Or, maybe even a couple of coupla' C notes?

Put a set of decent tires on it and when it gets to 150k you're going to think,Damn that $1500 was money well .spent

Could be a caliper, but we find more that have bad brake hoses that collapse internally and keeps the fluid from returning. Question, why does it need a distributor and a carb rebuild or replacement?

Sorry, I didn't read all of the thread. As mentioned, check the acel. pump. I don't know your skill, but a timing light is cheap and if you know how to use it, you can check if both the centrifugal and vacuum advance work. Sounds like your mechanic friends are like gun range gunsmiths. Talk alot and know very little.

I drive all old stuff. I have 2 84 chevy 2500s an 89 k5. And a 93 chevy 2500 with almost 300k on it.
Old dodges are pretty good trucks and will last along time. Think about a truck payment and full coverage insurance.. That buys a lot of gass. And guess what a new truck eats gas too.
Here is a hint to help with carb issues. Either drive it more or buy non ethanol gas or use ethanol stabilizer.
If it were a chevy I would say put a TBI on it. But I don't know how comparable dodge is on swapping out to newer stuff. I am betting you can find out..

Remember the newer it is the more expensive it is to work on.
Any one here had to Change plugs on a ford f150 from a few years back.
I hear they have to pull the cab and hear horror stories about stripped threads in the head..
Computers are not cheap either. There is a reason old trucks bring a premium on the used market.

When I bought it for $500 it was in decent shape as it was garage kept with absolutely no rust. Now it has surface rust as I live close enough to the beach to get a little bit of salt spray.

Out of those 4 years I have had to put a new rotor, cap, plugs, and wires on. As well as had the front break lock up so I had to replace the rotor and pads. So all in all I have only put around $200 plus fuel (8mpg average).

Now I am at a cross roads, it needs a new distributor, carb rebuilt/replaced, and new tires. I will probably put a new caliper on the front as I don't know why it locked up in the first place.

So I am trying to figure out what to do. Do I put $1500 into it to make it last a few more years. Or would you sell it for $500+ and along with the $1,500, I would have spent on it, start shopping for a replacement. Probably another early 90's 3/4ton.

What to do?

Location? For $500, I might come get it.

I can/have done everything outside the motor on my rigs. I don't know gas engines that well. I have worked on marine diesels a fair amount.

Today I figured that I would keep it and pick up the parts to rebuilt the accelerator pump. Figure if I can't get it I will call a friend that knows what he is doing.

I also had my alternator die today. So I spent $80 at autozone on a new alternator, belts and a carb rebuild kit. I will see how far it gets me.
