Hello, I'm considering a McMillan stock for my long action Winchester. Does the Sako style Winchester hunter model handle recoil better than the factory Featherweight design? What about in comparison to the classic styled Edge stocks? Considering a Sako style with edge fill but not sure...

To clarify, one could answer either to the Sako Hunter/Featherweight comparison, or to the Sako Hunter/McMillan Hunter's Edge comparison.

Anyone?

Light rifles tend to kick harder than heavier ones . If you aren't adding any weight , you will be hard pressed to tell the difference !

So at a given weight there is no difference in felt recoil?

Actual recoil will be the same with identical rifles, except for the stock design. Felt recoil is another matter. The Sako Hunter is a forgiving stock design for felt recoil in my opinion. Whether it will feel better to you requires some speculation, but I know you'll not be dissatisfied with the Sako Hunter style.

Thanks for that. I'm really concerned with felt recoil. As Scottie says, "Ya cannochange the laws of physics!".

Might do up a .338 in the McMillan Hunter style.

Felt recoil is just another figment of gossip between people, similar to two guys smacking lips over the .270 or .308.

I will say this, "if" a stock can tame some recoil, the Sako hunter "could" do it to some degree, because,

It's a darn good stock with ergonomics that really help control the stock. The palm swell gives my hand such a positive grip on that stock, that it could help with recoil.

I'll leave it at this, The Sako hunter is my Favorite stock, you will like it..
