I have had this rifle since the early 80's or late 70's . This is the Model 1894 44 magnum with 1/2 Magazine and was only made for one year in 1973. I haven't had it out in a few years and decided it was time to hunt with it this year. I took off the factory sights today and replaced with a Skinner Peep and Marlin .500 height Gold bead sight which comes on the 1895 Cowboy. Skinner calls for a .460 height replacement with this sight, but after fitting to the dovetail it will be close, plus i fitted the dovetail with a filler blank just for looks. I will use the Hornady 240 gr HP with H110 as my hunting load. I also replaced the factory plastic butt plate with a rubber one , mostly because my cousin borrowed the rifle and fell with it and busted the toe off the stock and didn't pick up the broken piece which i could have repaired if he had done so. This will be one of my tree stand rifles in the Pines on my VA Farm.

Nice. I really like the looks and balance of those half mag levers. Wish my 1894 .44 were such
Those Skinner sights are an excellent addition. I put them on my "94 last year. I am considering them for my 10/22.
have them on my Winchester 94-22 also
Nice rig. I would like to have one like that. They are far and few between.
I loaded up 70 rounds with 24 gr of H110 , Hornady 240 gr XTP's , Rem Brass and CCI350 Primers. Will sight in after the rain moves out.
That's a beauty, bea. I love those old Marlin 94's, and especially in .44 mag. Been trying to buy one particular example off a friend of mine for years.
The 1894 is the best of the Marlin Lever Guns other than the Model 39 22
Beautiful gun!! I'll bet that is one fun gun to shoot!
Thats a nice looking rifle you have there
I have an older marlin 94 in 32-20, just put one of the Skinner hepburn peeps one it, still have to shoot it tho!
I loaded some 240 gr HP the other day with 24 gr of 296 ,they seem to do the job just fine hoping to use them on a nice 9 pointer I have been watching at camp in VT this season ,two years ago I took a 7 pointer with my old 35 rem nothing like a Good lever gun
I put Skinner sights on my 1894 in 44 mag and I love'em. I just can't see buckhorn sights well anymore. The 1894 is a blast to shoot. I shoot it more than my bolt rifles now.
Bob,

As you know the 1894 "Sporter" model is a rare rifle in .44

I have only seen a few..all of them in pictures.

nice smile..........

oh yea.....nice Marlin too.......
She smiles all the time.
Must be insane.
Or she found the wine I just bought.

She still reminds me of my selling the 39A..........kinda pissed her off.

Smiles and calls me A hole.
Bought that as my going away present when I got fired/laid off. Didn't see any deer big enough to shoot, decided my dad's .44 fingergroove Ruger I liked better.

So I sold the 1894.

Which p*ssed off the ol' lady again (hell, she never shot it).

Only lever gun we have now is a Savage 99 and she warned me not to sell it.
I might buy a 39M for her, to shut her up.
They pass through my LGS now and then.
Never saw a half mag lever .44 Marlin.
That IMHO looks better than a full mag.
Very cool.
