I have used this combo for three elk and haven't had a problem yet. Like I said, I know that the bullet is losing a lot more weight than say a swift a-frame by the wound channel created but as long as they keep falling down I'll keep using it. Sounds like that 8mm Mag would kick about like mine, luckily my rifles weight is about 8 1/2 pounds so kick really isn't a problem.

I was kidding really; I shoot a .325 WSM in a very light rifle so it's probably not a whole lot less kick... still, 8mm-mag has a rep as a brutal kicker, deserved or not.
They sure have backed down on 8-mag loads in the books eh? They are not too far off from .325 WSM these days whereas guys who've shot them for decades report MUCH higher speeds.

I talked to the folks at Sierra about that bullet, and they said it was designed for Whelen speeds and perhaps wouldn't open right from a .358. There you go! Should work fine in the 350. BMT

... or not, which is sort of the knock on Sierra! castandblast's report was of a Whelen and the 225-Sierra if I'm remembering it right. For the life of me, I cannot see a reason to choose the Sierra over a 225-gn Partition for elk. The Partition is a SOFT bullet up front and will be doing similar things as the Sierra- IE expanding rather violently- but will also act as a big ugly solid and penetrate. I mean I have 2 of those green boxes of Sierra's on my bench; they are a superbly accurate bullet. But for elk? Why not the Partition? -jeff

I know.. Hows the recoil on your 325? I think I saw somewhere it's a BLR? I have to give it credit for not being bad at all with my 358 despite some claims it's a hard recoiler...I don't feel it's much different than my 270 (which doesn't have a pad BTW).

I actually have TWO .325's, and you are correct one is a BLR. I consider it, right or wrong, to be the ultimate timber elk rifle because it does all that, plus has 400-yard reach. More I guess in theory...
The other one is a Kimber Montana. I was shooting that one today as it turns out.
Recoil is brisk but not painful or a problem with either one. Both have good recoil pads- Limbsaver on the BLR, Decelerator on the Montana.
I used to have a BLR in .358- it led me to get my Model 7 rebarreled to .358! Love .358 a lot.
