Wow! A "Missing Link 336?"

Bogtrotter, Thanks for your time and effort in posting the Marlin listing here and an unexpected "learning experience for me! From what I'd guess mid fifties or so listing! Basing the era as considering the reference to "sand blasted receiver tops" sounding like intro of a new feature.

I was also blown away! Don't classify myself as a Marlin "expert", but "interested amateur". My surprise at viewing such an era "Monte Carlo" beavertail style forend stock option Model 336 rifle available and as - if reading correctly - with or without stock checkering. A configuration I didn't know existed as factory original before seventies with the wild straight grip 444 Marlin introduction. I'm guessing they weren't popular or as not a fan of any Monte Carlo configurations on bolts or whatever, maybe combo of few and of so long ago I've just forgotten. At least not kicking myself for missing such a "collecting opportunity".

I'd appreciate any commentary from our 336 Forum experts concerning the prevalence of these MC stock editions. (Bring your 3x spectacles or magnifying glass!) My interest in when introduced & how long they were offered! I'm only in my eighties and I don't recall forgetting them! smile smile smile!

Again, Kudos to you Mr. B!
Best!

Spent many hours in my youth dreaming of faraway mountains and big game while staring at the pages of catalogs like that.

John, The add is from a '62 Shooters Digest. They actually have the price's reversed for the ADL and A. They were both rifles with 24 inch barrels. The difference was the stocks. The ADL had a checkered, monte carlo stock, made I believe by Bishop. The A had a plain stock, no monte carlo, and was cheaper. I have a pretty nice 336A, in .35 rem. The SC was the sporting carbine model, I also have one in .35 rem.
This is the SC[Linked Image from i.postimg.cc]

There aren't to many out there, I would think a really clean one would be worth some serious money!

I owned a 336 ADL in 32 Special for a very short time. I bought it at a friend's shop. A few days later he called me and said the previous owner, also a friend of mine really wanted it back bad. So I took it back to him.

I can remember $99 Marlin 336 and Winchester 94s at a local gun shop as a kid in the early 70s.
