How do you like the atlasworx BM? I've got one sitting in the safe.

I like it! I ran that beavertail VLS handle on my SS 223AI for a while and still think it to be a great varmint stock for the $$$.

Nice rig. How did you square it up? I couldn't do it just with a file.

Just wondering how you're going to squeeze those 107s thru that 223?

Nice - had a VLS long ago, chopped to 22", the BEST thing I ever did to that rifle, shot better as I recall when shorter and 3400 w/50 Bts over 2015BR.....handling improved 1,000%, and the VLS stocks always fit me like a glove, floated shot fine, shot many sub inch groups at 200 yds when on a 7/08 V I had chopped to 21"...

My old VLS was 14 ROT IIRC, is this one 12 or 9?

I got inspired so I did it too, whacked almost 2" off my .243 AI bbl, it now is a hair over 21" long.

Hopefully it shoots better than it did before because I wasn't too impressed.





As you can see the old crown left something to be desired so I ain't losing nothing.

I've cut'em off like that before and they shot great. Just gotta be careful and pay attention to details. Great looking rig. Nice project.

Where is that PG&T .22-204 reamer with the .060" freebore for 75 VLD's? I was wondering if you were hiding it, so you wouldn't need to explain why this rifle isn't a .223AI and that the .22-204 isn't the same as the .222 Rem Mag...


When I saw that aftermarket mag, I knew you were needing more length for the longer .22-204 round.

aalf's got a lathe in his garage, but I think he wanted to see how many would get the "hack" saw out and try it!

Dont matter to me my barrel cost me $35

It can be done with care and with good results. I think the lathe is a better way to go with less chance of messing up.

Thanks, I'm looking at the same setup for a sporter weight 223 truck gun: Rem 700 sporter in a McMillan Compact, AI mags, 18" barrel, etc., etc.

I might get flamed for this but i recrowned the muzzle of a .22 rifle using a lee handheld case trimmer.I had to chuck the pilot into my drill press and take a few thou off until i had a snug fit in the bore.Granted .22 barrel steel is soft but it did an excellent job and cut my groups in half. It cuts a recess crown.

I'm thinking that your barrel shortening was not all that successful and that a more precise crown is in order. Those targets don't look all that great. At least I would not be too excited about a .223 that produced that many groups above an inch.
