Regular old snap trap. I break up a vanilla wafer and chip a fragment into the shape of an hour glass and tie that to the trigger so they have to pull at it a bit. The wafer has a pretty strong smell as an attractant.

The new style in the OP does work very well. You can catch any number of mice on the same bait because they never get to it. They stick the nose in a small hole and push to get in. That lifts the trigger and zap!

For the little mice mice, not small rats the
regular old wood base Victors have worked
for me. When I had a mice convention at one
time, I got one of those Tin Cat galvanized
sheet metal boxes that will catch a herd.
And they surely will. After the 1st one scents
it up, you'll be getting several a night.
For the nasty rats like the border jumpers around
here attract with their profusion of litter and
food waste from the yard parties, I use the
regular wood base Victor finger busters.
All my snap traps get cotton string wound
around the trigger, and peanut butter rubbed
deep into the string. I also drill a hole in the
corner of the trap and use a length of wire
to tie off the trap like a foothold trap chain
for varmints when I set in certain locations,
especially an outdoor trap. Would have lost
a 110 the other day in a nuisance squirrel
set if not for tying it securely with wire.
Cat or hawk or possum or whatever tried
to take off with trap, squirrel and all. All
I had left was the head and neck. Same
thing with my gopher traps. They'll fly
away

Good Luck to everyone
