I sold my last .270 Win. four seasons ago to a young(er) friend. Since then he has taken 8 whitetails with no trouble at all (and without using premium bullets.) Mostly he has two down by about 7 a.m. opening morning.
I used various .270's for moose for years and they worked just fine.

Always assuming a decent hit with hunting weight bullets then the 270 will cleanly take any whitetail that ever has or ever will walk the earth.

Anyone who does not think a .270 is an ideal cartridge for deer--whitetailed or mule deer--either has very weird expecations or has had some very outlier experiences. Flat, fast, easily mastered recoil, ammo found everywhere. There are few if any negatives.

True enough.
Have killed a great many deer with a 270.
And even used 130 grain Sierra Game King bullets on many. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" />
The 270 works just fine.
Sold mine to one of my companies VP's cause i was in need of money.
He has used that rifle to take down at least 8 deer that i know of.
And of course with standard cup and core bullets.
Couldn't resist stating that. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

Bounces off deer.Deer are impervious to the 270.
284 kills wicked good though.
So send me those worthless 270's preferably nice
but worthless Mod 70 Pre 64's ...

I think the .270 works on whitetails in all states except Texas. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

You will not regret getting the .270. It is a good all round medium game ctg and also works great as a long range gun too.

my step father actually passes up the .30-06 on a regular basis to take the .270.

I've had more DRTs (dead right there) with the .270 Winchester than any other cartridge I have ever used.

A .30-06 would be better.
