Thanks MD! It seemed odd given how the 185 and 160 TTSX shoot so well. Opposite ends of the spectrum. That little 160 TTSX just makes me laugh every time I shoot it. It's just not fair to have such a lightweight package shooting something over 3k that well.

Yeah, my rifle shoots that bullet very well too.

The .338 Federal, like the .358 Winchester, does a lot of work with that little case full of powder.

I could really like the Kimber version configured like a little sister to their Talkeetna chambered for these two. I'd likely take it in .358 for the broader spectrum of bullets myself, but in either it'd be a great little tool.

Kimber chambered the .338 Federal in the 84 for a little while, but apparently it didn't sell well enough to keep the chambering in the lineup. The rifle I've been shooting for several years is a Kimber 84 Classic, and with one of the new 3x20 Leupolds in Leupold mounts it weighs 6 pounds 2 ounces.

Is it as good as it reads?

I've nowhere near your expertise, but I'd really have to nitpick to find anything wrong with that configuration for deer and up for anything but VERY open country and long shots.

I think the 180gr Nosler or the 200gr fusion is where it's at with this cartridge. powdr

Rovering,

Yeah, it's pretty nice! It's not super tack-driver with most loads, due to the thin barrel with a fairly large hole, but it shoots accurately enough for any big game I'd hunt with the .338 Federal at any sane range for the round.

If you ever sell that rifle.....I'd like to get in line!

I enjoy handguns and I really like shotguns,...but I love rifles!
