What is the contour of the barrel??
Pm sent
I've got 2 of these and they are by far my favorite rifle for calling 'cats in tight cover.

I think that all of the 597 Magnums with green laminated stocks came with light/sporter contour barrels with open sights, while those with brown laminated stocks came with heavy/varmint contour barrels.
Whoever buys this, I have 3 factory mags cheap.
light contour barrel- no sights but is is drilled and tapped for them
I have one in 17hmr its a tack driver!
.17 was recalled. I let mine go. That’s where my mags came from.
I had a bad run with 597 22lrs
Than I took a chance on a 597 mag glad I did it really proved to be accurate and dependable don't have thousands down mine but the rounds that I do have been fine

Have a Tupperware would not mind a laminated

Good luck with the sale

Had no idea there was a recall my dad brother and I all have one consecutive serial #s I believe. It's been in the safe for a good 15 years. What was the recall?
If I am not mistaken the recall was due to the 17 having to much pressure for an automatic and it was causing some of the guns to blow up. I think if you send it in to Remington they will change the barrel out for a 22 mag.

Good to know, i shot mine quite a bit but the other two probably have less than 100 rounds down the tube. I'll look into this. Thanks again.
Since they have been recalled, if you still have the original boxes and stuffings, they might become collectible at some point down the road.

Safety First

Always observe the ten commandments of safe gun handling and wear approved eye and ear protection anytime you are shooting.
I had a 17 HMR in the 597 heavy barrel and it was a tack driver. I was using it and the round came apart cycled the bolt half way back and blew the clip up in my hands. Half of the round was still in the barrel. I called remington and they where very helpful and very concerned about if was injured in the malfunction. I returned the rifle and they replaced it and paid everything shipping both ways etc. I later sent it in when the recall came out and they sent me a $250.00 check to use on another remington purchase. I picked up a 17 Fireball in the SPS when they were cheap to buy and never looked back. I replaced the HMR with a ruger single six in 17 HMR.

Savage A17 is the only semi that is safe from what I know. It features a delayed (or retarded) blow back system so all the powder gets burned prior to opening the action.

The Ruger 10/17 or whatever they called it was put away also for said reasons.
