I have an original vanguard long action in a mcmillan stock. I have no use for the caliber that it's in for the forseeable future. I have not looked at the new S2 vanguards. Anyone know if that would be a direct drop for the action or possibly even the barrel cotour?

I've looked at the S2. The only difference other than cosmetics that I can see is a 3 position safety vs the older 2 position. The Howa's have been using the 3 position safety and Vanguard stocks fit them. There might need to be a little stock trimming around the safety, but I'm 99% sure the stocks will interchange.

Minor variation between identical production rifles would require rebedding to make a perfect fit. Production stocks are loose enough to fit every one, but if the recoil lug has contact, whether that would make a difference at the range would have to be tested. The barrel should be floating anyway.

.300 win mag and I'll probably keep it. It really suprised me how well it shot. I got the vanguard in trade ad stuck it in the mcmillan. Only shot 20 rounds thru it, cheap federal blue box and it was always right at an inch.
