Does anyone have any information on a hunting lease in Kansas. I would prefer to be East of 135 and South of I-70.

Why bother? They have slightly over a million acres of free walk-in hunting open to the public. It's all ag land. I've lost track of all the whitetails I've killed on it. You can get the annual atlas online or pick them up at any courthouse or sporting goods outlet.

What is your budget? Personally living in the area you are talking about you are going to over pay for a lease with average deer.

I'm with Plainview on this one, you have just as good if not better odds for a really good deer on wiha's.

Most of the ground you are talking about has been hammered and if it's available, it is open for a reason.

There are places on wiha you can get a couple miles back or more off the road and you will find big deer.

FWIW I agree with the Walk In Hunting Area (WIHA) advice. You are going to pay a pretty penny for a lease if you can find one. I hunt the other side of the state but have killed some very nice mule deer and whitetail over the years off WIHA. Last season was my best deer ever. I shot a 175+ mule deer on opening day of rifle season. He was laying only about 30 yards off the road in tall grass on a WIHA. Saw his antlers sticking up when we drove by on the road. Could not believe he was there. Stalked in downwind of him for a quarter mile and waited him out. But, I could have literally pulled up on the road jumped out and shot him. Couldn't stomach doing that. Anyway, look into the WIHAs they are all over the state and some counties are absolutely covered with them. In western Kansas there are some that are a couple square miles of grass and draws. If you are willing to work a little and walk you can find great deer hiding back there because most guys are not willing too.

For those of you Kansas residents asking how an Okie got a mule deer tag, I was born and raised in Kansas. I have had a Kansas lifetime license for 20 + years. So, I am still blessed with resident status. Work transplanted me in Oklahoma. Still love coming home to hunt with friends and family!

Good hunting and be safe all.
