I'm betting if Browning would do the above they would have a real winner....I think it's one of the neatest Winchester levers ever made....

Anyone here with connections to Browning? lol....
44-40 is such a pain to reload compared to 45 Colt and if a "modern" 92 could handle 44 magnum and 454 casull so could a modern 53.
Agree, make it a 44 mag or 45 colt and it would be a seller moreso than a 44-40.
I guess nostalgia is not a consideration anymore?

Not with the inherently weak brass of the 44-40 as a consideration for the reloader.
If you're after nostalgia, reintroduce the model 53 in a .218 Bee. Afterall, that's the model the catridge made it's debut in.
Close but no cigar...the Bee was introduced in the M65.....
Gee, I never had any issues handloading for the .44/40....the case was not meant to be hotrodded and behaves quite nicely when it's loaded with that in mind....
Seems to me I was reading that the necks had a tendency to fold if everything was not just right. But they are an interesting cartridge.
Mike Venturino had an article in Rifle or Handloader awhile back that explains how to avoid crunching necks...very worthwhile read for anyone interested in loading for the .44 WCF....

Exactly. I load 44-40 for my S&W model 544 "Texas Wagon Train" and it is maddening to load for compared to reloading .44 Specials (or mags). Have to be too careful with the 44-40 brass, AND you have to lube them (no carbide dies available).
No flies on a 32/20...

There is if you reload! Again, fragile brass and no carbide dies.
You not afraid of a 115 LBT Trundling along at just over sonic speed? Pointed by a fella who can point?

OH YES I am a'feard!! My point was all the bottleneck cartridges (32-20, 38-40, 44-40) are a PITA to reload to those of us who are used to loading up say, 500 .44 special cartridges in carbide dies and not getting lube on our fingers! smile

The 44 WCF is thinner and will fold up if handled carelessly. That said, it actually holds more powder than a Magnum. The main thing about reloading it is kinda getting in a rhythm.
