Where is BSA, he off hunting ? Ive not seen him here a good while? very best WinPoor
Was thinking the same thing yesterday. Hasn't posted since 1/30. Hopefully he's out killing things.
John
I thought I saw one of his right hand 70 stainless guns with the painted brown stock listed on Gun Broker.
Wondering the same myself... Sent him a pm asking about a pre64 in a 264 that Needs a new stock and seeing what he thought a fair price was no reply.
Maybe he's out driving around buying up all the good deals on pre64's. Hope he leaves a Fwt 270 for me.
I hope he's chilling on a beach, having a cocktail.
Eric
Yep, Knowing he is from cold country maybe he is in Cancun with his wife with dark sunglasses on and when his wife says wow did you see that beauty that makes that thong look good he will say no I was watching that boat out there trying to figure what kind of monster fish they have hooked up! All the while looking thru those dark shades saying my God what an azz on that gal!, If I was 20 years younger I would bury my nose in that! LMAZZO OK BSA let us know all is well!!! You are out no1 Winchester forum good guy! very best WinPoor
He may be taking a break from us.
Seriously hope all is well with him, I was wondering where he had gone too.
Nope BSA loves Winchesters to much to let any of the part time turds here run him off, Im just hoping nothing bad has happened! very best WinPoor
He sold his 7mag on GB a couple of days ago. Seems odd to me, as he really liked that rifle from the sounds of it.
http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=467598021Hope he is doing okay.
He's fine. He's just been busy.
Bingo,Bravo, I felt like all was well, hell we all need and take a break from these computers from time to time. BSA is a class act, would buy from him on word ,sight unseen! very best winpoor
Good to know. He's one of the valuable contributors here, and I would hate to see him leave.
He's probably "busy" finding some great deals on pre64s somewhere!
Hey guys, I've just been chilling like someone else said
. Sorry to scare some of you good guys here!! Yes, as DD said, I recently sold my 7mm rem mag. It was a damn good rifle and I'm sad to see it go, but I've thought about fine tuning my collection. It just didn't make the cut (not a pre 64
...) I guess. I have a lot of 7mm stuff that is going to go on the chopping block too. I'll post that stuff in the classifieds here. It's going to take me a long time to answer some of the PM's that I have
. If any of you guys need some 7mm rem brass and bullets, look at the classifieds. Thanks for your concerns and kind words!!!
Good to see you again, BSA!
Eric
Welcome back BSA!
Good to hear you're ok, Beez!
I was starting to get a little worried, myself.
Good to hear nothing was amiss.
My guess is you are hanging onto .270, .338, 9.3x62, probably some others . . . and you have no .300WM to sell
Ha ha...
, don't forget about the good ol 30-06. Donsm70 was trying to get my 9.3x62mm. That rifle is so damn accurate I need to keep it around. The only downfall with it is it's not a pre 64 model 70. The CZ 550's are pretty robust and function very well though..
Never owned a CZ, but they have a good reputation with people who know rifles. I passed on a nice one in 9.3x62 only because I have a J.C. Higgins M50 action destined for a 9.3. I always wanted at least one real Mauser.
Phew, I was worried you were out scouping up all the good deal pre64 270's out there. Welcome back.
And to think, I used to hate 270's
. Mine has been an eye opener for me. They are just sweethearts. I'm not giving up any of my 30-06's though...
You're not old enough yet... given time you'll like the 270 more and more.
BSA, I only have 2 .270's, so that's why I'm looking for another one.
Ha ha... You guys are funny, yet make so much sense at the same time...
BSA, I only have 2 .270's, so that's why I'm looking for another one.
Lightweight,have 4-.270's and right now that's enough.
I only have 1. I don't want to be accused of being gay or something....
Glad you're back.

I must be slowing down.....I only have three.
Yup.
elkhuntr I guess I haven't been able to find one lately that makes me want to buy it.
Yep glad to see yur A-OK
I dont freuent this board but when I do I look for your posts BSA
Went to a gun show yesterday and found a Pre '64 M 70 .270 made in 1958. It's still there, but by dog,it's very tempting to add #5 .270 to the house.
The price is $1100,which is a steal IMHO.
I'n in need of one bad. Preferably a FWT but a std will do just fine also

Ohhhhh noooo! I'm in the hunt for a 270 but just too far to drive. I do have a line on a FWT a bit closer to home, just need to move my Remmy Mtn rifle first.
The problem for me,is that,no one wants to trade,it's cash is king.
Seems like everyone is looking for a 270....no wonder they're getting harder to find!
Glad all is well, next time make sure you have permission before you leave.
Geezz....
.. I'll ask next time..
. I missed you Winchester loving/loony fools...
I just assumed you'd changed your handle to slavek.....grins.
Seems like everyone is looking for a 270....no wonder they're getting harder to find!
I guess after ninety (!) years, the secret is finally out!
I suppose the good news is Winchester made a lot of .270s

It took me a looooooooong time to jump on the 270 bandwagon. I still say I don't like mine because it makes my 30-06 look bad, and my 06 isn't a slouch either!!!!

Same here but with the wife pregnant with child number 4 I need a 4th so every kid can have there own M70 in .270. Lucky devils. I am thinking a FWT is the next one to join us.
I think a 70 FWT is the new Holy Grail in Pre64 M70's. I see almost everything from a 250-3000 to 458's but not much in a 270 that's a high condition gun. 20 or so years go I bought a 270 FWT but someone free floated the barrel with what looked like a chainsaw. In the ignorance of youth I had it restocked. I have all the FWT's but would like another 270 just for the originality.

I like mine even more since I put it in the Mcmillan:
I still have an original fwt stock hanging up in the shop.
My 30-06 of course
I think a 70 FWT is the new Holy Grail in Pre64 M70's.....
GSP: It has been that way for 30-40 years.

Bob, your math is wrong. They came out in '52
270 Fwts. do command a premium....the last one that I saw with condition (over a year ago) sold for $1,700.00.
I had to go and shoot mine today. She's a sweetheart!!!
I need to get mine out. In need of trigger time.
The 270 fwt does pretty good. Here's how it shot in Carl Ross' positional match today:
Not my best shooting, but the rifle is capable enough..
My kind of fun, for this ole x-course hp shooter. Going to have to try this out.

Tell me sometimes how that works, Ive been using the end of my 3350' X 175ft. turf runway as my range, Im still shooting off a cypress table I built out of cowpen lumber using wally world bags. Im thinking of updating range a little bit! very best WinPoor

You'll come around to the .300 magnum next . . .

What range, BSA?
Eric
Eric, southwind had it right with his little sticky:
Carl ross positional match You should check it out. It's fun, and it's a timed event... You should try it with the old std wt.. I'll bet that rifle would do very well!!!
BSA, that is cool. Thanks for the link. I'll have to try it out with the '06. It's similar to some of the training we have in the military. It's a good way to make sure you're not getting too comfortable on the bench.

Exactly!!!!! We both know I need more practice at the bench though!! :

bsa: I know but I really meant in the post 64 era.....seems ever since the pre 64's increased in value the 270 FW always seemed to be in demand.

No kidding, what a mess!!
bsa, if you don't start showing more respect for the center of your targets we're going to have to take them away from you young man.

Ok Bob, that makes sense. I really liked the 1980 made XTR fwt (first year they brought back the featherweight in post production). My good buddy 79s gave this one to his daughter for Christmas after he talked me out of it:
I can see where something like this could be popular...
