Question to Marlin fans and the 35 Rem.

Looking over a 336 in 35 Rem. I have never shot the 35 Rem. Is this caliber worth the money I have to part with ? I have a few 336's all were and are in 30-30 Win. Plan to hunt deer with this 35 Rem.

thanks.

The 35 Remington is good for anything a 30-30 is good for, plus it is a good Elk cartridge. It is not a long range cartridge.

It is also a good cast bullet cartridge...

It is basically a 30-30 with a heavier bullet. It puts the smack down on deer and hogs here in Georgia.

Some might disagree, but the 35 Rem knocks them in the dirt much faster than the 30-30, in my humble opinion, and does it well out to 150 yards. I have no experience with the cartridge at ranges past that.

I've read articles that stated that the Marlin 35 Rem was the #1 black bear rifle for the north eastern hunter. I've owned a 35 Rem for the last 30 years. If you look at a Speer manual with the 180grFN & 220grFN, You can drop all the deer you want. I use the 180grFN with max load of H335 and a CCI 250 mag primer and have 2 shots touching at 100 yards. Buy one and you won't be sorry.

I have one 336 in .35 Rem. Love it. Good round. It'll kill a black bear deader than heck. Hope to get an elk with it this year.

I guess the Hornady LeveRevoltions will give you a 300 yd gun. Haven't tried them.

The .35 is a pleasure to shoot in the Marlin 36.

To me the .35 Rem. cartridge is kinda like the 45-70's little-brother.
It's still a real 'Hammer' on game, but not on your shoulder.

Also, the .35 Rem. chambered in a Marlin 336-C Carbine makes for a powerful package that's compact and convenient for a truck rifle, or home/ranch defense.

Its traditional Western style also goes anywhere and doesn't raise eyebrows -as it flies under the Radar of the "Black Rifles".

Maybe there is a Marlin expert out there. I have a 336 in 35 Rem. Its not a carbine, and it is not micro grooved either! It has a half tube mag. or maybe 2/3's. I think its a regular rifle length. I heard they started to mirco groove barrels in '58, don't know if it so, but it shoots good! I love it, and should be carrying it in the mountains around home, but haven't, I have been shooting it and it drives tacks at 125 yards. Any guess to the age would be great! Thanks, Otis!

Otis: If it has a rifle length barrel, you may have a 336A. I am not a Marlin expert, but had one in .30-30. Attractive rifle that shot fairly well. It now lives in PA and hunts with a friend. I have heard of several people that have sent their Marlin's in 35 Rem to be rechambered to 356 Win for a little more thump.

Yeah, at both ends!

Otis, if you post the first letter and numbers of your serial, it's pretty easy to date it. Mine (24" barrel) started with an H and was made in 1951.

I have a buddy that uses a .35 in a Marlin 336 and he loves it! That gun really puts the deer down fast. His tracking jobs are very short!

On paper the 30-30 and 35 Remington are very similar. It comes down to what do you believe in? I'm a big fan of the 35 caliber and reloading it.

I shot this years buck at 110 yards with my 336 35 Rem. was a neck shot dropped it on the spot.Wasn't going to take the shot but the rack was 21 in from head to tip all I could see in the scope was a lot of points and didn't want to take a chance on not seeing him again.

I've sold 2, 336s in 35 Rem. to women. Heard one got a deer 1st year, never heard from her again. Other woman, went to my hunter safety course 2003, bought my .35 instead of a 30-30. Second day out shot a big doe, 148 lbs dressed. She took pics of where she was standing, where the doe was standing to her, really got hot for deer hunting. Heard at a Xmas party, she has shot her 4th or 5th deer with that .35.

Back in early 80's, I swapped a washer/dryer for a 336, 30-30, a woman had. Shot 1 fork-horn buck (her only deer) cried, couldn't eat it, gave up hunting. I could carry that rifle around better than a washer/dryer. Had scope, C-thru mts, sling, shells, case. Perfect, perfect shape. Sold it to a guys father who just retired from the power company. Next spring, I read where he had died, 64. Don't know if he got a deer with it or not. ... 99 LL ...
