I like this one..
The little one looks like
a good upland bird knife.
The last one looks kind of radical but I'm sure it would do it's job. Just doesn't look like what we are used to seeing around here.
Let me know what you think, I'm a big boy I can take it.
Top one is pretty cool. I might like it better without the mirror finish. Maybe a bead blast or stonewash.
Combo pack I like. Some fancier wood and I'd like it even more.
Snakeskin one is very cool--- looks and pattern. I dig it.
Last knife I wouldn't have much use for.
All the sheaths look good to me. Snakeskin one looks better than good.
Overall, very nice looking work IMO.........
Thanks for all the feed back. I appreciate your comments. FYI the snake knife is actually stabalized corn cob, the sheath is prarie rattler by Parsons. The bottom knife is kind of an EDC knife with kydex and a teck lock. I wear mine horizonzl on my waist and when you need a knife in a hurry its right there. Most of my knives are D2 treated by Paul Bos and ground on a 12" wheel.
Stabilized corn cob? No kidding. I was going to ask what it was. I really like the pattern of that one........
I like the combo pack, what does something like that run with orange G-10 or micarta?
Like this one?
If you will bear with me, I and new to forums period. If you will PM me, we can discuss arangements.
Actually I am a little disapointed in the durability of the corn cob. I am used to anything stabalized being hard and durable. I would not recomend this knife for hard use, which i hate. My first priority in building a knive is to have a finnish product that can take some abuse in the feild.
The lines of the "corn cob" knife are very nice. That is my favorite by far.

Yup, pretty much.
Nice work!
I'd like that small knife (last pictured) with black micarta scales - to match my Ruger Vaquero's Birdshead grips.
Also with a simple black leather sheath with logo:
~ Slaughterville!
Slaughterville is a small comunity where I grew up and still own the family farm there. Its about 15 miles south of Norman Oklahoma. There are many tall tales of how it got its name, but the boring truth is, in the mid 1800's Jim Slaughter open the first general store in the area. And my wife thought it made a really cool brand for knives. Here is a couple more to check out.
Admirable work! Do you have a website I can visit?
Thanks.
Working on a website, maybe 2-3 weeks if all goes well

And that answers my next question, durability of it.
The pattern of that knife is still great though, IMO.....
Jantz supply is doing their own stabilization on corn cob at their shop. Once I started working down I realized it was not what I had hoped, but it looks really different, hate to tear it off. I thought if you stablized a sponge it would be hard as a rock and take a good shine, Maybe its a different process. If anyone else has any experience with this let me know.
Late to post but Wow these are nice . Nice work Dale
Well I know this post ain't much without pics. , I will soon. A skinner just in here from Dale Atkerson , I'm very impressed. Over the top fit & it is a work tank, melt in your hand with a KILLER razor grind. Awesome!!
here's a few more
I know some of you don't like dyamondwood. But it is very hard and inpenatrable to blood and water and it shines up nice.
Mark and his guide in an Idaho bear hunt.
This is some that I finished before the Wanenmacher show and didn't have time to post before I left. Something a little different.
Rick, are you giving photography lessons next week???
Looking good Dale, love the kydex, too
I saw Dale's work first hand at Tulsa this weekend... Top notch!
Really nice, but don'tcha ever wash your damned hands.
That is a real sweet lookin' knife...!

And where the hell is a "fancy restaurant" when you live in Podunk hillbilly Purcell, Oklahoma...?
...Libby's in Goldsby...?
they have hell tryin' to sweep dirt floors
Tell me about the second one from the top, the little drop point.
TACO BELL by god !!!!
Second 5/32 D2 green macarta. My personal favorite field knife.
Boy you have lowered your standards.
I would think El Charro at the very least
Don't have one here. Taco Bell is pushing it on knive maker wages.
Great looking blades.
personally I love a knife with a mirror finish and I can appreciate the amount of elbow grease that goes into getting one to shine like yours do thanks for sharing.
TACO BELL by god !!!!
Second 5/32 D2 green macarta. My personal favorite field knife.
After we get the boning knife done I want one of those with orange scales. 5/32 D2 would be pretty fun to use with that shape.
My field knives are all pretty close to that size and shape. They do all the gutting, skinning and quartering.
Same heat treat/temper as the big one you made for me?

Same heattreatment. This shape is one I designed for myself. I have seen others that are close but not the same.
With this knife and a little practice, you can go butt hole to chin in one smooth pass. It has a good radius for skinning and enough heft to rip through the sternum. Edge retention is excellent.
Same heat treat/temper as the big one you made for me?
Dale ,is the knife you last posted ,in the "dirty hand" shot,is that the same model as the Orange one on my site here ? :
http://www.vcmcustomknives.com/orange-g-10-skinner--kydex.html
Pretty much just not as deep of finger groove.
Does any of you guys work for a livin.
I like that knife. Very Nice Work. What's the wood? There's a ton of spalting in that.
Spalted Tamarid. When I got ahold of that block of wood I couldn't sit still until I got it in a knife. I know I'm not good at pitchers, and this picture does not do it justice.
would love a folder with that wood.--cranky72
would love a folder with that wood.--cranky72
The drop.off.might make a small folder. Want me to drop it off at Ricks and put in the order for you?? HEHE
thenks dale but it might hurt rick's feelings if i asked for something out of shop. cranky72
nice Dale but I like that little canvas skinner with the dirty hand pic. best one yet. Neat knife !!
ENOUGH OF THE DIRTY HAND CRAP ALLREADY..... thanks
Didn't mean nuthin' by it
Dale if you weren't so introverted and shy , you might get a little more attention.
Hey when I loose my sense of humor, SHOOT ME. Just sumpin to give a little chit over.
You win. Dale Howe, shut up!!!
Dale if you weren't so introverted and shy , you might get a little more attention.
HEY, some people are just late bloomers. Just wait till I really get warmed up.
Hey man, how was the gun show this past weekend in Podunk hillbilly Purcell...?
Sell any knives...?
Get any good sch!t...?
Yup sold a couple. But had to put the money back in for supplies. There was a few guns that had me about to piss myself, but somehow I was able to hold it together and left them alone. It was a good little show. Would have luvd it if you could have made it down.
Looks like you two been holdin' hands again...
Howe you about made me spit my drink all over my key board.
Looks like you two been holdin' hands again...
An Okie and a Yankee, Its been a hostel affair.

I was coming from striper fishing late and saw the gun show sighn. I remeber you saying something about that show. Wish I would have remembered.
The drop looks to be a great pattern.
finished this one up 1/8" D2, 7 1/2 OAL 3 3/8" edge. Handle is black ash burl. Headed for Mr Parsons soon.
Dale that looks superb ! Very nice man!!
That is a pretty son of a gun. I like the pattern.
I really love that pattern...! And those 3 pins lined up like that look real good.
It feels good in your hand. I got to coon finger it the other day.
looks good Dale can't wait to see it in person.
I have 3 real nice hunters listed on my site from Dale. Deep hollow razor ground blades. His handle work is awesome, the knives nest in your hand secure ! Good Stuff
Finished this one up. 1/8" D2,pushed the 12" hollow grind to the limit. Ghost Jade G10, not sure what IO think of it yet. Handy little knife though.
This one is the Zombie Apocolipce knife, It is the only knife know to man that will kill a Zombie. 5/32" D2.
It is the only knife know to man that will kill a Zombie. 5/32" D2.
Hope nobody took me serious on that crap!!!
They look real good Dale I like the Zombie knife & think everyone needs one . But to be truthful,I might want my zombie knife bigger.
Been learning to taper tangs with a little instruction from Rick. Here is one that turned out good. I wanted to see how thin I could go but chickened out at .020
Plenty thin & looking good Dale
dale the 1st one is a real handy looking knife. good job on that tapered tang--dammed hard to get it that thin w/o blowing thru. cranky72
Just remember Dale that when you put liners and scales on that tapered tang it will appear twice as thick as it looked bare. Rick shoots for the optimum.
Ricks .005 tangs.are amazing. You have to squint to see if there os metal in there.
Just remember Dale that when you put liners and scales on that tapered tang it will appear twice as thick as it looked bare. Rick shoots for the optimum.
I dunno Mike, although I realize I have a biased opinion, it still looks pretty thin to me. Not Menefee thin. The only other person I personally knew that tapered that thin was
George Englebtretzen.
great job on the taper. Trick is getting to where you can do it as fast as Rick does. I swear he can taper a tang in about 3 minutes. Just flat pisses me off, but he's also got the only turbo charged grinder I've ever seen. That sucker raises the temperature in the room 5 degrees when he turns it on.
have you ever heard him snore while tapering a tang??
That tang looks real nice, and that natural canvas micarta with those yellow liners is not commonly seen and it looks exceptionally well...! Great combination of materials and workmanship.
Tired of the hassles of etching, so I got a stamp. This one is not as deep as I would have liked, but still like it better than the etch. I'm building a larger press that should do the trick.
I like your new stamp. Looks good. Rick says those real knife guys (collectors) really go for the stamps more so over etchings.
Well there were two reasons for the stamp. I got tired of etching with the set up the chemicals and the clean up. And I wanted a better look to the finished product. I know I have a high quality knife with an excellent steel proper heat treat. But showing knives on here up against Menefee Miller Dowell Ingram and some of the others I need all the help I can get. I hope to someday be in that caliber of makers.
dale i think that is a real nice taper;trying to get a perfect super thin tang simply means at first you are going to blow thru lots of knives.having watched menefee do this process i realized it has a lot of expearance behind it. cranky72
For sure amd he makes look so damn easy.
How do you grade the steel? What is the lowest quality and what is the highest and where do your knives fall into this mix? Oggie
Yep, me too. Whomever said "real knife guys like the stamps over the etches" was 10000000% correct........
How do you grade the steel? What is the lowest quality and what is the highest and where do your knives fall into this mix? Oggie
I like everyone else have an azzhole and an opinion. the trick is to share your opinion without being an azzhole. There are many fantastic knife steels out there. Asking a group of knife makers witch steel is best is probably like ask the hunters sitting around the campfire which caliber kills deer better. I personally got hooked on D2 years ago. Its seems to be a work horse that is reasonable to grind, reasonable to sharpen and holds an edge very well. IMHO D2 is the perfect compromise between carbon and stainless having the best qualities of both. But for the kitchen I like 154 and yes 440c, for the higher stain resistance. As far as grading steel, I wouldn't know where to begin. There are a lot of steels I have never tried, and never will. i believe the perfect steel is when the right steel is matched with the right grind, the right heat treatment and matched to the use for witch it is intended. Where do my knives fit in?? I know I build a quality knife that holds an edge very well, My grinds and finishes are improving. To this date I have never had an unhappy customer, that I know of. My knives may not be right for everyone, but for what I build knives for---they'll get the job done.
This is my testament for D2. I built this knife for myself July 2012 as an EDC. Knowing that this knife was going to be horrifically abused, I left the grind a little thick, and did chisel tanto point. I do commercial air conditioning, so this knife has done things that would curl your toes, intentionally testing its limits. Yes its been duller than a pole ax. and had small chips in the blade, but like I said it has been pushed beyond extreme use. I have been quite satisfied with its performance. Here are photos of new and current.
Perhaps a little off topic, but I noticed your EDC and that you said you do AC work.
Between 2000 and 2008, before I came to my senses I had 85 manufactured homes that I did all the maintenance on. So that's 85 A/C units, (combination split and package), 170 toilets, 85 hot water heaters (combination of gas and electric)........ well perhaps you get the picture. These were located in 5 different trailer parks. Sometimes in the summer I would drive 250 miles a day and service 5 different a/c units among the other emergencies that sprang up while I was there fixing a unit. I can't tell you how many times a day I use a knife.
This Boker top lock has been my daily carry since 2003.
It is a full auto Boker.
Seems I'm usually in a nine-line bind when I need a knife, and two hand open is not an option.
It fills the hand perfectly
I bet it's opened well over 2000 bottles of Negra Modelo.
Misplaced for about a month during deer season last year. Felt like I'd lost a body part.
Best,
GWB
I like the stamp and agree with you, the stamp seems a much better option then etching. I am about to order one for myself and have a couple of questions...
1) where did you buy it from
2) how long did it take to get
3) would you order again from them
Thanks,
41Gunner
Evers Stamp. When I ordered mine they had a bad snow storm andmissed about 4 days in the shop and it took about 4 weeks they said 3 when ordered
Yes I would not hesitate to order from them again. I'll gp ahead and answer the next question. $175.00
Thanks for the reply....Evers was top on my list to call about ordering a stamp.
41Gunner
I seem to have a lot of luck with this set up. Black and toxic green G10 and the textured finish.
Very cool G-10,love that blade profile its really nice, good job, you should make a bottle opener on the butt of that knife for Geedubya before he cuts himself, lol.
This is a handy little skinner.
That is a super cool looking skinner, maybe a dumb question but is there a purpose for that notch at back of blade, just asking? And what are dimensions of handle/ blade, thanks.

7 7/8 OAL 3 1/4 edge 5/32 D2 Deep hollow grind 12" wheel.
The notch has sorta evolved. It started out as a small nick, until one day I got a little carried away. I finished the knife with the black and toxic green and Kydex sheath. I was showing it to a survival type feller, and he said the notch looked like it would fit a feral rod (fire starter). First pull it pull such a large spark it set the carpet on fire. So there it is.
"First pull it pull such a large spark it set the carpet on fire." Gotta love it when a plan comes together!
I seem to have a lot of luck with this set up. Black and toxic green G10 and the textured finish.
Those are great blade profiles. Do you do stabilized wood scales?
Its in my future plans but its Dale Howe aka mntmn1. I'm the good lookin one
Had Dale Howe stabalize some for.me it was first rate. Will be showin some in a week or so.
I like wood or antler scales and real leather. Lookin foreward to seeing them.
Wow. LIKE LIKE LIKE Indeed, we appreciate what we have a lot more after seeing what it takes to make one.
Here's a little B&T I just finished up with a little bit of a bowie attitude. 6 1/2 " OAL of 1/8 D2.
Still think this is a kick-a$$ design. Think of this design with some of those neon green G-10 scales and thick black liners...or with natural canvas micarta scales and thick yellow liners.
Dayum...!
Well Danny, I have one with black and toxic green glued up and 1with yellowish makarta and yellow liners ready to vlue up and one with the yellowish makarta and black liners teady to glue up. All with tapered tangs in that same pattern. One not decided on the scales yet. And 4 others of a different pattern I havent scaled yet. I'm always open to suggestions. Trying to get ready ffor the Wannamaker show. Menefee has been nudging me to do more tapered tangs. Monday night I set my mind to it and tapered 9tangs and didnt even have to toss one. (Sigh of relief).
You're too kind...!
I hope you sell a schitpot of knives at Wannamaker's.
Dale that is really cool take on a B&T! I have not seen a pattern like that.
Randy
Sometimes I just make chit up as I go.
Sometimes I just make chit up as I go.
Too funny Dale Looking great though
Sometimes I have to fix an OH CHIT, but if it turns out good, I'm not tellin.
Well,Atkerson just in>>>>
Dale sent this D2 knife today,I saw a picture of this and liked it. It has the Parsons pocket clip sheath witch is in itself a heavy duty tool. But Dale I gotta say,you have a very impressive ,unique design here. This knife is somewhere in between small& regular, but the handle allows for a really good grip. This would make a nice hunter/ skinner ,but also,a heavy duty compact EDC work knife. OAL on this is 6-3/8". Blade is 3" with 2-3/4" cutting edge. If you guys could sample this I think Dale would have more orders for this one knife than he could ever keepup with. Freakin wicked razor sharp, and his grind is perfect. Very nice one Dale, ThankYou. I think too,the sculpted g-10 handles you do would really be great on this model.
Sun glare will get you every time ,taking knife pics but these will work
Still think this is a kick-a$$ design. Think of this design with some of those neon green G-10 scales and thick black liners...or with natural canvas micarta scales and thick yellow liners.
Dayum...!
Is that some of the stabilized buckeye?
I picked that up on one of my trips to Jantz, it was on the reminant table. They couldn't say what it was other than it didn't match anything they had. looked to cool to leave there.
If I was going to guess, I think I might lean toward black ash burl.
right now I am working on a piece of the redwood burl you stabilized for me and it is going to kick some azz and take names. I think the name it might pick would be Antlers. I gotta figure some way to get in his back pocket. LOL
laughin', been waiting to see some of that stuff finished out.
For some reason I've got that macarta that I picked up for us in my head. I really like the yellowish color like on Vince's knife.
But I do have the redwood burl and a bocote in the works. Trying to get ahead for the Wannamaker show in Tulsa next week end. Did really well last fall.
I'm looking forward to the two knife guy at Wannamakers.
A 4 blade slip joint would be killer
Redwood Burl that Dale Howe stabilized for me, and some Bocote I found that I've had for about 15 years.
From the look of things you should do well. Really like the looks of that rosewood.
Redwood????? Can't you keep your woodies straight????
Dale,tThis is off of the big block off redwood burl you stabilized for me. Really impressed with the penetration and the finish that it took. Great job.
wow, fantastic. Said Rosewood before, but meant redwood. Beautiful stuff. That came out really great. Great looking knife too. Is that D2? suspect that won't be on the table long at the show...
Yes D2 is there any other kind? (waiting for the fight)
laughin' nothing wrong with D2.
(That a little 154 won't fix).
Where is the "Like" button mtnman1
That looks like some nice stuff.
Dale,tThis is off of the big block off redwood burl you stabilized for me. Really impressed with the penetration and the finish that it took. Great job.
I've never seen anyone get a nicer finish on D2 that Dale does. That is some hard stuff to get a slick finish on and he finishes it out better that any I've seen.
Dale nice spread so far. I like your knives, especially your handle styling with the ricasso as a "guard" ,very functional design
Thanks guys. Vince, you need to go buy a plane ticket and fly down for the Wannamaker show. They run.a.shuttle from the show.to the airport all day. I can even hook you up.with a room Saturday nite.
Made it to the Wanenmacker show, got to chat with some friends and look around a bit. Got to meet a campfire member for the first time (Badley)said he was good friends with the Menefee clan, but I won't hold that against him. Sold a knife before I finished un packing, feels like its going to be a good show. Never fails to amaze me at the size of this show.
Good luck pard. Hope you and Mike sell out.
Dale
Had a helluva good.time at the Wanenmacher show. Started out slow Saturday and Sunday morning, but after noon it went very well. Sold 5 knives in the last hour. Being too hardheaded to pack up early paid off. People really do come fom all over the world. I jave knives going three other states and 1going to the land down under.
always good to see a campfire guy do well. cranky72
Glad to hear ya had a good show. Wish I coulda made it up.
Glad to hear ya had a good show. Wish I coulda made it up.

If any central Okies get a chance to come out, I will be a at the Chickasha gun show

Nice Dale. Take the flash off and go outside in the shade, for knife pics
Forgot to take rhe pics at home. I was at work and on the way to the post office and had to shootem with my phone. Some day I'll break down and buy a good camera and go get Rick to show me how to use it.

Anyone going to Wannenmacher show?

Dale, i forgot, how much was this set as pictured?
Looks like you'll need to rent a trailer to haul 'em all. Hope you have a great show.
Looks Great Dale I hope you sell out !!
Where are you set up at? I think I'm gonna make it this year.
Row 8 section C table 4. I would love the opportunity to meet.
I'm liking a lot of those, but the one on the bottom right in this pic really caught my eye!
Having a great time at the show. Meeting new people, some other makers I've wanted to meet and learning a little as we go. And as a bonus selling a few knives. This is an awesome show.
Maybe Im a little nuts, but I let myself get talked into setting up at a black friday craft show. What the hell, better than fighrin the crowds shoppin. Cleveland county.fair grounds, Norman Oklahoma. Maybe the wives will be out shopping for their man. Come give me a shout if your in the area.
Dale she's gonna love that & it looks amazing . Beautiful job man. Merry Christmas to you & yours
Oh yeah, that's awesome, especially the layered liners.
What a fantastic looking boner, those double liners do it for me, beautiful job!
Looks great. Did you find what you needed?
Finish work looks nice also.
Glad I could help a little bit. Merry Christmas Pard. Knife looks amazing. Love that pattern.
I like that bubble gum pink. I know she will like it too.
Thanks guys, for the help and the compliments. Not sure what was most nerve wrecking, building for my biggest fan or trying to do justice to one of Ricks patterns.
Looks great. Did you find what you needed?
Needed a few other things too. Wound up making a hot shot run to Jantz.
The "M.E.Miller" Bowie from the Wannamakers show was a big hit here tonight when the grandson unwrapped it. I thought the Miller and Johnson grandsons were going to fight over it. Well done Dale.
Love it when a plan comes together
That bone looks fantastic, very nice overall knife fhat will make someone very happy.
These 2 will be on display and for sale at the Backwoods Hunting and Fishing show. in Oklahoma City 2/27 thru 3/1. Its a large show with guides, outfitters and taxidermist from all over the world.
Outstanding in every respect.
You outdid yourself on those two.
Best,
GWB
Those look like some killer sheaths

Yep, I second that Dale. Nice !!!!
Finnished a couple more. D2 and G10
154 cm and stabilized spalted tamarid.
154 cm and black ash burl.
Orange G10 and carbon fiber over 154 cm. This is my modified version of the Reno. Thanks again to RBM for sharing a pattern.
Been a little out of pocket the last couple of months, but tring to get back in the saddle. Kinda missed BS'n with you guys.
very-very nice dale'congrats. cranky72
Just made MY first post in the classifieds.
Well that cherry is popped!
Ronnie
Happened to be wanderin' around in Oklahoma a few weeks back.
Had the opportunity to hook up with Dale A.
Seems Dale always has a few of his knives with him. Being the slut I am I could not resist.
Brought this one back to Tejas with me.
Just spent a good part of a week bustin' bunnies, decimating doves and perforating porkers.
Got a pretty decent boar...
so I figured what the hey', I'd give it a try
Olive Drab Canvas Micarta, D2 steel, (a fave), mustard liners, hollow grind, a tapered tang,
plus handle and blade design that really grows on a fellow.
It's a pleasure to use a sharp knife.
as it makes short work of chores........
and lets a fellow get back to what he does best....
JAPPFT,
GWB
Nice knife, nice pictures,
thanks for sharing
Nice going Dale. GWB does a great job of sharing his well thought out picture doccumentary. Hats off to you both.
Love to see them put to use.
A little late in posting these. Got them over a month ago, going to give them for Christmas gifts.

I met Dale this weekend at a show in OKC. Great guy and a great knife maker. I told him I'd bump his thread back to the top, and it deserves to be there. Check these things out if your so inclined, you won't be sorry.
He was to be at the Backwoods show at the fairgrounds. He is to be at the KGA show at the H&H facility next weekend!
Yeah, I ran through the Backwoods show to see some friends and bumped into him at his table. He's got some great looking knives ready to roll if anyone needs (or wants) one.
Hi Guys did you miss me. My world has kinda been standing on its head for a while. But hopefully things are going to get back to normal.
I have a cup;e of knives that have been abandoned by the the person who ordered them and one that is just something I did for fun. posting them up in the classifieds a little later.
Check em out.
Glad your back on track. Life is always interesting
Looking forward to seeing them.
