I picked a couple of boxes of the new Hornady GMX bullets some 130 grain for the .270 win and some 165 grain for my .300wsm. haven't had the chance to work up any loads yet....frankly have not heard much talk about these.....either on game or how they shoot......anyone else heard much?

I just loaded sixty 165 gr hornady gmx at 74.1 grains with imr 4350. It kinda scared me a little cause the bullets where a about 7/16 inch longer that my sst's therefore they hit my powder when loading them. Not sure how they are gonna fire but i am gonna test them tommorow and will give some feed back. That is if they dont blow back in my face. This is the loadout i used for my 300 win mag. for the 165 sst's and was achieving 3250 ft per sec. chronoed.

I have loaded the 165 GMX in my son's 300 WSM. 68 grains of RL-17 load data from the Alliant web site. 68 was the max and with a speer bullet so work up towards it. Great accuracy and all the speed that Alliant claims for the load a little over 3200 fps.

My hunting partner shooting Horady's Superformace 165 GMX load out of his 300 Win mag did this last october

Tried them in my 270 Tikka M65 . On paper they shot sub minute out to 200 meters. didn't shoot any game with them, but cannot see why they won't do the business if placed in the right spot.
Load was the same as for my other 130 gn projectiles.
Shot well in front of H4350 and 2213sc. No pressure signs, but I did not exceed listed max loads.

They've performed well for me on paper so far, but I haven't killed anything with them yet.
Loaded up 150 gr. GMX for my Finnlight 300 WSM was very accurate around 3110 fps with 64.2 gr. of Big Game. Waiting on some superformace powder to try them with.

Only thing I got to shoot with it was a head shot on a med. size doe.
I loaded up the 130gr in my 270 and they shot MOA with vertually not work up. All I have killed with them was a hog at 150 yards, it was a head shot though right in the forehead no exit and no digging for the bullet.

I shot a doe with one and posted this thread. They aren't fragmentation grenades like a lot of ballistic tips but they fully penetrate.

I've killed 6 deer with them (139 grain, 7mm Rem Mag). All were one shot kills that exited, but all were also high shoulder shots that left the deer in question with no choice but to drop.

The GMX is a highly controlled-expansion bullet that will make small holes on both sides. It's best placed in the shoulder where the relatively hard bullet has something to work against. Like with the Barnes, you can load a lighter bullet that you'd otherwise select for a given species, as it's just not going to come apart, no matter how fast you push it.

It is, hands down, the most accurate bullet out of my 7mm Mag. The group below is five shots (following an adjustment), and it's factory Hornady Custom ammo. If I wanted one bullet to hunt everything from deer to black bear to elk with the same gun, the GMX would probably be it.
