Seems like a good round... but twice burned....

I'm not sure I want to invest in the 375 Ruger and have it go the way of the 450 Marlin or the 480 Ruger...

Which way did the 450 Marlin go? Seems to be rifles available as well as lots of reloading components.

What are your concerns with the 375 Ruger?

Mine will be...I have a set of dies and a couple hundred rounds of brass...what would keep it from functioning perfectly?

But in fact, it's pretty clear that it is becoming ever more popular, and it's already well past the break point.

How many rifle makers are offering rifles chambered for it now?

I've heard Ruger ramped up their production to something like 10,000 rifles a year for this caliber. It is extremely popular in Alaska and in Africa and is Rugers best selling rifle right now. Quality rifle at lower cost than a 375 H&H and it is lighter for all day carry. It can also be bought in stainless which is popular in Alaska. They are also making a .416 Ruger from the same cartridge brass which competes with the .416 Rigby which is a large cartridge.

Ruger and Hornady did it right with this one. It will become the new standard for 375 soon.

BTW, I also shoot a pre-64 Mdl 70 375 H&H and FN Sako 375 Wby, so I am being objective. wink

Marlin will no longer produce the 450M rifle in 2011...

or at least that is what I am told.

Brass is getting hard to come by.

luv2safari is right on. The 375 Ruger may well become the new 375 standard in Africa. It delivers all the H&H does is a smaller, lighter package.

I still love the traditional H&H but the Ruger is a really neat set up.

100 pcs. of brass would last a long, long, time IMO.
I may have bought one a few years ago but ended up finding a good deal on the H&H. My medium bore needs are pretty well covered.
Although maybe I could swap one of my 30-06 rifles for that cute little .338 Federal. wink

Last I checked the 450 Marlin was still available in the Browning
BLR...450 Marlin has its place for those who don't reload, but is not a round that would ever surpass the 45/70's popularity.(Same gun, same action,in the Marlins anyway) I think the 375 Ruger has the potential to actually surpass the 375H&H in popularity.(shorter action, more affordable rifle, lighter carry weight) just my 2cents.

Look they make powder every day, along with primers and 375 bullets. You lay in say 500 cases, and you are good for your life time of big game hunting. Its that simple. I think the cartridge is going to be around for quite some time.

............Each round is its own individual and sometimes should not and cannot be compared with other cartridges that have fallen out of popularity. As an example, you cannot compare the 480 Ruger revolver round as going by the way side, which it did, and then assume or associate that with a potential demise of the 375 Ruger. Guilt by association, is a far less credible way to assess a cartridge`s future.

Instead, you look at what makers are currently chambering the 375 Ruger such as Howa and Ruger right now, the products offered from distributors such as reloading equipment and supplies etc, articles and reports from writers and reading their opinions. You look at the overall 375 Ruger rifle sales for the past three or four years since its intro which have boomed, the present sales trends which in turn gauge future sales trends.

There is absolutely no shread of evidence that indicates the demise or the potential demise of the 375 Ruger in the short term or over the long term...........None!

The 375 Ruger has become so popular for several reasons;

The cartridge was designed to be shorter than the 375 H&H and hold more powder. That in turn, allows for shorter OAL rifles with shorter actions, which in turn can duplicate and slightly better the ballistic performance of the longer tubed and longer 375 H&H rifles.

My Ruger Alaskan as an example, does exactly that from its 20" barrel and 40.75" of OAL. A much handier and more manuverable pkg with the same power ballistically. That teaming up concept from Hornady and Ruger really caught on with the shooting/hunting public. No other round in recent history has grown in popularity so fast in such a short period of time since its intro like the 375 Ruger. It is becoming more popular in Africa now and in other parts of the world.

That is why the 375 Ruger is here to stay. Burned? I wouldn`t bet on that to happen. If you did from a marketing standpoint alone, then you`d also be betting against Hornady, Ruger, Howa, all the suppliers of 375 Ruger related products, etc and etc.

I'd love to have a 375 Ruger in case the dinosaurs make a comeback but I'm not too sure I could handle the recoil. I read somewhere that a 375 Ruger recoils about like a 12ga with turkey loads. I do shoot a 12ga with turkey loads so if that's true I might be able to handle it. I'd like to shoot a 375 Ruger but I don't know anybody that has one.

...............Why wait for them extinct dinos to come back? We have bison and moose on this continent perfectly suited for the 375 Ruger.

If you have fired the 375 H&H, no problem in handling the recoil of the 375 Ruger.

CZ is now chambering for the .375 Ruger as well.

And victoro, the recoil shooting off the bench is not much fun, but from field positions it is not bad at all out of my Alaskan.

I'd sure like to get one for whacking whitetails, but can't seem to justify it to myself. Something about .375 though that sings a pretty loud siren song......
