It is presently a tackdriver heavy barrel 308. I have a couple of barrels I can put on the action. A mountain rifle contour 308, a 24 inch 260 barrel, a heavy 243 Shilen barrel. The creeper feeling is to sell those barrels and build a light 6MM Creedmoor coyote rifle but I already have an accurate 243 for that purpose. The logical thing to do would be to build a light faux Mountain rifle using the 308 barrel. But then I already have a light 308 on a Mauser action. Another renegade thought would be to just re-barrel it to .......... I have started to post a similar thread several times. Maybe put another 22-250 barrel on it, which was on it when I first got it though shot out. Don't need long match bullets really. Hmmmmm If I built it like a Mountain rifle I would have two light 308 rifles. Not outrageous as I already have two 308's. As it is I only use it to punch holes in paper and I have several hole punchers.

I know what you mean..My original HP rifle was a 40X in 308. Done shooting HP, went to some PRS, and local LR matches..pulled the 308 barrel, the third one of that cal. on the action, went to a 250AI for that shooting, worked well. Then I took a break from the comp stuff, and the rifle just sat in the safe for a few years.
Finally said "Hell", pulled er apart couple months ago...she now has a 7mm barrel and the 708 chamber. Working up loads as we speak..
BTB, I do also have a 5x57 on a 98 that I dearly love. That rifle has brung home lots of bacon.

Good Luck

Just found a Mountain rifle contour barrel, stainless in 7-08. Going through drawers can be enlightening.
