Friends, I am doing another run of +P heavy duty .45 ACP outdoors oriented/bear defense ammo. This is produced in excellent Starline brass. I am waiting on the main batch of components but had enough to do a very small run, so I have just 8 100 round boxes at this time ready to go.

This ammo is a 250 grain hardcast flatpoint, with a large flat meplat. It is pretty warm for a 45 ACP, averaging 956 FPS out of my 5" Les Baer.

Chronograph data below

+P 45ACP 250 grain Hardcast Flatpoint:

Baer 1911 5" BBL velocity avg: 956

S&W 4506 5" BBL velocity avg: 958

HK USP 4.41" BBL Velocity avg: 932

Glock 21 4.61" BBL velocity avg 920

Glock 30S 3.78" BBL velocity avg 861.

In the G30S with its skinny slide, the rounds were pretty snappy in terms of felt recoil.

While I did some T&E using a G30S, I think this is best reserved for larger, full sized platforms. The G30S with its skinny slide is a handful.

If I was going to use these in my own G30S, I would get a heavier recoil spring.

The Glock 21 gobbles them up, as does the HK USP.

A lot of .45 Colt/.44 Special revolver shooters (Handgun Hunters) shoot a load that is a duplicate of this. This load was tested in a Glock 21, Glock G30S compact, 2 different 5" 1911s, an S&W 4506, and an HK USP.

I have to say that this has quickly become my favorite heavy duty .45 load. If I was stuck with one "all around" hunting/defense load, this would definitely be it.

These will ship to your door for $110. That works out to about $45 per 50 rounds after shipping and insurance.

I was discussing this load elsewhere not too long ago and this is essentially a duplicate of the Linebaugh classic .45 Colt hunting load.

Here is a cut and paste from that discussion:

I think most people do not recognize/understand the capability of the .45. Part of that has to do with the fact that outside of custom manufacturers, there is almost no ammo available for the .45 ACP that is allowing it to be used to its full potential.

The 10mm is recognized for its ability, and it has a well deserved reputation. That said people really do not know much about the capabilities of a proper .45 load. Oddly enough, as this is being written, I am loading what I consider to be the ideal .45 ACP load that is appropriate for .45s in proper working order/properly maintained, with good springs.

That is a 250 grain hard cast flat point at a shade past 950 FPS.

In a bunch of testing the load averaged 956 out of 5" barreled 1911s.

People associate powerful .45 loads with revolvers, not autos...

Many recognize the power of the excellent .45 Colt.

John Linebaugh wrote the following:

I have personally taken about 10 antelope and 1 mule deer with a .45 Colt. My boys have taken around 6 antelope and 5 mule deer with their .45 Colts. They use a 4 3/4" Colt SA and the handload is a 260 Keith cast at 900 fps. This load will shoot lengthwise of antelope and mule deer at 100 yards.

A 45 caliber 260grain hardcast @ 900 FPS has a well deserved reputation as an excellent game stopper. Using the standard USPSA power factor formula of bullet weight x velocity divided by 1K you get a power factor of 234.

In the same 45 caliber (this time a semi auto platform) we are launching a 250 grain bullet at 956 for a power factor of 239.

Basically, you are getting the same type of power, simply in a much easier to shoot semi auto platform.

Personally, I don't care much about "formulas", I just use it as an easy reference for folks to compare.

The fact is that a hot, heavy hardcast .45 ACP is a rather formidable setup, and one that I carry often in the mountains.

This last hiking season I spent a substantial amount of time in grizzly and black bear country and this is the load I carried when I carried a .45, which was quite frequently. I tend to switch between the 10mm and the .45, but I find that the 1911 gets carried most often due to the fact it conceals better for those trips into town.

I currently have 8-100 round boxes (MTM hardside plastic boxes) ready to go.

I only have the 8 and I do not have an ETA on more right now.

Anyways, as stated above, the price is $110 per 100 round box (shipped ground UPS)
.

I take venmo, USPS Money order, or checks (once cleared by the bank). I do not take paypal.

You have to be 21 since it is handgun ammo. Will only ship to places where legal and it is your responsibility to know your local laws. No shipping to restricted states or jurisdictions. CONUS only, and I do not ship to, MA, DC, CT, CA or other locations with restrictions.

If you would like some, please post the amount in this thread, followed by a PM.

THANK YOU!!

If they don't sell out quickly, I will take a second box. Wanted to give others a chance first.

Sidebar discussion:

Ive had a good number of PMs texts, etc asking about springs, weights etc. Both with the heavy .45 loads and 10mms. The loads were designed around firearms that have been properly maintained and using factory spec springs (that are not worn out). An example being a 17# spring in a 1911. That said, If you are intending to shoot a bunch of heavy loads in a semi, it is a good idea to put a heavier recoil spring in.

I recommend both the Wilson and Wolff gun springs. I run a 20# spring in the G20/21 when I intend to shoot more than a magazine full of stuff through the platform. Wolff sells a kit that comes with the spring and new guide rod that drops right in. This helps lessen the wear on the gun, and reduces the felt recoil to the shooter, allowing faster recovery between shots, which is/can be quite important for a pistol carried in the field.

Thanks all.

Oh yes!

Speaking of getting your attention..

JWP475 sent me a pic of the heavy +P 9mm hardcast load I produce. They run 1100 FPS with a 148 grain hardcast flatpoint. ( I am currently out of at the moment. ) I have tested them on steer heads as well as some car doors and auto safety glass and it penetrates very well. He shot them through some 1/8th inch steel plate.:

That was shot out of my Sig P365XL with 3.7" barrel @ 1062 FPS. This is the only +P 9mm load that has penetrated this plate.
Very accurate in my pistols and my daily carry load.
Chrono's 1120 FPS out of my 4.7" barrel P320
I'll take 100 - PM to follow...
I'm in for 100. Will send you a PM now, thanks
Would they be ok for a S&W Shield?
J Gray and Long Arm

I have you each for 100.

Mike 78.

The S&W Shield is a pretty small, light gun and in testing these loads in the G30S which is a lighter. thinner slide version of a standard G30 (which in itself is a shorter length slide version of a full size G21) I found the recoil to be quite snappy and very much a handful. While the brass did not give me indications of unlocking early or what people refer to as "smiles" (bulges in the brass), I felt that if I was going to use this load in the compact G30S, I would opt for heavier springs. Frankly I think this is a load best reserved for full sized framed gun/Commander sized guns.

In short, I cannot recommend it for use in a Shield unless I have personally tested the loads in one, which I have not.

Thanks.
100 rounds remain
I love 9mm version of this load and I have purchased 700 rds.

Yep JWP

I really like that 9mm load, and switched out to carrying it even in town when all the rioting started happening here a while back. Figured if I needed to shoot through things to protect myself/family, then it would be a solid choice. cool

Sheepdog,

If nobody grabs the last 100 in the next couple hours, they are yours. Thanks for your willingness to "spread the love!" LOL

I also use them as my daily carry round
I'd like 100 if there are any left.
I’d like 100 when these are available again.

And THANKS to SHEEPDOG for offering to opt for 100 rounds this go round so others could try them!

CHEERS ALL!
Guess I was too late. Let me know if you do another run. Just got the 10mm JHP today.

Steve
Yeah, you watch a football game and the next thing you know.....

When you produce more, I'll take a hundred.

Thanks,

MS
You interested in trades for some once fired brass??? Out of curiosity what powder types are you using? Mind sharing some load data? Last when will you be producing any rifle ammunition? Thanks!

You guys are keeping me hopping!

I will let you guys know when I get another shipment of .45 components in and do a run. This heavy .45 load has been extremely popular, which is funny as when you read elsewhere the gun world (articles) will tell you that the .45 ACP is dead. HA!
Ok man I have 4 used tires I can throw into the deal as well…
