Mr New Orleans Chris: perhaps if you could share the basis for your opinion, it could result in some profitable dialog.

wincraper can never compete with those rifles. They are well built. Of course thats just my opinion and it is biased since I HATE wincrapers.

And you're an idiot.

I'm probably just paranoid but I suspect the 2008 Winchesters could set the price point for the rest of these brands as well. That 600 dollar Ruger may cost you 800 bucks in 08.

Crap, my paranoia is leading to RAD (Rifle Acquisition Disorder). I really need a 30-06 before the prices go up. grin

I no longer feel guilty about turning a perfectly good M-70 SS Classic 7Rem into a Lilja barreled 257 Wby.

All is good as long as you give us updates on the progress on that new rifle project of yours. grin A stainless 257 ROY wrapped in a nice Featherweight stock would look too good. . .

Wish the featherweight was just that. Lite as a feather. .280, 338 federal, 257 Rob, 7x57. Might get me to bite. We'll have to see.

It is a "good" thing though!!!

Just sold one in -06. It was the best gun I ever owned to date!

I feel a case of RAD coming on and the only cure will be a new ss 30 06.

They need a 22" stainless 458 Win Mag with a trim stock.

What we will get are 300WSM's.

I just returned from Utah where I saw and shot the new Model 70s. I was impressed with the improvements. The trigger was really nice, and I like the models they chose to bring out. I asked when the Safari Express would return. They said "maybe in 2009." I have a feeling it depends on how quickly they are able to get production up once they start.

You make a point. From what I recall of the late M70 'Featherweights' is that they were not nearly as light as the pre 64's of which I have a few. The barrels seemed heavier in diameter and the old ones had alum. bottom metal. They are not nearly as light as they could be and are too much gun for a 308 round if indeed you really want a light rifle. A Kimber in 308 weights 5.1#!! What did a late M70 'Featherweight' weigh? Maybe 7 lbs.? Maybe more? I do give them that the stocks were trimmer and good looking except for the black paint on the last ones.

If I buy another new M70 its going to have to be nice as I am using quite a few of the old ones. I would like to have another 243 however and it would be a walking varminter. It would not need to be a lightweight either.

Huntr-

I was about to ask the same question but more out of habit than expectation.

I saw some of the "old" 70's -lefties- in the Sioux Falls Scheels marked down to $650.
