The 7 PRC seems to not live up to the velocity claims by Hornady. Looking at reloading manuals they are showing the ~ velocities that Hornady says. For those who have reloaded for it can you get the claimed velocities with a 24" barrel?

My mossberg does OK. Especially for an inexpensive rifle.

That's really good. Have you tried the heavier bullets in 168g thru 185g?

I'm guessing no pressure signs with your load. I looked at the Alliant's website and couldn't find anything on the 7 PRC. I don't have one but was contemplating one before all the reports from people not getting the advertised velocity.

I am shooting 180 gr Scenars. At 550 yards I was getting .5 MOA and popping the 6” plate. Roughly .029” off the lands but base to Ogive is what counts. 2975 fps with 67.0 grs of H1000.

This is with a 26” barrel BUT I do not consider this a warm load in my rifle. It’s just where I stopped. I would feel comfortable with the same velocity with a 24” barrel and a little more powder.

Forget about factory ammo getting what Hornady claims on the box.

Here is an article (among others) that I used as a guide:

The factory 180 ELD M’s averaged 2888 fps in my 26” barrel.

That's what I have been hearing. Glad to see you are doing better with handloads.

Apologize not 7PRC but Hornady does tend to exaggerate on velocity claims....
Example: Hornady claims their 204 Ruger ammo with 32gr V-Max will shoot 4225fps laugh not close with several rifle's even with a 26" barrel

Hornady tends to stretch everything.

Yes, and they are showing good velocity from a 24" barrel.
