I am currently building a 405 Win Rolling Block rifle using a heavy Douglas Barrel 1:14 twist 26"
As a lifelong reloader and accuracy seeker and Bullet caster , I'm curious as to what bullets , Molds , and bullet weights work the best ?
I am seeing load data for 225 gr. lead, 300 gr. bullets primarily, and some 400 gr. loads thanks to BallisticBryan ! Seems to be nothing in the 250-275 gr range Bullets.
I have 50 rounds loaded with 300 grain Hornady Jacketed bullets, I have some antique ammo with silver RN bullets, and I have some cases to load.
Bullet Molds don't seem to be readily available for the 405, and the price for cast Bullets was kinda high in my opinion, as I would rather cast my own.
Any advice or suggestions from you guys would be appreciated.
Rich

What ever you decide, I'd recommend gas-check design mold

I purchased a 410663 Lyman Mold that casts a 400gr RN bullet . I can Machine it down to make lighter bullets , add Hollow point pins, etc. depending on how they cast and shoot.
I plan on Powder coating these with Hi-tek like we do for the 40-60 cast bullets. We get no Leading or fouling in the barrel , and accuracy is MOA.
I am familiar with Accurate molds , Thanks Bryan.

What alloy? What lube were you going to use?

Cast with a Lyman 410663 mold and using a Mix of wheel weight lead and linotype. I Plan on trying some with Hi-tek Coating and some may be traditional lubed with Best Lube or SPG.

what's the diameter? for a '95 you are going to need a .413" or so if you want it to shoot. My Lyman 41 cal. (supposedly for a 405) tosses .411" with wheel weights and it will not shoot decently. I'm running the .417" RCBS 350 gr. sized to about .413" and it does decently, but a bit low even with the sights topped out. I still need to work with powders; hopefully 1 will toss it high enough to regulate well...
