Brother in law recently passed away so the family has asked me to move some of his firearms for them. A smith Chiefs special I would judge at least 95% if not more and a standard 4 inch in the same condition. Any pricing help would be appreciated.

I would start looking at GunBroker for some reasonable values. The actual value seems to vary a lot from place to place.

I would start looking at GunBroker for some reasonable values. The actual value seems to vary a lot from place to place. And when you go there, use the advanced feature to only look at completed sales. Just because someone is asking a certain price doesn't mean that's what it's worth. Also, make sure you know the model number and the dash number. They can be crucial in determining value.

I’d go to Guns International before Gun Broker. Gun Broker prices are from people that due to competitive bidding are inflated. Remember that there are charges added onto Gun Broker’s bid price. There’s several models that are called Chiefs Special. I see prices from $400+ change on up.

I prefer classic. Semper Fi I used to run with the hare. Now I'm envious of the tortoise and I do my own stunts but rarely intentionally

The Chief should be a 36, 26 is an N frame.
Do they have boxes? Original stocks? Blue or nickel?
Assuming blue %95 guns with no boxes they’ll probably bring around $1000 for the pair without sitting on them forever.
The 10-5 4” is a very common revolver and while a nice shooter, not a sought after collectible. 3 very nice ones sold on GB last week for $400-$450.
The 36 is again about the most common J frame made in the pre lock era. Great little guns, but not particularly scarce.

Your right it is a 36 but no boxes, just a nice clean pistol I've seen mint-in-box, pre-82, Model 36 S&W revolvers go for as much as a thousand dollars, but if you insist on that kind of price, it may sit unsold for a year, waiting for the one guy who has to have a mint, pre-82, Model 36. If in very nice condition, but not mint, the price you could expect is significantly less, since in this sort of condition, they are pretty common. On the order of $500.00 to $600.00, if really nice, yet not mint.

You can post them up on the classifieds and most likely find a buyer. Bare in mind that they are a bit of a pain to ship. You will have to take it to a FFL holder and ship it to another FFL holder. Consignment is not a terrible option.

Consignment is not a terrible option. NO! You do not have to ship FFL to FFL! You may find an FFL willing to ship it for a very modest charge, but there are options. Only FFLs may use USPS to ship handguns, but there are options... and yes, UPS and FedEx do not want your business. Several shippers will send you a shipping label to use under their license for a minimal charge.
