For those interested, I've now passed 200 rounds through the new FN 270,and nothing has changed...groups continue to be tight, and I fired it at 300 yards yesterday, and 400 yards this afternoon;the 3 shot group was a bit under 4" and perfectly centered a foot low. No need to touch the sights, and the combination of the Zeiss 4X with this rifle continues to group well and hold point of impact. Admittedly this is not much of a "test",but the consistency of this rifle is comforting. The barrel also "acts" like a cut-rifled Krieger,no crazy flyers, hot or cold, excellent groups. And function has been flawless. This rifle is proving to be pretty boring;not much to squawk about, and I am trying to find something......I'd like another but really can't think of anything else I'd need....

I've heard a lot of good things about them. I'd buy one in .30-06, but I really don't need another hunting rifle. Is yours a Featherweight?

Scott: I've beeen thinking the same thing myself....I'm about 90% that the 7mmDakota is going to BC with me,but I may take the FW somewhere else.
Swampman: Yes, it's one of the first FW's, the Special Editions, or whatever they call it.I keep shooting it because the scope is new as well, and want to watch how it holds POI.

Boringly reliable - greatest compliment a rifle and ammo can earn by my book. Hey, I did not know, you could shoot (and hit) at 400 yards with only a 4x fixed scope - optics forum has it, you need 10+ and a busy reticle at the very least. Turrets might even be in order.

CMG: I was unaware that a 4X was inadequate at 400 yards myself....until I joined the Campfire.Everything I've used a 4X on at 400 yards just keeled over before that....

Bring the Dakota to BC, I'd rather fondle that one than the FW!
Anybody who seriously concerns themselves with the adequacy of a Big 7mm for anything we hunt here short of brown bear, is a dufus. They are mostly making shidt up. Crunch! Nite-nite!

The load is known to 500 and I likely won't need it that far....74RL25-160 B'root at over 3100.I think it'll work And I won't faint cause it does not have short action agazain: Thanks, the 270 is about as accurate as the customs I've built. I don't know if this is typical or not for these new M70's.

Yes, and I was beside him when my father-in-law shot his Dall ram with a 270 Husqvarna and a Leupold 3X at almost that far! 'Course that was thirty years ago, and neither of us knew any better. Ted

I was unaware that a 4X was inadequate at 400 yards myself.... Jack O'Connor used a 4X on his .270 for many years.

Bob, one of the guys at work bought the new Fwt. in .270 and reports the same boring results as yours.....indeed he now has 4 M70s in .270 of various vintages, and says this is the best shooter of the bunch.... He scoped it with a 2x7, I'll tell him to crank it up past 4 if he expects to kill anything with it.... Ingwe

Bob's is like mine, consistent, boring. It has no major flaws and never throws a flier.
Bob, Mine loves the 160 Partition, have you tried it yet?
