Guys I have a Marlin 1893 in 30-30. Ser# D 3993. I believe it has a 26 inch Oct barrel and all original. It also has a star stamped in the lower tang under the lever. What does that mean? Could someone please tell me when it was made? A photo of it is on the savage collectors forum under Old Savages. Thanks!

What gives? All guys want to do is buy this rifle but no one will tell me anything about it? Is that star under lever a proof mark?Custom order? Hmmm.... And I just cleaned up a really crazy Marlin! Its an 1892 ser# 54000 in 32 long/short. I guess you can fire both center and rim by changing out firing pin. Was told it was made in 1893? V neat rifle.
