I've read here and there that Swarovski has replaced the old plex reticle with a thicker version.

None of the LGS stock Swarovski, so I'm hoping someone might be able to provide a pic of the old vs. new version.

They need to do the same with the Z6 plex reticle too.

Swarovski Customer Service is your friend - 800-426-3089.

Give them a call and report back - it'll save a lot of conjecture.

My Z3 duplex isn't bad, about like a VX-3 duplex, neither as good as a VX-6.

My Z5 duplex was so thin as to not be useable for my kinda hunting, at least in my opinion. I sent it back to Swaro for a #4. It's better, but the fine wires are pretty fine.

Can't comment on the Z6; don't have one.

The old plex has been changed with a thicker plex reticle. Sent three scopes back to have them add the heavier plex reticle. Two on Z5's and one on a Z6.

It is aggravating to pay a premium price for a premium scope, then have to pay even more to make it useable.

My next Swaro will likely be a VX-6... grin

No problem with that Duplex. And the glass quality, IMO, is somewhere between a Z5 and a Z6, probably closer to the Z6.

I've compared my VX-6 2-12x42 with my Z3 4-12x50 BT and my Z5 3.5-18x44 BT and the VX-6 to me is the winner. And the Swaro scopes are very good, the VX-6 is just better. I don't have a Z6 to compare it to, but my Zeiss Victory doesn't really seem any better than the VX-6.

No elaborate testing protocol, just my best guestimate from looking thru and using these scopes.

Dirtfarmer,

Thanks for that educated opinion. I'm having real trouble with confidence in my z5. If it wasn't for its "light" weight of 18.1 ounces it would be gone. It might not go back on my 6.5SLR when I switch out the barrel of the .257SLR. The VX6 4-24X might be the one.

Jetbrook, are you able to comment on the new Swarovski reticle vs the VX6 reticle?

I recently just purchased a VX6 and have not compared them. The new Swarovski reticle does compare to the Zeiss #20 reticle. Will compare the three of them tonight and let you know.
