A couple of good tailgate shots.....
A couple of hunter absents........
and a couple more hunter absent......
I met up with a buddy of mine and he told me he had just shot a really nice 140 lb. doe. He directed me to the place he shot her from his tree stand. Imagine his surprise when I picked up this "140 lb. representative doe" with one hand. A priceless pic
Flinch
Is this close enough to the tailgate?
My nephew and I shot these two bulls in the exact same spot on a water hole about a minute apart. I shot the first one, it took off and died a short distance away. The next spike walked up and posed exactly like the first one and was standing in the same tracks when my nephew nailed him. Not a bad evening. Flinch
Still my favorite tailgate shot.
When you hunt hogs with TJ you better bring a winch truck.
Still have a long way to go for better quality pictures. This one is about the best I've managed, I also hunt solo mostly and have a heck of a time trying to take a decent picture. This was off a tri-pod and at least I managed to clean up a bit and get it centered.
Now if I could only figure out how to post the image!!
2009 Wyoming antelope in the snow:)
Love those tailgate shots.
A few of the animals only that I really like:
Shot this one while tracking a bull elk. He stood up from his bed at 30 yards and I decided to change the elk hunt into a whitetail hunt:
Shot this one in WY a couple years ago while on my way to Montana for a deer/elk hunt. Found a few sections of state to try for the morning...panned out.
Coues deer from a couple years ago:
Should have covered the blood up with some snow...but still a good picture of a bull I shot in MT:
A bull I shot a few years ago in Wyoming, just like the colors and the trees in this one:

Tailgate/4 wheeler shots are the best
Here's some of my favorites.
My first mulie.
My brother's first buck.
~Ben
Every once in a while I take a picture that isnt too bad.
My brothers buck from several years ago:
My wifes first deer:
Wife again with a WY antelope:
My brother with a MT mule deer:
I wasn't far back. I needed something to lean and hold onto. I was a little beat at the time. We tried to do something about the blood, but had to give up.
Different one, not as messy:
And my favorite pic of all:
No long-arm needed for this one, when they're big.....they're big!
On a serious note I like this one because of the 'backdrop'.
Lots of great pics on this thread!
I don't care if they are long armed, heck when you're 250 you gotta get em away from ya so i don't darf em, LOL. The pictures are all about reminding me of the good times:
Me in Wyoming
Pop and Me in Wyoming
A Damn good day in Wyoming:
What a confused creature...
The lopedeer was also confused....grin
Ah...you caught that...
I shot a small 8 point about three years ago and didnt
have a camera with me. A young lady with a cell phone
took a couple pictures of it and sent it to my email.
Later that day I sent the pictures to my GF and she
told me that the deer looked like it was still alive.
My wife and her first bear.
Bird season late last Fall, creek ice obviously wasn't quite thick enough yet....grin
I rested the camera on a juniper branch for this pic.
Looking for cows, found a deer.
IMHO the best part about the campfire is getting to see everybody's pics/adventures.

Nice buck Sam...really like that last pic with the water in the background.

Yes Ben, that's a real good picture...I'd have a big smile on my face too.
Finally decided to try posting some pics.....
Tailgate pic in Honor of the GOOD OL DAYS
Ten year olds boy first ram... He Shoots better, he shoots berger!Little bit of "Chuck Adams" but his arms are short!
Another ten year old boy, surprisingly his 243 didn't bounce off this 36" off-range bull
My oldest client and one the most enjoyable hunts to date, 82 years young Lola!
Evolution of a trophy picture-
These were with a disposable before I knew what I was doing
And heres a few after I started paying attention to what I was doing-

One of the biggest things that helped me was just trying to get really low and close to the animal, let it take up the whole frame.
Some thru the bino pics...
Ram we named Lucky, we passed him on the first day in search of a ram named Gator
Gator the day we bumped him 5 miles
Bull I chased during the archery season-That day was in the top 5 days of elk huntin and didn't even come close to killing him!
Sunsets are always special to me...especially when there's a 360 bull laying there!
One of my all-time favorite candid shots, Timberline outfitters Archery elk camp, "telling big bull stories"
NMPistolero......that's a BOMBER muley my friend. Whereabouts (generally) did he come from. Great ram pics too....too cool.
Sendero Man is livin' hell on the varmints for sure. Cool pics there too. Once again nice stuff guys. I love it.
Great photos, stories and lessons learned. Though I love heads and horns decorating a home, I think photos memorialize a hunt and help others appreciate what goes into a hunt much better than a mount.
JGRaider, Duwane Adams Camp, Kaibab...It's a very special place! The Muleycrazy bunch had named him the John Wayne buck cuz no one could kill him!!!!

Yes Ben, that's a real good picture...I'd have a big smile on my face too.
Thanks, that was one of the best days I've ever had. All our patience and persistence on our cat line finally paid off.
Here are a few more.
As you can tell from my jeans, "dry" creeks ain't always dry!
My turkey from last year.

Nothing more funny than jubilant dink photos, especially if you do the Chuck Adam's special.
Some of the best pics don't have long arms, people, or even trophies in them..
Ben,
If I could start over, I would pick being you.
Hey Ben, what caliber 600 rem. have you got there?
shrap,
I don't care what anyone says,
Any elk, cow, raghorn, spike, is a trophy.
Ben,
If I could start over, I would pick being you.
You got that right!
Ben is the real deal...
nothing wrong with tailgates.
The 80's...early 80's.
A friend's black bear...neat color..
Crazy Mountains..
Some of you SW Montana guys will recognize this background...
The old homestead..
Tuckered out after a long day of goat hunting.
We shared a great day.....My friend, Scott made a really nice one shot kill on this buck with his .270.
Pat I couldnt help but notice over the years that you- very much like me- manage to take your orange off when its photo time.....
I dont want to get blood on it when field dressing....grin! Seriously, I have it on while hunting where its mandatory. Quite a few states, its not mandatory. I like it off when getting field pics, but it goes back on while packing out.
I love the pictures with kids hunting. Here is one of mine.
ddj

Yep. same-o same-o here........

hahaha! Best one yet!
Another FABULOUS day archery hunting. Flinch
Same trip
Classic, close your eyes and jerk the trigger...lol
A good day shed hunting.
A real whopper!
One of the tuffest hunts I have ever experienced. Free range high country buffalo. 520 yards shot, .30-06, 200 grain Speer Hot Core. Complete pass through behind the shoulder DRT.
Flinch...you been a busy dude!!!
Cool beans...
My oldest boy when he was about 12 with a pair of fur dogs he shotgunned...Park County, Montana I'm guessing about 1992.
Check out this "bou"...Mountain variety with about as good of tops as you'll ever see..
Ben,
If I could start over, I would pick being you.
You got that right!
Ben is the real deal...
Thanks for the kind word guys! I appreciate it.
Hey Ben, what caliber 600 rem. have you got there?
That's my dad's .222. It's got a 2x7 Leupy courtesy of huntsman22 and a Numrich walnut stock. It's a fine little rig.
~Ben
Dang, you guys are making me jealous!
I tend to get out once in a while
I'm working on filling a couple of arks like the Wyoming and Montana boys have. I need to live up in Montana by Pat so I have more and bigger critters. The "once in a lifetime draw odds" and public land hunting here in Utah sucks. I guess it beats only being able to hunt white tail deer, like most people. I have to go out of state to have "fun".
Flinch
Yeepers Pat, that's some mtn bou!
Dober
A few of my favourites:
My son...
One of my best mates...
A nice morning to go for a walk.
Lightning and Little lightning Lakes in Montana's Absaroka Beartooth Wildeness. Taken from near Challis Peak in 1988, while hunting unlimited bighorn sheep. A lot of Yellowstone Park burned up that summer and the forest was closed almost all season....they opened it back up after a good two day rain in mid September. I hiked in, set up camp and found eight rams right before dark about two miles from camp. I went back to the tent and strategized my play on the rams. In the middle of the night a storm blew in and it snowed for five days. I ran out of food and had to leave with a plan to get back in there asap. I got back to town and stocked up and figured I better call to check on the quota...the qouta had been filled and that was that. It was still a great trip and adventure....sometimes you get them, sometimes you dont...
Thats my "big fish that got away" story!....grin!
shrap,
I don't care what anyone says,
Any elk, cow, raghorn, spike, is a trophy.
Damn skippy. A big mature cow is just as hard to kill as a big bull IMHO. This was one of the hardest hunts I have ever been on and one of my proudest elk.
My North Face VE25 up on top. I've owned it for more that 30 years and it sure has served me well. I figured it out one time and I've spent more than 400 nights in it over the years...going to be using it again here in a few days..There's nothing like a bombproof shelter to crawl into after being out all day in the mountains..

Looks like a VE24... I should know, got mine in 1979. Still have it. VE25 came some years later.
Gorgeous, just gorgeous. .......
Nothing more funny than jubilant dink photos, especially if you do the Chuck Adam's special.
Laffin...now there is a classic, Looks like a B&C gopher!
Big ones that got away....but at least we have proof!!!!
Mid 80s buck that I'm pretty sure would have nudged the Muzzleloader state record. Hunter missed him four times from the same spot @ 125-140 yards. He actually shed tears.
Gagger Coues buck 115++ that we stalked all day to get a shot at.... hunter missed at 200 yards. I wanted shed tears!
Big 380s bull. We were making a move on this bull when he decided to bugle one more time alerting another hunter who stumbled into him. Guy shot 7 times within 150 yards to kill him. My tears again!
NM...whoa, those are some incredable misses, reminds us all on the need to prepare so we can make the best of opportunities.
Reminds me of a buck from my past...have to see if I can find a picture.
damn nice muley. be nice to see the other side. it's a nice hunting picture.
great pic's there dog hunter. was that a woof?
Oh you make me feel so good. my first bow bull we found at dark and gutted then overthe ridge and down the steep leading the horses after dark to camp at timberline. we returned the next morn and had it skinned before remembering to take pics. i'm ashamed to show them.
damn pistol, did that big buck come from the southern half of nm. i saw one similar one time on the circle cross 30 years ago while bowhunting.
The old homestead..
Tuckered out after a long day of goat hunting.
We shared a great day.....My friend, Scott made a really nice one shot kill on this buck with his .270.
Scanr, is that you relegated to a wheelchair? As a doc and fellow hunter i'm sorry to see that and wish a great hunter good fortune. thanks for the great pics. rc

same with both of those.. taken right at dark in grizz country. no time for pics until the next day. still have great memories of that hunt !! had nothing but saddle blankets for cover and slept 8 miles from camp. Hunt of a lifetime !
Nothing more funny than jubilant dink photos, especially if you do the Chuck Adam's special.
LOL---And what may I ask is the Chuck Adam's special?
Here is a picture of a net B&C mule deer as we walked up to him
And this is one of my favorite camp pics from a bear hunt 3 years ago in WY
And my hunter snapped this picture as I kneeled down to look at this buck for the first time on a plains hunt 2 years ago. This buck had 18 scoreable points

He's one of my old buds from Bozeman, where I used to live. He owns a shipping service store over there. I was always mailing and shipping from there and we got to be friends. Great guy who loves to hunt....a damn good shot too!..
Stud bucks Drum, that Sonora buck.....WOW! Hey, is Henderson the camp bouncer, crowd control guy or what?
Stud bucks Drum, that Sonora buck.....WOW! Hey, is Henderson the camp bouncer, crowd control guy or what?
Naw, Dan is always the camp "fluffer"
That was a great hunt though!
The Sonora buck is one of my favorites! I thought it was a cool pic, we had literally just walked up on it, the deer was just taking his last breaths and we had not even touched his antlers yet.
Ula, that looks like Dan Henderson on the left there.
Ula, that looks like Dan Henderson on the left there.
It is, that's why I said what I said about crowd control, etc.
I really put the "mohican sneak" on this guy.
Smile for the camera...
My all time favorite is of someone's little boy with his deer . He is making antlers with his hands beside his head. I tried to find it to link to it wasn't able to. Great photo.
really enjoy the pics guys . but after 10 or so pages i have to wonder............where are the tags ? pics of three or four bucks in a truck bed and not a one tagged and others? just sayin'
In Indiana the metal leg band goes by the Tarsal gland on the back legs....you probably dont see it on mine...=...kinda hidden but trust me its there.
thnaks tom 264 ! i ASSUMED i know shame on me that tags went on the antlers everywhere. but i learned something today ! sorry guys
Dont sweat it...its all good.
Same in most states, a carcass tag goes on the carcass
I take pictures first!! Then tag.
Those are priceless. " He had horns like this, honestly"
We do not have to attach tags in AK unless you are a non-resident or hunting one of a very few critters where tagging is required... Tags are notched and carried with you...
A like a natural pose....
Though black and white don't suck
Black and white with a splash of color.
As they laid.
I also like before and after shots as well.
Before.
After.
Ula, that looks like Dan Henderson on the left there.
Dan is my personal fluffer on at least one hunting trip a year. That number will go up dramatically as soon as he retires and has more time to do important schit like hunt
