The scope would be on a Tikka 7mm 08, I hunt in Washington so the conditions could be rain forest or mountains.
FF2
FFII, Hands down
I would mount the Burris FF2 on that Tikka. I have one on a Tikka 270 and it works just fine.
FF2
Elite 4200…
I like eggs.
Why go with the plex reticle when they make a ballistic plex? I wouldn’t waste my money on the standard duplex reticle. There is no benefit by going with a standard plex reticle. About as worthless/useable as the gloss redfield I bought today for $29. You damn sure aren’t going to be dialing that burris

This ^^^^^, it's easy enough to figure out the hash marks in a single range session and the scopes are almost bullet proof for a set and forget.

I am a huge fan of the Long Range MOA Reticle myself, adaptable to just about any cartridge and takes a minimal amount of seat time to get the ballistic information you need for your rifle and ammo combination.

Great post. I often wonder how many guys actually do what you just described. It’s not hard to do, like you said. One range trip and you have all the info you need. The FFII’s strong point is not in dialing, but it holds zero like nobody’s business. It’s up to the op, but a plain Jane reticle is worthless unless you are only shooting to about 150 yards. My 30-30 is good for about that far, so I use a Leupold on it.

This is my t3x 7mm-08 with an older Burris FF e1 3-9x40 illuminated dot. Reticles are a little different style than the FF 2 but essentially the same scope with a dot. Does fantastic on deer, would do the same on a lot of other big game as well.

When I get home I’ll post up some pics of a properly set up Tikka 7mm08, and how it performs with the ballistic plex reticle.
Thanks for the replies where can I get a Burris 2
I like Leupold, know they ain’t worth a cshit, but are great for the hunting I do.

Natchez was good for Burris scopes but since Burris discontinued the FF2 a few months back they are out of stock. Amazon has the 3-9 on sale for $130 and I just grabbed 2 more to add to the stockpile. Think I have 8 or 9 of them stashed away now.
I am going to order one from Amazon

Yes.

Tally lightweights are nice too
I prefer the Burris FFII but with the Ballistic Plex reticle. It's a fairly bold reticle so I don't think you're sacrificing anything, and you get the ability to shoot out to 400-500 yards with an actual aiming point when needed.
All this love for FFIIs & Burris discontinued them. Wondering why?

Tried a FFIV & the tube was too short to get proper eye relief on a long action. Lucky I had a set of old double extension rings in the junk box.

Everything comes to an end. Your post is stupid, you obviously don’t know the history on the FFII 3-9x40 with ballistic plex reticle. I’ve been using them since the late 90’s. That means they have had a hell of a long run. How many variations of the 3-9x40 has Leupold had in that span? That’s about 25 years, in case you can’t do the math. Those that have not tried that particular model, are missing out. Like I’ve said before, show me a more useable/simple and reliable scope. At 13 ozs it’s not a heavy pos too. Those in the know provide similar results that I’ve posted many times. And sorry to say, you guys that use standard plex reticles, just can’t reliably place bullets on target out to 4-500 yards. That’s simple truth. If you don’t get it, that’s on you.
Really show everyone and post all the hard charging pics and kills from the past 25 years.

Surely as much as you like pics and want everyone to post pics to prove claims you can handle this.

I’d go with a fixed power scope if I could find one. The only good reason to buy a variable is because you can’t find a fixed power scope, in my opinion. I’ve been guilty of buying variables myself just because of that reason.

Of the two you mentioned I’d pick a FFII set it on the appropriate power and never adjust the magnification again.

Off my soap box.

Good luck in your hunt, sounds like fun.

I like the FFII with the Ballistic Plex and have bought a few spares for future use. Still, it’s a bit of a stretch to say a standard duplex can’t get past 150. A hunter can easily go at least a hundred more with a plain Jane Leupold 4x.

GFY. My post is just fine to convey what I was trying to ask. I dont give a rat sass about the history of the reticle. I was wondering why a successful design was being discontinued. That's all. Nothing more. So carry on being an obtuse know-it-all jaggof. Oh, & GFY again.
You want to argue do it on your own post.
NOT MINE

I just ordered a 6.5-20x50 FFII last month. they are still in stock and so is the Droptine with the Ballisticplex reticle
Leupold. They are both set and forget. Leupold is lighter, has better eye relief, and is a longer tube.

JMO
This is an easy one. Why make it difficult?

Op has a Tikka 7mm-08. Here's a Tikka 7mm-08 with a Burris FFII 3-9x40 with ballistic plex reticle:
[Linked Image from i.imgur.com]

Now to show the virtues and beauty of the ballistic plex reticle. Ammo was handloaded 150gr Nosler partitions, so nothing with a super high bc. Just a proven hunting bullet:

100 yards zeroed:
[Linked Image from i.imgur.com]

200 yards to verify second hash mark down:

And 400 yards, 4th hash mark down. Shooting in the wind. Poor wind correction on my part. Figured the 150gr partition would require more of a wind hold:
[Linked Image from i.imgur.com]

And yes, the rifle gets hunted. For those that don't know me. I do more than just punch paper with my rifles. Here's the rifle in the woods before I switched the stock:
[Linked Image from i.imgur.com]

Many reasons to go this route on a good hunting rifle, like the OP's:

1. Simplicity
2. Ruggedness
3. 13 OZ's
4. Good glass
5. Classic look
6. Not bulky
7. Top notch reticle (ballistic plex).

Again, a simple test to go out and set targets at 100, 200, 300, and 400 yards. See if you can place your bullets where you want them with your Leupold duplex reticle scope. How consistent is it?? "One shot, one kill is what I strive for". YMMV on that though.
^^^This^^^

Hard to argue with these results. The BDC reticle works well out to 400yds.
Nice Mat!

150 ? Maybe if you're shooting a .44-40 or similar. 300 is easy with any reasonably flat cartridge .243, .270, .30-06 etc.. Hell 200 is easy with a .30-30.
Before I learned to twist a dial I used the junction of the thick and thin parts of my duplex for an aiming point and on my 7mm RM rifle at the time with a 250 zero that was right on at 400 yards.
Was still pretty easy to shoot to 500.

Now I have to many chamberings, loads, rifles and scopes to remember WTF which dot is which on BDC style reticles. So I just dial. If I don't have time I'll just wing it or not shoot, whatever feels right at the moment.

I believe they are just discontinuing the FF2 for now and the Droptine is staying.
Where to find: https://www.amazon.com/Burris-Fullfield-Hunting-Ballistic-Reticle/dp/B000MM2QU8?th=1

3-9 or 4.5-14 either or $129. Package deals available with rings and such. I have three in the safe recently purchased.

Rings? Do not know about Tika. Win 70 PF XTR in 7 RM had to have medium Tally LW to clear the barrel.
Thanks to all of you.
