Here are some pics of a gorgeous brand new David Miller in .300 Weatherby. I'll let the owner chime in at his convenience, but let me just say that the day I splurge for a wood and blue bolt gun, well, this is at the top of my list (I'd like a different Roy, though ).

Here we go:

Whatcha all think? (there's no drooly smiley, is there?)

Rick
WOW!!!!!
Nice
Paul
That's a rifle anybody could be proud to own!!

Very nice..

Mike
Looks like a Marksmen in Walnut. Wonder if the non sucks shoots.

Chuck
Come on Lottery!!!
Very nice! I might have gone with a different color for the recoil pad!!
I'd want to wrap it in bubble wrap to hunt with it.
man, he can put the steel to the wood cant he?
nice, worth every penny
Rick,
That made (and ruined ) my day all at the same time! Simply stunning.

Huntr
Actually, I think it is Curt Crumm who does the wood
work? Dave does the metalsmithing.
Beautiful! Almost a perfect vision of my ideal rifle. The wood is stunning, the metal to wood fit is perfect, the checkering is flawless, the lines are so good. I wish I could have the talent to do things like that! Or at least the talent to earn enough money to buy it from someone who can. Wow
It is mine, and thanks for all the nice words. Thanks Rick for posting, as I waited 3 years to get this baby, and am quite proud of it. Curt does do the stockwork, and David does the metalwork. I took it to the range today, and she is shooting quite well. I am rusty,as I have not been shooting regular, but the rifle shoots great. It is a marksman with the classic stock. David does not make many of these, but I wanted something a little different so went this route. It was tough as David has about 100 blanks to look at, and I finally narrowed it down to two, and then my wife, and I chose this stock. I just received it last week, and am ready to go hunting. I thought you rifles nuts might enjoy seeing my second child:). It might just cost my first child her college education, but I doubt it.

Thanks all

LeeC
Take good care of her, LeeC. She's worth it!
purty, plumb purty. is that scope mount a miller creation? slick.
wow, nice camera work also, especially the close-ups.
That's more than a rifle, that's an heirloom! Very nice. I'd be proud to own it myself.

Steve
Nice,
Is this Bastogne walnut?
Also, I especially like the extractor.
Holy CRAP!!!! That is nice.

Gotta be the perfect rifle, only I'd opt for .280 Ackley. No matter; that is one of the most beautiful rifles I've ever seen.

Rick, great photos.

Steve
DZ,

Man, I'd be scared as crap to take it out of the safe and into the woods !!!

Way too nice to beat up.

Tony
LeeC,

Congratulations, that rifle is superb.

Can you provide the details on the scope mounts and the bottom metal?

thanks...jim
Lee:

Congrats on a fine example of fine American gunmaking. That rifle (including the pad color) is absolutely classic in every respect.

Take it hunting!!

The only truly fine rifle I have ever (or will ever) owned was a fairly similar Mauser in 7x57 stocked by Gary Goudy. I took it on a DIY mt. goat hunt in AK. and pretty much wrecked the stock. The rifle is gone now, but the memories and the satisfaction of that hunt will be with me forever. Use it!!

JimF
The scope mounts, are completely custom David Miller, and can only be bought with one of his rifles, I believe David has someone make the bottom metal to his spec's. I think Ted Blackburn, but I am not sure. If not, David can also make these himself if needed. Just about everything you see has been made, or reworked, by David or Curt. They leave no stone untouched. Thanks everyone for the nice comments, as I indeed am very proud of it, and it most certainly will be in the field this winter.I did not send a good picture of the top wood to metal fit, but you cannot get a hair between the action and stock. It is a perfect fit without ANY gaps whatsoever. It is a fine piece of craftsmanship.

Lee
Lee,
Wow about covers it. I'm mucho jealous on this end.

Very well done.
The only thing I might add would be a nice 4-panel checkered bolt knob...That Winny knob is a little plain compared to the rest of that eye candy

I keep coming back to drool a little more

Mike
The Classics have that 4 panel checkering.

Chuck
Beautiful rifle! Dave and Curt do great work.

I am one of those fortunate guys that knows the creators and call them my friends. We shoot together at the Pima Pistol Club. Dave and Curt are great guys. What few folks know is the details they get into to make their rifles extremely reliable.

I have been in their shop many times. Here are a few details of what they do: The grip cap is pulled in from inside by an elaborate captive nut and bolt arrangement. The two cocking contact pieces are heat treated to different hardnesses for better wear characteristics. They use their own trigger design. As already mentioned the scope base and ring package is of their own design. The CRF model 70 action was designed for Winchester by them. The only thing on their rifles that they don't make themselves is the action which they get in the white from Winchester. They put their serial numbers on them and after the necessary work are heat treated. Even the machine screws are made by them. Their floorplate latch is remarkable. The pieces are all made by hand. The DGR has a special tiny release pin near the floorplate release so it cannot possibly open while being used. The reinforcement crosspins for the stock are tapered in a way that prevents any wood movement. AND then there are the beautiful artistic touches we see from the outside.

If there is any doubt about the prices they get for their rifles, they are laid to rest when you see the details.

I hope you enjoy your rifle for many years to come.

Ross
Lee, congrats on a beautiful shooter. Ya gotta love it when builder and owner collaborate so well on a project like that. Best wishes for future trips into the hills.
Now that is one beautiful piece of "craftsmanship"
WOW! When your daughter graduates from Las Cruces,Mayfield or Onate High schools(Whichever one),She will be too smart anyway! Maybe you can give it to her for a graduation present? What kind of wood is it? How much does it weigh?
That rifle is nice, but it's really only useless junk. After all it doesn't even have iron sights.

but it's really only useless junk

??? ... Huh? I can't imagine a nicer hunting rig. All my Weatherby's are walnut and blue steel and I wouldn't call any of them junk!!!
Avagadro,

Sorry my sarcasm doesn't always show through. LeeC has a magnificent rifle.
I see .... I was actually thinking you were being humorous, but didn't see any smilelys and your post was edited.

I wonder if the owner will shed a tear or two the first time the rifle gets dinged up?? ...
Bart, the last person you worked for was an awful influence.

Chuck
No tears here. A rifle is to be used. Anyone that knows me knows that I won't hesitate to pull it out and take it hunting. I have a marksman that has been all over the world, and has its shares of dings. They are all shown with pride, as I know which hunt put the dings where they are. I take really good care of them, but stuff is going to happen if you hunt enough..

Lee
Lee, I have a question regarding that rifle. Apparently because of copyright or something similar, Miller had to change the spelling of Marksman to Marksmen? Silly question, but I'm curious.

Chuck
That is right I think Beeman BB guns had the rights to the name, and made him change it. My first custom was one of the few with the name marksman, my second is marksmen.
Ditto Hicountry! I wouldn't be able to whack any critters withit as I would be scared I would ding her all up. Hell I think I might buy a safe just for this pretty girl. Enjoy her. Don't forget to pull her out each night to admire her.
I have 2 Fort knox safes, the 52 guns safes that can only be picked up by a forklift, and believe me when I tell you it went straight into the safe, and I sleep well at night..

Lee
Personaly I like the color of the pad. Well that definately was worth the wait! To enjoy that gun by using it is a great idea-it would be a shame not to.
Thank you for posting the pictures.
Glenn
Lee,
Greetings, good to see you are still ticking. The rifle still looks great. Have you knocked anything down with it yet?

Chic Worthing
I still lurk, just do not post much. I just received the rifle about 2 weeks ago so have not blooded it yet, but antelope season is just around the corner. Nice to hear from you.

Lee
AWWWWWWSSSSOOOOOMMMMEEEEEEEEE!!!!!
Holy smokes, that's a fine rifle!
That is one "AWESOME" piece of wood. Jealous here...enjoy!
Looks awesome!

Is that a slight drop down magazine? Which manufacturer? How many cartridges does she hold?

Thanks!
CL
I am so glad it belongs to a hunter rather than a collector only type of guy. I would love to see a post with it along side some game!
John
Why so much priase for a David Miller rifle and so little for D'Arcy Echols and the other greats like Gene Simillion, Mark Penrod, Biesen, Wiebe etc.?
Okay, I'm going to step over the line and critique Mr. Miller's rifle.

His scope mounts are an abortion, that one piece steel unit reminds me of the bay bridge. Its too heavy with excess metal left on and one could use it as a suitcase handle.

[Linked Image]

Thats for starters, flame suit is on with extra kevlar in place. I also have my super duper anti- whammy hat on too!

For the jingle associated,I think a Custom action of high tolerance/concentricity,that boasts integral bases,is a better way to fly.

I'd want an integral 1913 rail and 20MOA built in,would humor me.............................
LeeC,

She is a beauty for sure.....hope it shoots as good as it looks............

Tony
Big Sick,
Thats because you think of your rifles as tools. Not works of art.I could not bring myself to hunt with that thing.
It is a great looking piece.
dave
Dave would you let Jennifer Aniston sit in a corner or ride her
hard and put her away wet?

I'd use the rifle like any other.
A rifle that don't Hunt,is a Play Purty.

That has zero appeal to me......................
Now THAT is my idea of a high end custom rifle.... great metal work combined with worldclass stock work! That wood is UNREAL , and I have a thing for flutes (Just make mine a 280AI on a Rem 700) !!!!

The first scratch is going to hurt on that beauty!

Thanks for sharing, possibly the nicest rifle I've ever seen on this site (interesting looking mounts though.... but bet they're strong!).

280_ACKLEY
"The first scratch is going to hurt on that beauty!"
You got that right.
I would not know how to act around a wood stocked rifle.I dont even have one these days.Somehow I just cant see myself parting brush with something that pretty.

You don't still hunt much do you?
David makes a great rifle. I have had the priviledge to shoot several of his rifles. Two well target practicing with him out in the desert. If I can ever afford a custom, his are high on my list.
my friend has one and well what can I say. Beautiful rifle.

LeeC, Congrats on a prize. it is a beautiful rifle and shoot shoot fabulous. Have fun with it and shoot as much as you can with it. Don't worry about hurting it either.
If it has not been asked. What wood/finish did you get your gun in?
What load are you using in it?
