I would like to buy an illuminated variable that I will mount on a RRA AR 15. I don't know what is available. I'm not sure about power. On the high end something from 4 or 5 to as much as 9 or 10 power max. The only illuminated scope that I am a familiar with is Leupold. I have a 1.5-5 mounted on a Kimber Super America .22 that I really like. It is not illuminated and I have never fired a rifle with an illuminated scope mounted. Who makes these scopes and what power range would be practical? I use the rifle for recreational and casual target shooting. I would like to spend $500.00 to $600.00 max. $350.00 to $500.00 would be ideal. Thanks

The Weaver Classic Extreme's were on sale for under $300 at Natchezss for a time; a few people on this board have them and speak highly of them. Do a search in the AR-15 forum and you'll turn up some info.

If you can afford to wait and save up a little Trijicon's illuminated reticles are the best in the business.

bargan of a lifetime right here. Weaver Classic Extreme. I bought the 2.5-10X50 model for a bolt gun. My brother in law saw so it today and ordered a 1.5-4.5X24 from my computer! These scope are simply worth far more than the asking price.

I think you cost me about 300 bucks! I'll let you know if I thank you for it later but I believe I will be. wink

Thanks a million gentlemen, I just bought the Weaver from Natchez. It really is a great price! I been shooting and buying guns for more than forty years. I'm like a little kid, I get excited every time I buy something nice. I can't wait. Thanks again, I sincerely appreciate your help.

I use a Leupold 1.5-5X 30mm scope on my Colt HBAR. It has the illuminated German #4 reticule.
When I switch to the Spike's Tactical upper, I use an EOTec.

Terry

How heavy is the Weaver? I tried to find the specs but all I could find was the shipping weight and judging from that it seems to be pretty heavy.

I'm not really sure. It didn't seem too heavy to me though. Mine is already mounted up so I won't be much help here.

It's a good looking scope though. I wish I had to extra coin for the 1.5-4.5X24. I would replace the Vortex Strikefire on my AR.

Here is the 2.5-10X50 I bought.

Thanks Terry

I just ordered one in 2.5 x 10. I would also like the 1.5 x 4.5 also but then I'd owe the CC company twice as much.

Sorry but I have illuminated scopes and thats the biggest waste of money I"ve ever seen unless you are older or vision is really bad.

The light doesn't help, I mean if its so dark you need a lighted xhair, then you won't be able to see the target generally, I actually have better luck shooting hogs at night with the lights off, and the crosshairs and animal stand out better with moonlight. Turn on the light, even very dim and it tends to constrict your pupil.....

OTOH a thermal scope, now that would be the cats ass.

Rost495, the scope mentioned is basicly a Weaver Grand Slam for $279. Far from a waste of money. Even if you popped the battery out and never used it again the scope itself is a fantastic deal.

How do you think that Weaver would work on a rimfire??

I think it would be fine if you can live with a big scope.

I just received mine and it is too big for the Montana I wanted to put it on but it will work fine for the 22 I use for silhouettes. It focuses close and the AO goes down to 20 yards. BTW it is clear and sharp.

TC1, Do you like your Vortex StrikeFire? Is there anything you don't like about it. I've never actually seen or handled one. I've thought about buying one. My concern is that the price is low and my experience with low priced optics has not been positive. I didn't want to use the term "Cheap Optics" because I have heard some pretty good reports on Vortex stuff.
