Just relocated in the North Florida area and looking for advice on a Hog Hunting outfitter. Never hunted hogs or in the south for that matter. Looking for something spot and stalk with rifle or muzzleloader. Any tips on what to expect, or to prepare for would be great, best time of the year, etc. Most of my hunting experience has been in the Northeast and Alaska.

Similar to deer hunting. You can hunt a food plot or stalk through the palmettos listening for hogs fighting, rooting, and eating?
Florida I would imagine a thermacell or bug netting required? Hot weather means the hogs have to stay near water or they die, since they do not sweat.
Wild hog makes great table fare.

Thanks, have no idea what a thermacell is but keep hearing them mentioned, gonna have to do some google research.
How about shot placement? Ive heard lowxand tight to the front shoulder. 30-06 and deer bullet (150-180 cup n core) should do?

Thermacell is a repellent. Gas propelled via small canister and battery operated fan. works quite well

Yes know the shot placement hog vitals sit low and forward compared to a deer. You could shoot it on the shoulder if you like to immobilize it. Any cup/core bullet for a deer will work fine on a pig, so whichever grain shoot best in your gun. I usually use a 165/168 grain bullet, only because it shoots the best in my particular firearm. A 150 will work.

I have killed a bunch of hogs in N Fl. A thermacell is a must. If I forget mine, I go home. A good pair of rubber boots make a big difference walks no in the swamps. Don't get to hung up on which gun to use. Hogs aren't hard to kill. I've probably killed 50 with a .223. A good bonded bullet helps though.

If Montana had a standing army, a 270 Win with Federal Blue Box 130's would be the standard issue.

Shoot'em in the neck or the head. .223 will work.

They are not deer and don't shoot them like you would deer. Okie John and Stone cutter have given good advice. On Texas Boars you'll find a diagram of hog anatomy that is a big help. I shoot them in front of the shoulder, the neck, and the head. The caliber has never been all that important for me, shot placement is everything. When I first started I shot them like a deer. I'm sure they died and I'm sure the gators enjoyed them, they run off into the swamp and can't be tracked because the fat seals off any blood trail or there is no trail in the water. It's fun you'll like it, just need to adapt a little. I hunt in Texas in February just to avoid the skeeters and the snakes. "Let go of my ear, it tickles!" A good night.
The older I get the better I was.
