what would be your dream model..mine would be an F saddle ring-carbine, Monarch or Rival 38-55, someone probably has one and is going to make me sick.
Serial number 10.001.....
or a like new Savage 1920 pair in 250/3000 and 300 that would be consecutively serial numbered with Lyman sights.
You did say wish right?

Same thing Ken but add early production - with a barrel band
These are mythological creatures - very similar to Bigfoot. I have heard of credible sightings. And a sighting I heard of was in a Winchester caliber - I believe .32/40 IIRC.
Other ironies: the catalogs say they exist and if you letter a M1899F with JTC he will say in the letter that early ones (I believe he specifies prior to 1905) have the small barrel band
A 99 scaled down to the 223 cartridge , mini-99. That would make a great walkabout rifle.
Mike

He says that because the catalogs and Murray's say they did. For all I've known, though, he has seen a couple. We know they sure weren't around for 5 years.

Rory - I've seen a lot of 1899F's and never seen one with the small barrel band. The running joke I've had with myself when one is shown to me, and the person also proudly displays their letter of authenticity - I respond, "too bad it doesn't letter - I suppose I could be interested in it as a shooter..."
A
new 24" barrel 30-30 in EG!
Wish correct.
Steve
Loggah's rifle...
99s,99s,99s! I'd like a mint 219 with factory D&T for scope blocks for my sad old eyes. Any caliber as long as it's .25-20 WCF or .22 Hornet.

My first swiss cheese 300EG was my first dream 99...then I kept dreaming of the next perfect 99.., and the next, and the next.. Hard to imagine the one that will make me say, "Ok, enough"

Nope.............heck yeah!!!! I could live with that.

This does make for an interesting question - what is the highest grade M1899F we are aware of?
1895 carbine
1895 carbine
At least you get the small barrel band
I thought about the 1895, but didn't know if they were made in carbine or saddle gun.
Fug has a pretty nice 1899F that has high grade engraving,or maybe he has a few i dont remember ,maybe he'll chime in!
I thought about the 1895, but didn't know if they were made in carbine or saddle gun.
Of course they made a carbine. With the small barrel band!
And a ring
You're not going to get a .38/55 or a .32/40 in the '95 Carbine however (:
Ok, on the topic of '95 carbines I have the vague recollection there was at least one made?
SRC's? More than 1.
Or are you talking a short barreled special order non-SRC?
Rory - I am talking about a SRC.
And what I am referring to is an engraved SRC. Seems to me more than 30 1895 SRC's were made?
Thirty? I'm not greedy - I only want one!
Now that I think about it, maybe there were more like 200 1895 SRC's made? I'm sure someone will jump in shortly on this. So, olgrouser, you just might be able to have more than one!
The photos in the early 1899 catalogs picture what is obviously 1895's with long cheek pieces, reverse curve forearms, 1895 buttstocks and the SRC has a barrel band. The 1895 SRC has a 22" barrel and the 1899 is 20". In the pictures in the early 1899 catalogs (1900 and 1903) the SRC (BB) barrels look longer than than the SRC barrels (non BB) pictured in the 1905 and later catalogs. If anyone has an 1899 barrel band carbine I'd like to know about to include it in my book. Thanks, David
David, we do think that the earliest 1899-F's might actually have been reworked 1895's. Two examples have turned up that lettered as 1895 SRC made during the 1895 production run but not shipped till 1899. Both have a 20" barrel and 1899 bolt. They have the barrel band and might account for the drawing (not photo)in the 1899 catalog.
You can check with BillR for more details.
Fugs SRC in 30-30 oh yeah its engraved too! I did get to shoot it tho!
The factory drilled and tapped .308EG, the .358F, and the 1920 .250-3000 I hesitated on and lost over the last 20-years!
If I were to wish up a new configuration, then I think a scaled down 99, much like the one in Murrey's book, chambered in .44 mag or .45 Colt would be cool.

John - I think I remember seeing a picture of that
Put me in for a 284 cut checkered DL with the box and paperwork
Obviously something special order would be cool . . . but straight factory, I'll take a 300 barrel band.
My wish rifle is out there, just have to find it.
1899F Saddle Ring Carbine. Doesn't matter cal. Not mint, but original with a good bore.
A 99A in 250 and 300, that both shoot clover leafs.
Thanks Rick, any photos available? David
I am lucky Dawg! That 99T from Steve aka 1899 Sav is as good as she gets in my book! Like they say in the Shark Tank I'm out! For how long has yet to be seen!
I would just like to have the 99F .250 in 95% condition that I passed on 10 years ago for $550 because I knew nothing about 99's at the time.

Nice on,Ed. That one make me sqweel too.
I wished big early on....and it pd off in spades.
Top is 38-55 w/fancy wood and nickel trimmings 1/2 rd bbl.
Bottom is factory cut-away from Roe Clark. Gone now....but not forgotten.
Never thought to wish for this...but it found it's way to my door. One is in 250 the other in 300....Identical serial numbers. Both F's.
I wished my donkey off til this one got home...
Both had 23" factory bbls.
You can see what Roe believed was Enoch Tue's initials (ET) in the first picture...on the slanted flat to the right of the loading gate.

Never get tired of seeing those other pictures Jed
You think the gov't would pick up on that? LOL!
I bought these before nics kicked in.
Those mindless bots would never catch it.
Hell! It was in my house for a few days before I entered it in my book...and got very confused when I went to enter the 2nd serial number in....and then discovered the mystery.
oops/almost forgot this one. Crispy new 1899 250-3000 Savage Rifle (transitional) Had the striated trigger...noy cross checkered.

Not an F, but will this do?
Here
That cat reminds me of my Hairy, aka Fatso. Would live in the gunsafe if I let him. I won't. If I had an 8" naval rifle, I could use him for a bore mop.
An 1895 in mint condition, with an octagon barrel, in 303. It would look like Loggah's rifle in the photo.

great
I spoke of this before but,I found myself an 1899 in 25 35 a few years ago. It had some funny little screws close together on the receiver, and a 24' barrel. When I got my letter back I found this gun started life as a 1899f in 32 40 made in 1903. The letter states it would have had a barrel band which was omitted after 1905. If I had not waited 95 years to buy this gun I would be braggin' not wonderin'! All numbers match so I assume someone sent it to Savage to be rebarreled, who knows now.
