The 7-8 tags are valid on private in Albany and Carbon Counties and on public and private in Platte County from AUG 15- OCT 14.
Then they become valid throughout the whole area off the national forest, meaning private state and BLM is open to hunting cow elk OCT 15-DEC 31.

As I understand it the area 7 type 8 tag will be unlimited in numbers an individual can get, but good only on private land in Platte and carbon county and possibly part of Albany as well. Problem for hunters is to find access and how much are you willing to pay for that access. I live in unit 7 , had a type 1(bull) tag and a type 6 , did not even attempt to hunt the unit, due to access, instead got a cow tag in unit 6 found a ranch willing to let me in at no charge and got my cow. Ranch hand helped me dress and load her. Good folks can be found. Also helps if you are willing to help repair fences

I seen that. Also I was informed that after Oct. 15, those tags are unit wide.

Not quite , though 85 years old , on O2 and can’t walk the hills anymore, plus elevation kicks my butt. Went down hill fast this past few months damn it. Have lots of good bulls, my best came XO from Nevada in fact.

Only a soft tard-bìtch like you wouldn't hunt a tag in 7 because of "access" issues. Tens of thousands of NF land to hunt....plenty of bulls on public in 7.

How did your ranch cow hunts go?

How did your ranch cow hunts go?

We all know you have never killed a bull elk so why whine about your betters?

Schit boys, give me a bull tag in 7 and I'd live there from September til I killed one lol.
I get the elevation thing. I live at 1500 feet in western Oklahoma and 8000 gets to me a but. Seems to take me about 36 hours to get used to it. And I'm in pretty good shape. Last year the deer were hanging out pretty high, same with the elk. Oct. 15-21. Snow came in the day I left and I think a few came down. Is what it is, it's hunting up there. Good glass, an 800 yard rifle, and a warm tent with a sleeping mat goes a long ways. Threw in for a few unit 47 doe antelope tags too. Long shot, but would be a nice added bonus.
