Put the Savage into retirement and replace it with something lighter.

I recently picked up Howa Carbon Stalker and with a 3-9 scope and Talley Lightweight mounts it weighs 5.95lbs

I got me one of those. It’s a bit heavier due to the 20oz Tract on top, and maybe the JO magazine setup. I have another one in 6.5 for deer, but in SS and a Pendleton stock. Both are very practical rifles for a gimpy old man hunting in Eastern hardwoods.

What fresh Hell is this?

I looked into lightening up a few of my rifles. After spending much time into looking at costs I decided that I was much better off starting with a light weight rifle.
My cost to lb and oz reduction to dollars ratio was very high. I’m going to make do with what I got or buy a new lighter weight if the itch persists.

the best way to replace a heavier older rifle is to place it back in the safe and then buy a Tikka T3x lite or even better a superlite.

I second everyone else. But the Tikka T3x, or T3x Superlite. You could also look at Browning XBolt stalker, Howa Superlite or Howa Carbon Fiber as mentioned above. You could also ket a Kimber Hunter in the same ball park as some of these rifles. Cabelas has a .308 in stainless Browning XBolt for $599 used right now. If it were me... sell the Savage and buyt the Tikka
