A "suicide by cop" attempt, perhaps?...... Or, if he was drunk like the story said; he coulda been REAL drunk...... Refuse to drop knife. Charge at an armed cop = You get shot. Drunk or sober.

I would say she gave him every chance to not leak vital fluids all over that nice clean parking lot. Suppose he is lucky to be alive.

She was a lot more patient than I would have been. And I would have shot more than once.

But all's well that ends well, she did a good job.

She waited too long. Very charitable of her, but put her in danger. The guy was obviously seeking suicide by cop. Little did he know, I guess, that most people survive handgun wounds, even to the torso. So all he got was a lot of painful recovery time and a prison sentence, and who knows what permanent medical issues connected to the injury.

Looks like a good shoot to me.

Not a good shoot. She kept letting the sucker walk her around and endangering others in the background. She should have stood her ground when there were no innocents behind him and popped him when he advanced. It appeared as if at one point she was almost running backward. If she had tripped and fallen and made a bad shot....

I think the current issue handgun there is the Glock 17 9mm. I think they recently transitioned to the G17 from the G22 40 S&W. Not sure what the department issue ammunition is currently.

It is unfortunate that modern cops have to make so much effort to de escalate dangerous situations increasing risk to themselves and others. Plenty of lightweights on here would say that she should have tased him or just shot the knife out of his hand. I am surprised that she shot him only once but she definitely stopped the threat.

But, you got a female cop with her gun on the bad guy, he has a knife. I wouldn't touch that with a ten foot pole.

My thought, exactly. Running backwards under extreme duress is highly likely to cause that, and then he'd be on top of her in a second with that knife.

This was a good learning experience for both parties. Hopefully they will make better decisions the next time this scenario occurs. 😏

There was a time that I would have been in agreement that retreat is a poor option. But none of us are cops that have to solve these problems in today's socio/political climate. The bad guy went down, she didn't and the cameras support a good shooting board. I think it will be very difficult to recruit good cops going forward.

Maybe standards will drop enough that starfish can live out his fantasies?...Naaah

New Orleans city is at the point of hiring cops with past records if all terms of associated probation were met. They’re in a bind and have been for some time. The level of crime there is commensurate with that situation.

The officer waited WAY too long. She could have tripped while walking backward so much and then he'd have been on her. Should tapped him much much sooner.

The guy was in the store threatening the people with a knife. These days, every customer in that store had an Iphone, and so did the clerks. He knew damn well it would be called in, six ways to Sunday.

Out in the parking lot he is raging like a Wild Man and threatening civilians with the knife. Easily, ten civilians in that parking lot saw that, and every one of them had the Iphone. 911 is blowing up.

The officer arrives, and he says "Shoot me you bitch I will kill you!" Said it about a half-dozen times.

From the start it was Suicide by Cop.
