Hi What is your favourite bullet weight and powder for the 300 WBY? Thanks
IMR-7828 has given good accuracy and velocities. Easily getting 3250 fps with 168 gr TTSX and 2975 fps with 200 gr Nosler partitions in our 24" M-700s. The 150 gr TTSX was also very accurate, but the 175 gr LRX not so much.
I've used IMR-4350 as well. Great accuracy, and .300 Win velocities.
180gr Cutting Edge Lazer seated to 3.765" OAL over 80gr RL23.
3190 fps from a 23" barrel and shoots in the .3s.
My chamber is cut with a .165 freebore so a factory throat would likely need a couple extra grains of powder to match speed..
It has been quite a while but in my 300 Weatherby days it was a 180 on top of the original long stick IMR 7828.
I load 150 Barnes with 80 grains of IMR 4350
180 grain TTSX over a caseful of H1000, Federal magnum rifle primer, Weatherby cases. 3.590" OAL in a Model 70.
Regular TSX worked just as well.
Yes, or 180's (yawn). 84 grains will do wonders..
H4831 w/180gr hornady spire point. I shoot model 70 stainless classic.
H4831 w/180gr hornady spire point. I shoot model 70 stainless classic.
I shoot pre 64 model 70..
I use RL-26 and a 180 grain Nosler Partition. IIRC the velocity is 3200 fps from the 26" barrel.

We are all proud of you tiger.. here’s a cookie..
I shot a couple Kleinguenthers, but sold them, now shoot a 700 classic. I want a cookie too.
84.5 gr IMR 7828, 180 gr runs 3200 in my 26” barrel

+1
I use this load with 180gr Nosler Partitions - it’s a pretty sweet load & shoots nice.
For a deer load, a starting to mid power charge of 70-72 grs of IMR 4350 with a 168 Ballistic Tip, Norma cases and a Federal 215 works really well and gave me 2900 fps and 1/2-3/4”, three shot groups.
I load 80gr. RL22 with a 180gr. Speer Grand Slam for my wife's uncle's Mark V. It isn't a max load, but very accurate.
I also messed with 84gr. of RL22 with a 168gr. TTXS. Accurate, but he likes the 180gr. load better.
7828 with anything from 150-200 grains
H4831 w/180gr hornady spire point. I shoot model 70 stainless classic.
I shoot pre 64 model 70..

Holy chidt. Get with the fu cking program.. Try some IMR 7828 and quit fn around. You good at sucking hind tit with your buddies.. Those in the know have been using that powder for decades and don't have to pretend..
Unfortunately you will not match Weatherby factory ammo. They use a blended powder and will not give up the formula.
Old Wby catalogs had data with pressures for IMR-4350, 4831 (the surplus data powder Jack used), and N-205. The data was plenty close enough to factory.
IMR-7828 has the slower 4831 (surplus data powder) burn rate that IMR-4831 and later Hodgdon 4831 lack. Newer powders can do about the same, but IMR-7828 is a no-brainer.
It drives 200 gr NPs to 2975 from 24" barrels......not exactly slackin'.
300 Weatherby Remington 700 Classic 200 grain Nosler Partition, Primer 215, 78.2 grains of RE 26,-- 0.66 MOA -- three groups of four shots average
300 Weatherby Remington 700 Classic 200 grain Nosler Partition, Primer 215, 78.2 grains of RE 26,-- 0.66 MOA -- three groups of four shots average
There ain’t nothing that’ll stand up to that. Excellent load.

while I download much of my ammo, more tailored to fitting the game and the distance it'll be shot out..
But I figure if you are needing a magnum, you might as well make it a magnum...
so 83 grains of H1000, with a 220 grain Partition or a good old 220 gr RN, either Sierra or Hornady...
even at 300 yds, when I've shot a steel target at 300 yds at our local range.... the 'clang' is loud enough, that it gets the attention of the other shooters at the benches.
The few times its been used on bigger game, it drops them on the spot...
its pretty darn accurate also....
Shot a 3/4” group with my dads 300 wby today, 168 TTSX on top of 84 grains on RL 19.
83 gr R22 under a 168 TTSX for 3270 FPS.
One of my hunting buddies who doesn't reload needed a light, no lead load for our small California deer. The rifle is a Japanese made Weatherby MK5 "lightweight" w/ a 22" barrel (I know; why?). After some testing, the best load was a 150TSX, 81.5 gr. H4831SC, FED215, Remington case @ ~3100fps. This is the starting load from the Barnes #4 manual. So far it's accounted for 3 bucks, all were dead right there. No bullets recovered. He is thrilled with this combo now. Shoots about a 1.25-1.5", 3 shot group and consistently holds zero after some bedding work and installing Talley LW rings.-Mark&Belle
Several years ago I did a little reloading for Robert Kleinguenther. I would think he would know a little about wby cartridges. He liked 7828 with 180 Hornady flat base bullets. Hasbeen
RL22 or 7828 and 200 partitions or 180TSX
Nasty on anything.
84 gr R22 under a 168 TTSX gets around 3270 FPS in my M70 classic.
I use RL-26 in Wby cases, 215M primer, 168 TTSX at 3,300 fps. Shoots under an inch. I used MagPro with good results at 3,320 fps but the RL-26 tightened the groups up a bit and lost about 20 fps.
