I have owned just about EVERY Remington Rifle made since the 1940's - and along the way (last 70 years) I have had several favorites. My first favorite was an extremely accurate Remington 722 in 222 Remington. I used it for Rock Chucks and Coyotes when I lived out in taxington. Then I bought one of the first Remington 700 BDL Varmints in 222 Remington as well, and this notably accurate Rifle became my favorite - sadly I let that first Remington 722 slip through my fingers (money issues). Some years later I followed a Mule Deer Hunting friend of mines advice and bought a Remington 700 BDL Varmint in caliber 25/06 Remington. This Rifle soon became my favorite long range Rock Chuck, Coyote, Antelope and Mule Deer Hunting gun. I later became enthralled with Remingtons 40-X line of Rifles and owned and do own many of them in a variety of calibers. BUT.... in 2,005 along came a new and somewhat innovative offering from Remington, that being the Remington XR-100. This Rifle is a heavy 26" barreled, single shot, solid action, bolt operated "target" Rifle. I own several of these XR-100 Rifles now and every one I have come across or owned/own shot amazingly well! The stocks on these XR-100's are well designed for both Colony Varmint Hunting and range work. They are laminated in a pleasing gray tone with a perfectly fitting (for me) thumbhole. These Rifles were offered for just a few years and in 4 calibers - 204 Ruger, 223 Remington, 22-250 Remington and 308 Winchester. I own multiples of all these calibers in this model except for the limited edition guns in 308 Winchester - can't pry one of those loose as yet. The triggers on all my XR-100's are VERY pleasing and very conducive to accuracy - mine are all right at 20 ounces. Puzzles me why Remington quit offering these wonderful Rifles after just a couple of years manufacture? Hands down the Remington XR-100 in 204 Ruger is my current favorite Remington Rifle ever made. Anyone else enjoy these Remington XR-100 Rifles? Hold into the wind VarmintGuy
I would be hard pressed to come up with a favorite. I will say this right up front......my first really nice rifle was a 700 Classic in 270 Win that I bought the first year they came out. I absolutely love that rifle, and have probably killed more deer with it than all other rifles combined that I've used over the years, and that's been a bunch. It would be one of the last rifles I would ever get rid of, and if I'm ever lucky enough to draw a Kentucky elk tag, it is the one I'll use.
I think the prettiest Remington I've ever owned was a 700 Boone and Crockett model, with a laminated stock and very deep bluing. I regret pricing it to a guy and selling it.
I also loved the 700 LVSF rifles. I have one in 243, and it is a shooter. I am still kicking myself for not buying the one in 221 Fireball that Gander Mountain had on a clearance sale years ago.
As much as I love the 700's, I have always had a soft spot for the Model 7's as well. I bought one of the Predator versions when they first hit the market, a 223, that was probably the most accurate out-of-the-box I've ever shot. I still have it as well as one in 22-250.
I've had an 1100 that was not very reliable, but the 11-87's I've had all were great shotguns, and I have a couple of them.
Come to think of it, I have a good many favorite Remingtons.
It's mentioned elsewhere here but anyone who knows me knows I like my 870s and 1100s but to pick a favorite it would be the early 700 mountain rifle in 30-06. Stock has been changed to a Grayboe, Timney trigger and a Leupold 3.5-10 now. Same load of 57 grains of IMR4350 and 165 gr Ballistic tips. Put tons of deer in the freezer, a dozen bear , turkeys, Bobcats coyotes and probably a few others.

DAMN! "Dream Forum realized" as just now noted! 23:15 hrs and needing sleep! Like double dose of Viagra and finding your "hot date" suffering puncture wound! Definitely "deflating experience!"
I SHALL RETURN... (Promise or Threat, du jour!") Best! John
Well, the notable ones I'd like to have back include several 700 mtn rifles in 7x57 (2), 280 (2) and 270 (2). Also a couple 25-06 (classic and a 700 bdl) and a 700 classic in 6.5x55. One I wish I had found, but never did, was a 700 KS in 270 or 280. Probably could have saved me a lot of $ and time going through dozens of other rifles!
About any BDL that will fit in a Mtn Rifle or Mtn. Rifle(esque) stock, think Grayboe Outlander. As for caliber, I can't say I have a fave at the moment but I do prefer short actions and no heavier than a sporter contour. A late 80's 3006 Mtn Rifle kicked off the love affair for that stock design and an old 700 18" barreled 222 started me down the Remington road. Wish I still had that one.
MikeS: Dang that Remington 700 KS in 300 Winchester magnum would be HIGHLY sought after in my neck'o the woods! Lots of hike in over-night Elk Hunters hereabouts. Hold into the wind VarmintGuy
RAS: I also have enjoyed owning a couple of Remington 725's - but I never shot or Hunted with them. I just bought them as investments - and sold them to quickly! And this - isn't the Remington Model 725 more of a "direct competitor" to the Winchester pre-64 Model 70 Supergrade than to a Featherweight? Yeah I do so wish I had those Remington 725's back. And indeed the Remington 700 Classics were just that - classy, simple and accurate Rifles. I often wish I had continued on my one time quest to get a complete collection of Remington 700 Classics. Got sidetracked a couple decades ago. Only have 7 of them left. Long live the Remington 700. Hold into the wind VarmintGuy
Troutnut: That is a dandy looking Rifle and obviously a very successful Hunting Rifle. Good for you. Great photo as well. Hold into the wind VarmintGuy
I have a few that I rank high on my "Favorite Remington list"
M30 in 30-06 (Don't have one but sure would love to) Remington M1917 in full issue/ excellent condition, (again don't have it, but would love to) Remington M141 in 35 Remington (have one, and have killed deer and antelope with it) Remington M81 in 300 Savage. (have one and have killed deer and antelope with it too)
The 700’s are favorites. Which one??? I have a few Classics I’ve sold a few too. I can’t pick which one is best. For 22’s 512P & 511P - but the 513T is the most accurate. I have a 721 30-06 with its fourth barrel that looks like a 700 BDL with a different bolt handle. I’ve had that one maybe the longest and killed more big game with it than any other. It wears a stock that I shaped and inletted, bedded and added a fire-end tip and recoil pad.. I really like the 600 Mohawks and the 660’s I’ve had. I have a walnut model 7 in 223 that is amazingly accurate. I had one in 243 just like it, but it’s gone. I had a XP-100 in 7mm International - most accurate pistol I ever had. One of my newest acquisitions is a 700 Mountain 7x57 that is one fine rifle. Maybe the best deer rifle??? IDK! When pronghorn season comes along it’s an old ADL 25-06. When elk season comes along it’s a draw between a 270, a 280, the 721 30-06, a 7mm RM or a 300 magnum. The 7mm RM has the prettiest stock. Going for prairie dogs - uff da - I have a 223 that should be re-barreled but maybe the 22-250AI, the 204 is nice too. I like the 722 222 a lot. That sweet model 7 223 shoots under 1/2 MOA… Then there’s my 6mm ADL with a Kevlar stock…
Asking which is favorite is like asking which one of my kids is my favorite or which one of the dogs i had is my favorite.
Mine is the Varmint Specials. I've had them all at one time or another and still have a few left I need to do something with. Also, the 541T,541S,581 are fun. Older 700's from the 70's and 80's. I can still remember going to K-Mart as a kid and seeing those beautiful Remington products on the gun rack.
I have to say, "Favorite in what way?" Probably most attached to my old (1967) 788 in .222. Bought it new the first week they hit the market. learned to reload with that rifle, killed a lot of stuff with it (including deer before it got trendy to do so) and it would be next to the last rifle I'd ever get rid of. Currently have only a few others that I can think of, a Nylon 66 and a couple of 700's, one an XCR/CTR .223 and a recently acquired 700 Alpha 1 in .308. Both are what I consider solid, working rifles. Both are very accurate, efficient and border on butt ugly. Coincidentally, they are the only two rifles I killed more than one deer each with last year, all the other rifles I used were one and done for the season. I have come close to getting a new 700 C recently. I think they are the cleanest, most elegant looking bolt action rifles out there. If I came across a nice 700 Classic in any one of several particular calibers on one of the local consignment racks it would come home with me (for no good reason.)
Every time I think of a fave, I think of another. Have had very good service out of many 700's over the decades. Results so good across the board that I couldn't really pick just one.
Sweets it’s 700 BDL with the enhanced receiver, I bought a stock off one of the 7mm anniversary rifles with B grade walnut and stripped then refinished it linseed oil.
Current favorite is a 547 custom shop .22LR sporter. Looks good and shoots fine. Once, while young and dumb, I left a 40x sporter, a repeater IIRC, sitting in a gun store in CO.
I still like the 700 Classics too. I’ve owned a few dozen over the years but am down to 3 now: .270, .280 and 30-06. Downsizing now, I’ll keep one of the first two. The ‘06 might get tripped, but it might also get rebored. 🤔
Poconojack: I have a Remington 700 Sendero in caliber 270 Winchester. I use it on Mule Deer, Whitetail Deer and Antelope - I have also kill't one Bull Elk with it. This Rifle is so accurate I hesitate to expound on that, for fear of causing a CampFire "melt-down"! I recommend, if you ever see one of these heavy barrel synthetic stocked 270 Sendero's, BUY IT! Remington 700 classic in 3006 that I bought new in I think 1981. also had a BDL in 280 Remington that would have been my favourite but I iked it so much that I shot the throat out and had to sell.
Always fond of the late 70's Model 700 when I was a kid. Enjoyed the Model 742 in my 20's....but got back into the business with a 2005 700 Mountain DM 30-06.
EdM: I was at a small and out of the way gunshop in Butte, Montana Wednesday of this week and there amid the clutter was a VERY nice condition (with 10 round magazine) Remington 541-S (this being the sporter model?). I ask the proprietor how much it was - he replied "the owner wants me to sell that and a few other guns on gunbreaker". I replied I have cash how much does the owner want? No luck, the proprietor was dead set on going to gunbreaker with the gun and starting the bidding at $1.00! I could NOT persuade the owner of the shop to get a price from the guns owner (consignee?) no matter how I persisted. The gun was that nice and had very pleasing wood on it. So.... if anyone is interested in a really nice Remington 541-S (?) it should be on gunbreaker by now! I don't trust gunbreaker and the inclusive costs and worries. So "I" am out on this nifty rig. I own just two Remington 541's now (sold a few for profit) and they are both the T model (heavy barrels) and both are VERY accurate. I love every thing about the 541-T's except the cheap plastic magazines. Hold into the wind VarmintGuy
My screen name maybe 348winchester but my favorite rifle is actually 600 Remingtons. I own just about every configuration of them except the rare .223. I also have several 660s as well. Oh and a 673 too. I killed my moose with it in 300saum. I only own 1 700 rem and its a custom rifle in .358 win. Don’t know how many rimfire Remingtons Ive got. If you know how many you own, you don’t own enough. Lol
I am a Winchester guy, but I have had continue to have affairs with Remington's! I am quite fond of 722's, and 700's from 222 to 244's with a 541S as one of my favorites. There is a fellow that makes a stainless steel mag for them, that even makes me like it better. The Model 31 has always been a magnificent piece of machinery, just hard to find an exceptional condition one where I roam. A Model 1900 Side by Side schooled me on how much I appreciate Damascus either on a knife or a firearm. I had a near perfect one when young and poorer, that separated itself from me when a Gentleman made an offer, I couldn't refuse! The 725 has been elusive for me, I have seen very few and of those they were molested or had hard use. In all honesty the thrill of the hunt is what keeps me motivated on the oldies but goodies and I do have my favorites.
Besides the full out customs, Number one slot for me would be my 700 Bdl that came from the custom shop. I bought it from a friend who used to post on here. From day one it has been a screamer with 140’s, 150’s and 160’s. It has some great memories built on it. Close second is a 700 SPS in 223. It just always seems to end up in the truck or in the side by side. Deer, hogs and vermin have been been dropped by it. If Remington gets back to making the CDL in 25-06 I will be speed dialing a dealer.
First, here speaking "Collector/shooter" not hunter for my frame of reference regarding Remington rifles. In that context... My favourite Remington, my early Model 30 Rifle from 1923 in the first configuration. Sporting half stock with finger-groove forend, unique factory aperture sight and crescent heavy steel butt plate wrapping around the toe. Those times using a number of surplus 1917 parts, some still military inspector marked. Into 1925, those were 'cock-on-closing' actions which I prefer on some rifles.
Here's to Remington, the Firm it was for hundred fifty years plus! Best! John
I've always liked Remington 700's. My favorite is probably my .280 Mountain Rifle, but I also have a 7mm08, .30-06, 7mm Rem Mag and a .300 Win Mag. They all shoot well and have been reliable. They run a bit lighter than M70's or Ruger M77's which is nice for some kinds of hunting.
without a doubt the Remington LVSF. I've had a bunch but the 2 best were a 308 and 7-08. The last 308 I had was the most accurate gun I ever owned. Sold it to a campfire member. No flys on the little fireball either.
Swampy has risen from the dead and on Easter to boot. Your looking the same but your girlfriend looks rode a little harder and put away wet to many times. Best you use her a little less vigorously if you want her to last. Good to see you again anyways. Mb
My current favorite is a lightly modified 700 Classic. 300 Savage, barrel cut to 22in, target crowned, Timney trigger, Leupold VX2 2-7X. Came out very accurate and makes a great deer rifle.
I’d coveted a mountain rifle in 280 Rem since they first came out. Acquired a nice 1987 model that I haven’t had a chance to set up yet. Hoping it displaces my silly accurate 700 SS Mtn in .308 and my 504 .22lr which are currently co-favorites.
Of the Remingtons I own there are two I could never part with.
The first, a 580 given to me by my parents for my 8th birthday. A sweet little rifle that harkens back to a time when life was simple and good. Innocence I’ll never get back.
Another is a model 24 made in 1929. That rifle is more fun and reliable than any semi auto 22 of the time should be. It is sleek in looks and operation. Still made today (last I checked) as the Browning SA-22
Kandpand: Good luck on corralling those nifty sounding Remington Rifles. I know I have seen the 700 KS Model 700's in 270 and 30/06 but do not recall seeing those calibers you wish for in the CDL SF models. Again good luck in gathering those guns. Hold into the wind VarmintGuy
My original purchase of a 700 BDL DBM SS/synthetic. It was about 1989 or 90(IIRC). It is the Venable 3006 caliber and it has taken a large pile of critters all over the west and I will never part with it until I am gone. It is in a B & C carbon fiber stock and it shoots and carries great.
Remington's are my favorite rifle for sure. I only have one, but with I had never sold the others. My favorite is the Remington 700 Ti in 7 SAUM.
The others have been:
Remington Model 7 in 7SAUM Remington 700 CDL in 7/08 (still can't believe I sold this one) Remington 700 ADL in .270 (probably the most accurate of them all) Remington 7400 in .270
My father has a Remington 700 in 7Mag and a Model 7 in .243. I killed a huge axis buck with that .243.
Model 14's in .32 and .35 Remington for big game , model 25 in 25 WCF for medium game and a Model 24 for small stuff . Favorite Remington bolt gun has always been my 788 carbine in .243 , the only one I ever kept.
