If it is going to be carried at all, there is no way I would go above #3 contour. A #2 contour saves you a rebarrel cost! grin

You started out wanting a rifle that kicked less so you can shoot it more, and that's not a bad idea, but with all this thinking and figuring you are doing, you are going to end up with a heavy rifle that is going to be about the same as the other rifles you already have.

Since you originally were thinking about a 260, you might consider just picking up a RAR Compact in 6.5 Creed or 7-08 and a case of ammo and put the money left over into glass and try to burn the barrel out.

You'll have a light, handy rifle, not much recoil, and more than accurate enough and well beyond what should be expected for the cost.

The Ruger American Rifle--every American should own one.

Do you have a target weight for your rifle?

So true, or the expense to have the barrel turned down like I am thinking of doing to my Micky Coleman built .280AI. Should have got the #2B from Bartlein. But I was in a all fired hurry and ordered a #3 from Grizzly.

If I wanted a 280 AI - I would buy a 7 Rem Mag in a Tikka T3 or Wby S2.

Just me. Anything close in cartridge and or contour I would buy. If I want a unique round ie 6.5x47 I build. Or contour like my mid weight light Palma fluted.

There was a time funds were more plentiful, allowing more "research" smile

Good luck with your new rifle.

Clos I did the same thing and bought the 3 Bartlein from Grizzly and should have waited for a 2b. Shoots well from the bench though😊

I do #3 contour for 7mmRemMag, which is right next to a 280AI.

I can keep it in a 12" kill zone out to 500 yards, when the wind is still at sun up.

Three-contour works best for a rifle that you're going to carry afield.

Beware the Bartlein #3. It is much heavier than most.

3 max...and then you are going to end up at, or probably over, 8.5# all up with a 13oz scope and Talleys

Agree...might want to look at the 2B contour, just a little lighter.
