That 8mm makes impressive holes in things though. I own a 06 and wanted a little more step up. I have a few irons in the fire. Currently adding a 338 win mag, and thinking about a .325 wsm or 8mm-06. No waiting if I purchase the Winny.
300 WSM slightly interests me but it throws the same 30 caliber bullet faster than my 06. Not sure if it is a caliber I need over the 06? I'm a huge 30-06 fan and have been since I was 12. With that being said, the 300 shortie is also one of my favorites. I consider it a souped up short 30-06. Of course, what one can do, the other can do just as well. One downfall to the 325 wsm is, ammo is going to be a lot harder to find than even the 300 wsm.
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

Lots of great 8mm bullets available for the hand loader. I really enjoy my .325

For myself if I ever want more than 30-06 performance in a bolt action the next logical step is the 375 h&h. 270gr sp or 260gr accubonds at around 26-2700 fps is a very mild kicking but devastating on big game load.

Matt, I like your way of thinking. However I consider the next logical step up to be the 338 win mag. That's why I was trying to talk you into the M77 MKII I had. That rifle is extremely accurate and puts big game (elk) down with authority.. I cans see the 325 wsm being in the same league as the good ol 338..

Does not compare to killing an elk but killed couple moose with a 325 wsm. Using 200gr accubonds...

My friend has a Browning BLR in 325 WSM; he uses 200 gn Accubonds. I was just talking to him yesterday and he was all disgusted that the 325 WSM had been discontinued across the board, ammo and rifles. He is an FFL Dealer.

That's kind of what I was getting at in a previous post. Ammo's hard enough to find for the regular cartridges. However, it's probably pretty hard to find stuff like my cherished 9.3x62mm as well. That's one of the reasons we handload isn't it ...It's hell being a rifle loony isn't it..

He can always rebarrel a 06 to 8mm! Not exactly the WSM but still shoots the 8mm bullets.
I imagine he would be able to neck up 300 WSM brass without too much of an issue? That was my plan?

Gave up on the bedding venture huh my friend. When I shoot 10 shot groups, I shoot but I keep an eye on the wind. If I'm waiting anymore than about 30 seconds between shots, I'd be surprised. I've shot with guys that shoot 3 shots and then wait 10 minutes and then shoot another 2 for a 5 shot group. I've never done that. Seems pretty pointless to me...Here's a FN 300 wsm that had a fluted barrel like the EW. It shot pretty good: However, my non fluted barrel on my CZ 550 American shoots better.... No didn't give up on it I bedded two more rifles since my 270 Weatherby and 25-06. Just don't see a need to mess with it since it shoots pretty good. I have a junk ass ol Leupold 3-9x33 on it I need to get a better scope looking at getting a Bushnell Banner for it. Whats straightened ammo,if I could ask?

You want impressive? Several years ago, I turned a big fat doe a complete somersault with a 200 Speer from a .338-06 to the back of the head. No edible meat damage. JACK

Well it was a day of shooting big bores that pushed me to the 375. Reflex264 aka my buddy Roy who doesn't post here much any more had me over for a day of shooting and had 356winchester 338 win mag 450marlin 375h&h and a 416 Rigby for me to play with. I found the recoil from the 375 much more to my likening than the 338 win mag. It was just a big push like shooting a 45/70. My body seems to handle that much better than the sharper faster kick of the 338.
