Had a neighbor who was a big reloader and passed away recently. Very organized guy. His wife gave me some loaded 30/06 rounds he did

1- 20 grains of green dot over a 120 grain lead bullet

2 - 13 grains of green dot over 120 grain lead bullet

What do you guys think of these ??? He was old and recoil shy.

I wouldn't shoot them.

Someine else's reloads for a gun other than mine.... Ain't happening
Pull the bullets, dump the powder.

If you are looking for reduced recoil loads, check an old Speer manual. Or load H4895 to 60% of max.

It’s probably 300/400 rounds.
Buy a Hornady cam lock bullet puller. You can pull 400 bullets in a couple hours.

Unknown powder makes good lawn fertilizer.

I wouldn’t shoot another person’s reloads

You never know if they guy was a drunk or totally distracted when reloading. Not worth the chance in my book.

Pull the bullets and reload with known quantity of powder.

Rifle loads with quick burning shotgun powders can quickly get overpressure.

For example, 20 grains of green dot and a 125 bullet is roughly 41kpsi; 30 grains is 74kpsi (and not even a full case).

All is takes is one round out of the 300/400 to accidentally have 30 grains and you have a big problem.

Yep, what they said.

There's 5-6 pounds of lead in those bullets. A caster would like to have them to melt down and may even pay you for it or swap you something in return. Your flower beds will like the gunpowder fertilizer. You can then run the cases into a sizing die (minus the decapping rod) to true them up and then reload them with your powder/bullet of choice.

Ok. I don’t reload so I’ll find someone to take these. Shame.
I would not even go THERE.

If the next guy blows up a rifle, and loses an eye, you are complicit.

At least that is the way I would look at the situation. If I could not break down the cartridges, I would make sure they ended up in a landfill somewhere.

Ammo loaded by someone else are a potential risk just not worth taking
Posted By: flintlocke Re: 30/06 new guy questions - 12/30/19
Agree above....Also 20 grains of Green Dot...I think is in excess of 45,000 cup...vel prolly in excess of 2000fps, gulp. A little too perky. 13 gr is a published load, 1800 fps, 31,000 cup.

We can close this thread. I’m not shooting them.

Don’t give them away, either.

Double charge is 117K PSI.
You should probably turn these in to the police bomb squad. You might want to hire a pair of escort vehicles with flashing lights and warning signs to precede and follow you there.

Buy a Grip-N-Pull and pull them all. I think the bullets were probably over the powder, not the other way around.

I've given a couple classes on basic reloading at the gun club I belong to and the people will ask what it takes to start reloading. I always tell them to go out and buy a stuck case remover and a a impact bullet puller and have them in their hands before they get any other reloading equipment. Also, don't shoot any cartridge that you don't know *****1000%**** what is in it.

Someone will buy them for the brass
