally get hang-overs and can recall only 2, ever.) It took me a long time to even be able to drink a margarita and I still can't touch a shot of tequila - the smell makes my stomach churn, violently.

What kind or brand of Whiskey?
Posted By: Aileinduinn Re: Stuff Sam Don't like - 12/09/09
Jack Daniels is not on my favorites list.

A friend once called it "an insipid, over-sugared corn distillate favored mostly by juveniles and savages."

Whiskey thread... hmmm. Think we've done this one.
Posted By: mathman Re: Stuff Sam Don't like - 12/09/09
To put things in perspective what did your friend prefer?
Posted By: croldfort Re: Stuff Sam Don't like - 12/09/09
Poem (like Rocky Dennis in "Mask")

Things that are bad:
Cottage cheese
Liver
Tuna casserole
Salmon patties

Things that are good:
Fried pork steak
Prime rib
Fresh asparagus
Salmon patties

Life is good
Posted By: 458 Lott Re: Stuff Sam Don't like - 12/09/09
Another vote for brussel sprouts, the nice thing about being an adult is I don't have to eat em, and I won't make my kids eat em. My wife claims to like em, but last time she bought them they lanquished in the fridge until they went bad (course how can something that started bad, go bad?)

I've had Jack daniels twice, got sick both times. First time it just capped off a night of too many different drinks, second time I really didn't drink enough to make me sick, but my body must have associated the flavor with purging.

The only thing margerine is good for is rice crispy treats.

Don't like pancakes from a mix nor fake maple syrup.

You have my support there with hockey.
I watch 5 minutes of the last Stanley cup game each year. I do it so I know who was in the finals and don't look like an idiot at the coffee shop. My favourite team is the Winnipeg Jets.( they moved to somewhere in the states and are no Coyotes, or Jackals or lap dogs or some such name)

Golf is right up there with hockey, but Tiger Woods is trying to rectify that.

He drinks Crown Royal.
Also not on my list.

I like Beam for over the bar bourbon with cola.
I prefer Powers and Tully for Irish, and MacAllan for Scotch.

I can picture myself in the top bunk rolfing out the window every few minutes with my buddy popping little square chewable antacids he found in the cabinet in my mouth. All night, calling moose out the window. I did fine with Jack Daniels all through college until then. Since, I can't go near it. And +1 as they say on the brussel sprouts. They're nasty and cause me to give off a foul odor you can almost see. That reminds me, I was cutting up a deer last night and one of my friends let out a little squeak next to me. I had just eaten 4 beef tenderloins wrapped in bacon piled high with onions. Needless to say, his timing was poor. He thought it was funny until I waited for him to enter the walk in cooler and gassed him and slammed the door for a couple minutes. He said he's a plumber and he is not phased in the least, but after a minute he was crying to be let out. Is that wrong?

There's lots of things one or two molecules away from something else. We are only a couple chromosomes away from [bleep]....

Water is only a molecule or two away from oxygen or hydrogen.

I eat margarine - but I prefer at least the better ones that at least attempt to taste like butter. (Most of the time, I eat butter, but I'd be lying to say I never eat maragrine.)
Posted By: rattler Re: Stuff Sam Don't like - 12/11/09
dont care for spinach or brussel sprouts or cabbage or the like....also really dont care for spaghetti or pan fried chicken(ate them to often as a kid i guess) dont care for wines made from grapes or whiskey.....cant stand cheap vodka but love good vodka and farm wines(raspberry, mead ect).....

list of things i dont like is long but both my brother and i can tough it out and down most anything....ive got a pretty strong stomach and its rare for me to get food poisoning even eating questionable stuff.....just various tastes i dont care for and avoid if possible.....however if i aint doing the cooking i dont complain and will eat whatever....

AMEN!

BUT...I pickle them with this recipe:

http://www.uga.edu/nchfp/how/can_06/pickled_cauliflower_brussel.html

This negates any 'turd like' sprout flavor and they just taste like the pickling juice (not bad in a martini either).

I kind of follow suit with RobP, I'll devour anything. EXCEPT (and I know this is UnAmerican/AntiChrist) Sweet Potatoes sick Them sumbitches make me hurl everytime. If one sneaks into my house, I thick slice it in the food processor and launch it out of my trap thrower, with my shotgun blazing.

I will admit that I have been known to float one or two of them baptized brussels in a bloody mary now and then, and I would have to say that they do get somewhat redeemed.
