Used to be able to check in the morning and in the evening and have a chance to find things you were looking for. Now you compete with the businesses that are running a computer program or an app on their phone that notifies them every time a new item is listed.
Even though I haven't been on the Forum as long as some.
I understand what your saying.
Everything, in life has changed so much.
Even this too!

How do you do that? I've not been able to figure it out. Where's the link?
Been here since 2000. May have missed a few things I would have been interested in. But still get and give what is needed!
The biggest difference I notice is the amount of drama that happens both within threads and posted topics. And I’m not referring to this post in any backhanded way. I was very active for a lot of years and then backed way off several years ago for a variety of reasons not related specifically to the forum. I’ve since started reading and engaging again and it’s different across the board than it used to be. Sometimes it feels more like a drama-loaded Facebook group than the ‘fire I remember. But I’m probably wearing rose-colored glasses.

Have to disagree.....I'm one of the ole farts here......

To admit....I've sold more stuff here than I've bought

You have a one real dick head here...he'll offer you half your asking price.....

Just learn to ignor him

You'll get guys that have to ask the wife if it's OK to spend $100 on the 'Fire

The ads on the fire still offer good values & never had any real issues

If you screw a Fire member.......they'll drag your azz across the coals

Oh by the way...I still have that 1977 Marlin 45-70 F/S
I see more NEW Gun show prices! Sad!
works just fine for me

Follow the forum- ribbon looking thing at top between New Thread and Hop To. Go to preferences- click on your name at top right and then preferences. Choose yes for getting anything added to your Followed Lists emailed to you.

I can't fathom wanting to get that much email though.
Also have to take into account that for the past couple years guns and supplies have been limited and more expensive.
People want to hold on to their crap tighter than before, and are more aggressive about finding what they need.
I wish there were selling categories. Just saw athletic pants next to a rifle.
WAY different than it used to be. We now have a lot more classified cowboys and dealers with gun show prices. I get it they are just trying to make a living and have every right to be here. But it is WAY different than it used to be. I did have an old time member sell me a box and a half of Barnes TTSXs a while back for, i know was less than he had into them. Didn't need them anymore so when i posted a looking for add he passed them along. Still a few guys around like that but MANY more would of asked two times what they are new. And ya if someone puts something on at a good price, if you can't respond right away, forget it. But hey don't worry it'll be back on in a few days for double. No it's nothing like it used to be.
Has that f|_|cking pop up advertisement always been here? Its getting to be quite intrusive and annoying. Almost as annoying as the tools who will spout off about pop up blocking apps as soon as I finish typing this
What happened to the emails notifications you use to get on followed posts and PM notices?

I think it’s because of the general lack of gun related products available and high prices. People scoop up anything and everything at prices that would have never worked pre-Covid.

I still get pm emails just fine. Maybe because I use an ad blocker. grin
My only complaint is the new guys with low post counts have "NO" communication manners. They send PM'S with no name to reference a proper reply.

I sold 3 die sets in December and received several messages asking "If the die's were in good shape". Really???

i helped one campfire member needing shotgun hulls and added extra hulls and factory folded boxes
for 20 gauge and Winchester factory folded 28 gauge boxes.....NOT EVEN A PM OR TEXT..... Thank you. I gave him the hulls and just charged for the shipping. 28 gauge hulls are hard to come by these days.

Well said!
I don't post here much but read the differnt fourms on a daily basis. Lots of good info and some great guys here. I have purchased alot more than I have sold here and things have always been right with me.
We used to be 4-5K members we are now 69,000 members!!
I don't like all the pop up ads either but they have to make a buck. I think the classifieds here are great! I've found some good stuff. Sometimes, the whining about how things are get to me more than anything. I hate to sound like an ass but if you don't like the way things are here, go start the perfect forum and invite all of us to come join.

Agree.

Also someone said to have email notices for new posts on the classified. I don't live online; I am on in the morning and in the evening at the very most. We're competing against members that work online, they have the advantage over us members that don't work online. Most of the time you see the items you missed and sometimes you get lucky
There has been a big change since the pandemic started. At any given time there are 2-3 times move people logged in to the classifieds and many of these folks have more flexibility and time available to surf the internet. Certain items have become scarce at retail so there are a lot items that are snapped up without consideration for the relatively high prices. Hopefully this will get better someday but for now we'll just need to adapt. Cheers

This also makes some sense, so thanks to the liberals and a fake pandemic
I'm always too late to buy what I want, but I have been able to give something away and too scared to sell anything because of low posts.
Dusty

Low post counts should not deter you from buying or selling on the fire. I relatively new and have a low post count relative to the founding dinosaurs still roaming this forum (🤣 just kidding?). The majority of members here are terrific and straight shooters, save some real turds. I have always been respectful honest, and prompt in my dealings (all buying no selling yet) and everything always works out. The fire One of the best resources on the web to date bar none.

Sheer membership has obviously taken the "hometowniness" of yore away, but that is what it is and should be anticipated.

Enjoy everything while it's still around. Lots of great people and info on here

Be safe.
I’ve gotten to the point, where if someone is looking for something, and I have an excess I will offer it to them, and say pay it forward. So far it has worked fine and they’ve always were grateful and said thanks. There lots of good people here!!!!
At least gemby58 and his cohorts Chudly and Smoloman haven't been on here since Dec 28th (coincidence??). Seems quite a bit more civilized this last month.

Noticed this a few days ago; don't miss the drama at all. Rick must of had enough of it too.

Yep, still a lot of solid gentleman here.

Someone referenced folks PM'ing in anonymity and communication manners displayed – BIG +1 to that.

You PM with an inquiry, you best introduce yourself - it's what men do.
Oh, for the good old days!!!!
Have been on the side of missing good deals.

But as they say, "Don't Hate the Playa, Hate the Game"

(Lost out of some good deals in the past too)

Is this a Classified Post, maybe should be elsewhere IMHO
I know some have given up on WTB ads because of scammers, but in my experience, you can find rifles here that you aren't going to find elsewhere and for very reasonable prices.
I’m still pissed cokes don’t cost a nickel anymore, they did away with party lines and then Al Gore had to go an invent the internet and really screw things up🙄

This would be a great feature
Should have a separate forum for firearms and one for other related stuff (ammo, knives, clothing, etc.) That would be very helpful.

How are you gonna find stuff you didn’t know you needed?

Bingo. I'll judge a member more on communication and manners than post count.

And I agree with Denny, there's still a lot of good guys here, including Toby.😀
Things change, what doesn’t? Troublemakers come and go, read the previous posts above for some of the latest drama. If you stay above it / out of it, it shouldn’t matter to your life. It hasn’t to me in 12 years. I joined in 2010, my first post was a “WTB” ad for a 30-06 - oh how stupid was I back then! We could have a little contest for people to guess who was the person who responded to me with “a great deal” - I should give away a free Wendy’s frosty to the winner…

It was none other than —————- Safariman! He had some Mauser action based bastard of a rifle he would let go for the low, low price of $400. I even think the photo of it was on the hood of the infamous Chevy Avalanche which became the source of much conversation within the next 2 years. No, I did not buy it.

I have done at least 100 transactions on this forum in the last 12 years, never been ripped off. Some haven’t gone perfectly, I remember purchasing a Burris Signature HD scope that was supposedly NIB. It might have been, but the box wasn’t sealed and any moron could see the reticle was canted so bad Stevie Wonder could have seen it. Somebody just made it my problem by selling it to me. I sent it in to Burris, they repaired it, I eventually sold it on locally. Ironically the seller could have driven it to Burris’s front door he was so close, I think he had something to do with their 2nds as he sold a bunch of Burris stuff. Oh well. I remember his screen name and pay extra attention if he is selling something I may be interested in.

I bought a Nikon Coyote scope prob 9 years ago. Seller got bent out of shape with me because I assumed shipping was included, but he said it wasn’t. Ad didn’t say either way. Just poor communication, so i sucked up and paid the shipping. He attitude and communication to me was rude and accusatory. Still remember his username, lesson learned.

Two months ago I was looking for 100 shells of nickel plated 308. Seller contacted me with 100 cleaned, sized, primed Federal pieces. Exactly what I was looking for, less than 24 hours within my initial posting! Paid what he was asking, didn’t even try to negotiate, and was ecstatic with the transaction. I could not have found those with primers ANYWHERE else. This place is awesome for stuff like that, but even more so for the collective wisdom of people who know an incredible amount about firearms, shooting, the outdoors, etc.

1) All the good guys have left.

2) I often respond to PM's sent to me w/o signing my name. If I initiate contact I generally introduce myself. I figure anyone that doesn't know my name at this point hasn't been paying attention.

It's not personal.

IMO only firearm related items should be allowed for sale and pictures of items should be required.

You have a right to your opinion, but I absolutely disagree. I've bought and sold plenty of items unrelated to firearms on this site. The classifieds is a marketplace. If there isn't any interest in an item it won't sell.

The difference between a community and a market place.

A big, huge, frickin' amen to this. I know common courtesy isn't so common anymore. But come one people. At least feel compelled to exhibit it while trying to transact business with someone. I pm'd a member several times trying to arrange a deal. Absolutely zero response, for three pms. My eventual response? "Numbnuts has removed himself from this conversatioon". Yes, he read each one as it was sent.

Why would you send a pm without at least simple manners? I answer them in a friendly manner; but, I get sick of pms with nothing else but: "best price?", "why selling?", "trades?". Good grief people, have a conversation and sign your name, even a fake one. Put your frickin' location under your handle. These are minor pet peeves and I treat all the same irrespective of the above lack of good social skills.

This. Communication is key. If I send a PM about buying an item, you'll get my full name, cell phone, and email. I provide the same when someone PMs me interested in buying something. That way the 'fire isn't the only method of comms. Just this morning, tclubber called me because he needed something re-sent via email to ship a gun I bought from him. Because I didn't respond to the PM because I hadn't been on the computer. Which is why I provide my cell number. Perfect. The deal with him has gone great because there is lots of communication. And I trust people who communicate well.

Definitely would appreciate a breakdown of sorts like they’ve got on some of the mustang forums for example, like firearms, firearm parts, ammo and reloading supplies, and a miscellaneous spot each.

On another note for those commenting on the lack of introduction or contact information in PM inquiries on stuff listed, pretty much boils down to how much you trust folks on the internet. I’m not a big trust guy, if it’s someone I’ve done business with several times successfully I’ll usually give mine

I can understand that. For someone like myself, as soon as I give you my name, you can run it through Google and find my cell phone and email very easily. I'm a Lutheran pastor, so it's easily available.
