I'm hoping that if I buy a .270 and do some 'actual hunting', I'll learn the meaning of life as we know it.

Tanner don't be so sensitive... No one gets their panties wadded when Dogshooter calls Nosler Partitions "beer cans", do they? I think it's funny. RinB is busting balls and stirring pots to bait people. You might want to listen to what he has to say. He's killed more BG animals in more places with more rifles than 99% on here have even seen to shoot at.

I know that, and I know Billy has killed lots of schidt too. I just thought the actual hunting thing was kinda' funny.
I've gotta' get my digs in while I can, I leave in less than 2 weeks to go actual hunting for 2 months straight!

The number of "long range" guns coming out from makers simply means they can get a good deal of money out of folks who feel that type of gun is required. What's more interesting to me is that to shoot past 450 yards it's more about the bullet ..... Oh wait we have long range bullets too. - scratch that . So then it comes down to what percentage of people have access to a 500 plus yard range - now we are in low, low numbers again. I say this because most people never shoot at anything but the 100 yard target and are stupified when they see the drop in their own WSM at 300 yards, these folks are a long way from reaching "long range" that requires "more" gun..

Some of those range king rifles belong to guys that don't even hunt! And even more guys that, if they do hunt, they don't eat the meat. Or their wife refuses to cook it, so they make it all into jerky. Even saw a girl with one once. She was a darn good shot! I would rather have those guys at my range than the hunters that only show up once a year, with duct tape along for anything that doesn't work right.

I never called them a beer can.... I have more respect for beer than that.
I loved Frenchie's "actual hunting" comment.... it was dripping with ignorance. Anyone who's done any "actual hunting" in more than one place..... knows you can't tell anyone else how to "actually hunt".
It's like telling someone how to have "actual sex" with an "actual woman". What works for me (being handsome, charming, and witty) may not work for you.... unless you're Bob. You might need to get them drunk, or lie, or pay for it, or nurture the pig for days.... who knows? All I'm saying is, there's no need to big game cock-block because somebody has different game than you.... as long as they're not slipping the deer a roofie.
You better pray to the God of Skinny Punks that this wind doesn't pick up......

Of the 19 deer I have shot, the median range is about 400 yards. My brother hunts the same area and his shots are closer to 100 yards.
We have different target practice regimes and different hunting methods. I like to find a herd and sneak up on them the next day before dawn, stalk to 400 yards on the range finder, adjust the elevation turret, and shoot from a bipod. When he shoots deer, elk, or antelope, he is always close to his vehicle.
