I have a couple of rifles that have their scopes mounted using Buehler Scope Bases and Rings.

Probably for many here, they're not going to be too familiar with these, but 20+ years ago, they were a highly respected small manufacturer of Rings and Bases down in the S.F. Bay Area.

They're a very "streamlined" shaped ring that are vertically split, but use an "adjustable" shim in them so there's no opening split on the top.

Anyway, because of this shim, unless a scope is almost exactly the SAME tube dia. as the next (and most aren't that close) a new shim, or rings, has be be obtained when switching scopes.

Well I want to switch scopes on this particular rifle. Because the rifle's no longer made (Ruger #3 in .22 Hornet), getting someone elses bases isn't going to be all that easy either! (Doesn't have the Rib, like a #1)

The other day, I was browsing through some gun magazine (think it might of been the American Rifleman) and I saw a tiny ad saying "We're Still Around" and then some info about Buehler Scope Rings/Bases. Like an idiot, I thought, "Oh good, I can just go online and locate them" and paid NO more attention to the ad.

I went online and CAN'T find Buehler! And I can't find the ad either!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

Does anybody here KNOW where I can find whoever has/makes "Buehler"s anymore?!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/help.gif" alt="" />

I was hoping some of the informed shooters on this site might be a good place to look!

Oh! And one other question...does anybody know IF the "Redfield Style" (Redfield, Leupold, Burris, etc.) Rings will fit a Buehler Base? That would be an EASY fix!
I recently picked up a set of Buehler rings and bases for my Sako. Weatherby rescued Maynard Buehler's company and sold the rings and bases until recently when they discontinued them. They're still out there, but are getting harder and harder to find, especially the medium height rings and bases for uncommon firearms.

I've never tried it, but just by looking, I'd say that only Buehler rings will fit Buehler bases. The front ring has a larger post and the rear ring has a larger base than the Redfield/Leupold rings. As far as I know, they are or were, proprietary. They are very nice and little appreciated for their fine workmanship. Many of the fine custom guns I see listed for sale have Buehler mounts.

Give them a call to see if they're still in business:

I did, and they're still there (again, "sorta").

I ended up talking with Bob Ray, who I hadn't spoken to in about 28 years! I guess he is still there running things and cranking out a few rings now and then. He said he'd worked there for 50 years now! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" />

Anyway, they don't make bases anymore but still produce rings for a whopping $65/pr.

I told him that I'd recently seen an ad somewhere saying they were still in business and he said yes, but only in one publication which is The Gun List.

I guess I'll try to get what I may need now...I'm not sure how long any of this stuff's going to be around. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

I also have three sets of two piece bases

1-Sako Dovetail for medium or short action (Code SDS)

BillC and WMacD have first shot at the #7&8 rings but the low rings are available. I am asking $40.00 per set of rings and $25.00 per set of bases. Shipping is $5.00 for any quanity. PM me if interested.
I'll take the Sako bases. I sent you an e-mail about the rings.
The medium #7and high #8 rings are spoken for as well as the Sako bases.
M16, do you have Buehler stuff left for sale?
O K. They still make rings. Now what do we do for bases. I have a couple of sets of rings and would love it if I could find some bases. The only base I have is for something other than what I have now. I let an engraved set go (BAR) a few years ago. Big mistake. WMacD is correct. Beuhler base is specific. BillC, you may be in luck. The older versions had the center top insert made of very thin laminated steel and if too thick, one could carefully peel away a layer or two. Best wishes, jack
Sweet! That means I can finally get a set of 30mm Buehler rings!
Not to rain on parades here but....
Before THREEDFLYER's bump this thread hadn't seen the light of day in 6 years...
Just get some S&K's. Even prettier.

*slaps forehead*
I have a base for a short action model 70 and a set of rings, the box they are in is marked extra high, but they appear to be mediums or lows. I believe the extra high rings were put on the rifle and the medium or low rings were put in the extra high box. I am unsure of the value of the rings. If you are interested PM me and we can work something out.
Guys, I have just traded for a large box of bases, mostly Buehler. I have not sorted them, they are all used/VG. I know I have one piece for Rem 721/700, Rem 722, Win 70 long & short, Enfield/Rem 30S, XP100/Rem 600, Rem 600 Mag, Mauser 98, Browning Sporter (BA maybe BAR), FN/HVA 98. No rings, sorry.

$30/ea shipped 48 Cont/US

Email if interested

Thanks
I had a set that came on a rifle. I gave the rings and bases to my gunsmith since I use only good stuff like Burris Signatures.
Hello all,

I am looking to purchase some 30mm Buehler rings. Can anyone point me in the right direction (I called the manufacturer and they haven't made any rings in the last 10 years :()
Thanks!
You will have to scan E-Bay & Gunbroker and every once in awhile, they will show up. Prepare to pay up for 30mm Buehlers thought, since they are quite uncommon.
I would be interested in #8 highs. Reply if available please.
I may have some rings, I will 👀 look
Coming in late, but I'm here. .. I am seriously needing 30mm high rings for my Buehler base. I have a 50mm objective lens that I hope/believe the high rings will elevate enough. Can anyone help?
Could anyone tell me which model fits the 98 / FN Mauser or the small ring 98?
I guess I junked the Buehlers I had.
I still have one set, I will dig them out.
I know the Ruger # 3 bases are a no go but might not hurt to check with Weatherby if you need rings they might have some left it's worth a call

Bump... no body needs/wants a new scope base?

I have an ad on the campfire for NIB Buehler bases and rings with screws for a Python.
can someone explain to me the "shim" element? In an enthusiastic fit I picked up a set of Buehler bases and rings for a pre-64 Winchester model 70, but my gunsmith was not high on using them. He specifically cited the need for shims. I do like the clean look though. Are the shims an extra part made by Buehler that I need to find (I only have bases and rings)? thanks

I found lots of rings and bases on e bay, but was never able to find the shims for these. Lots of Weatherby bases which are the same as Remington 700, mostly high rings, but beware the highs are really high. Lows which are rarer are about right for 40mm scope. I've got a set that is shimmed on my Model 70 from the 60's.. Shimming was done by tightening the ring on the scope with various shims in place and then measuring the bottom half of the split ring to determine the proper shim. I used to have the instructions but can't find now. The shim as far as I can tell just closed the gap at the top split ring.
I'd like to buy your Beuhler bases for my Weatherby Mk V rifle, in 300 Wby mag. I'm new here, so having difficulty moving around on the site. I am in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. My email is [email protected], phone is 343-363-2267.
