Anybody using one? I am contemplating buying this scope for deer and fox. I've heard good about the glass, but haven't read anything about the tracking and durability. Thanks, RJ

Have two. As far as tracking and durability goes, I've set them up and have had no issues. They aren't on anything over a 30-06 and I haven't dropped them or banged them around much. Good scope in my opinion. Love the #4 reticle.

My favorite scope. I have 2 and will buy another for a spare. Excellent glass; clear and bright. Somewhat expensive, but WAY cheaper than a Schmidt & Bender 6X Klassik. Made and assembled in the Czech Republic, if it matters. The Meopta version of the #4 reticle is awesome.

Meopta makes excellent products and sucks when it comes to marketing. Without word of mouth by folks in the know, nobody would really know how great their products are
Posted By: rj308 Re: Meopta Meo-Pro 6x42 - 02/26/18
Thanks for the replies guys. The #4 reticle is what I had in mind. I live in Romania and this scope will cost me about $625 + $15 shipping, I know, the Czech Republic is only a few hundred kilo's from here, go figure. Most American scope retailers will not ship internationally, and if so, the cost would be about a wash after I paid int'l shipping and the 25 percent import tax. I have a few of the older Ziess Conquests and if the Meopta's are as good as them, that's good enough for me. RJ

How did this scope do in JB's Rifle Loony low light test? I thought it was in an older edition, and I think I recall it doing quite well, but I can't find it.

Edit: I did find this.

I have ten of the Meopta 6x42's with the No. 4 reticle, just in case they become unavailable or unaffordable. I don't do any long range shooting so my experience is "set and forget." They track to where I want them zeroed and then they stay there. Last year I shot up several hundred rounds of .308 reloads that were lying around with two of them and encountered no issues with them. The rifles I used for all my old reloads are Tikka T3's. No issues with them as well.

I have no idea how well they do with repeated windage and elevation adjustments for long range shooting or how well they serve as a hammer or being dropped on concrete or being run over by a tractor-trailer.

I think they share the main tube with the Meopro 3-9x42 and noted that the 6x42 price went up since the 3-9x42 was discontinued in favor of the 3-9x40.

I tried the plex reticle. The 6x42 No. 4 reticle is a much better No. 4 reticle than the 6x42 plex reticle is a plex reticle.

Can you comment on the quality of glass relative to any other scopes? Say in comparison to an FX3 6x or SWFA SS 6x?I'm guessing it's quite good.

I am working with Meopta to get our hands on some as new demos of the 6x42's to offer at $499.99. Stay tuned smile

Probably a little of each

I have no experience with the SWFA SS 6X, or the discontinued Zeiss or Swarovski 6x42's. I have had experience with Leupold M8 6x42, VXIII 6x42 and VX3 6x42 as well as a discontinued Kahles Helia 6x42. The Meopta MeoStar 6x42 is at least as good as the Leupold VX3. It does not match the image of the Kahles, which is so good you want to look through the scope just to look through it.
Posted By: prm Re: Meopta Meo-Pro 6x42 - 02/26/18
Thanks GrimJim! A VX3 level of glass is plenty adequate for me.

I'll have to check out a Kahles!

Doug,
Would definitely take advantage of that price point for a great scope.
I'm sure that you'll let us know if you can swing it with Meopta.
Thanks

We have demos of both the #4's and Plex of the Meopta Meopro 6x42's on the way in. Never mounted. $499.99. Please give me a call, 516-217-1000, to place an order
Posted By: ghostrider272 Re: Meopta Meo-Pro 6x42 - 02/27/18
prm:

The Kahles and Swarovski fixed scopes are no longer made. They are pretty sweet though as I have some of both. The Meopta is pretty damn good. I like it better than my FXII 6x36s. The Leupolds are hard to beat as a lightweight scope though.

Thanks. Order is in for a #4.

I like the #4 reticle and think it will be a good scope for a 338 Fed Montana. Only 1.5oz heavier than an FX3, so not bad. The SWFA is a nice scope, but it is heavy and the ^%$!% knobs are ridiculously large.

I have a 6x42 Swarovski and for whatever reason I like to look through it just to look through it as an earlier poster said. It's downside is its reticle which is too fine in the middle and whose thick outer bars don't close in tight enough to the middle.

Someday I'll own a scope with glass like that. At least this Meopta will have a good reticle (#4) for what I do.
Posted By: mathman Re: Meopta Meo-Pro 6x42 - 02/27/18
You're better off with the good reticle. I have a 3-9x42 Meopta and the glass is plenty fine.

just ordered my new 6x42 #4!

Thanks Doug!

What makes the 6x42 more desirable than the 3-9x42 or 3-9x42, unless of course you want the G4 reticle?
Posted By: rj308 Re: Meopta Meo-Pro 6x42 - 02/28/18
The reason I would pick a 6x over a 3x9 is 1) less to mechanically/optically to go wrong, and 2) I have noticed some things about (about me) using rifle scopes when hunting. Many times, using a variable power scope when a shooting opportunity presents itself, I have the scope set at the "wrong" power setting. This may be the case or it may be that I just perceive that it is the wrong power setting. More than a few times in this case, by the time I twist up or down on the power ring, that shooting opportunity ceases to exist. If the magnification is a single power, I can just concentrate on the shot and do it. A 6x is plenty of power for any of my hunting. I do not ever see shooting at much more than 300 yards, realistically. There is a little concern about "getting on" an animal that suddenly appears very close, but in my 45 years of hunting, this has happened ( too much power for the distance) very infrequently. There is also a good chance that when these "pop-up" shots happen, I may be hunting with one of my rifles with Irons, a red dot or a 1x by whatever. Of course I would not take one of my 6x sighted rifles on a driven game hunt, although some hunters here in Romania do. So, 20 years ago I would have absolutely picked the 3x9, but today, especially after experience using a Leu VXII 6x36, I will pick the 6x for my next scope purchase. RJ

I can't say it's "better", but I just like the simplicity for certain applications. I've hunted mostly with 3-9s, but every shot I've taken in the field was on 3x. I played with a 6x last year and realized it will do all I need. I could get the G4 in 3-9 too.

I have a Meopta 6x42 Duplex on my Ruger 77/22 mag and , to paraphrase, it is " the scalpel of Thor" .
Head shots on squirrel at 75 yards is easy.
I have Muledeer's book " Optics for the Hunter", and his explanation that fixed power scopes, with fewer lenses than a variable offer greater clarity, less total distortion with fewer total lenses surfaces makes sense and works for these old eyes.
Also, low light clarity and sharpness is slightly better.
Wearing trifocals, I need all the help I can get.

Got hands on a 6x42 with the #4 reticle today and really like that reticle. THICK on the outside and fine enough for precision on the inside. Have only peered through it, not mounted or adjusted so I can't speak for those. If adjustments are repeatable and solid a zero-stopped elevation dial would cover a lot of ground for my hunting.

Mine arrived today as well! Looks good so far. Will do side-by-side with VX2, SHV, SS 3-9 tonight (Edit: and SS 6X). Often have some deer around the house right at dark. My scope comparison staff!

Debating a turret (Kenton) vs. just sighting in a couple inches high at 100 and calling it good.

Still waiting for my Meopta 6x42 cant wait to put it on my Kimber 358 win
Posted By: Steelhead Re: Meopta Meo-Pro 6x42 - 03/29/18
I think y'all will like them. I've been using the Mepro 6x42 for 4-5 years now. One with a #1 Nazi and the other with the #4 Nazi.
Posted By: prm Re: Meopta Meo-Pro 6x42 - 03/29/18
Mine has a #4. Going on a Montana in 338 Fed. Think I'll just sight it in ~2" high at 100 skip the custom turret. I could shoot further than I've ever needed to with that setup. Definitely won't have a problem with this reticle around dark.

Some scope comparing tonight. Horizon is 27mi. Farms in near ground are ~1.5mi.
Burris FF II 4.5-14
SWFA SS 6x
Nightforce SHV 3-10
Leupold VX2 3-9
Meopta 6x42
Vortex Viper 4-16
SWFA SS 3-9

They all work well in good light.

After viewing at longer distances and then watching a group of does from 20-60 yards until after legal light I’m very pleased with the 6x42. Going to be a great fit with the 84M.

Good to hear - how did the SHV compare to the others?

I'm very pleased with the SHV. As the light goes away it really shines. Only odd thing is the apparent image appears small to me. Not in FOV, or angular measurements, in apparent size. Like looking at an iPhone SE next to an iPhone 8. Same image, just smaller when comparing to an SWFA SS 3-9 for example (set to the same magnification setting). FWIW, the Meopta 6X is smaller than the SWFA 6X too.

For what I want it to do, I think the Meopta 6X with the German #4 will be a great scope. Short of illuminated, that reticle is about as good as it gets for dark woods pointing.

Doe's anyone have the specs on the German #4 reticle? I am wondering about using the vertical post as a secondary aiming point.
Posted By: rj308 Re: Meopta Meo-Pro 6x42 - 04/06/20
I ended up buying the meopta 6x42 sometime in '18 and it has been a great scope. With it on my Stainless A-Bolt 6.5 Swede, I have taken 2 Roe deer bucks. For that, sighting in and any shooting I have done with the scope and rifle, I have had absolutely no problems at all. Me likey! RJ
