Getting a good harvest, Richard?
Posted By: JamesJr Re: Beanin' - 09/25/20
I've not seen any beans combined here yet. Lots of corn though. There are some early planted beans that are close to ready. Most of the soybeans here are planted after wheat and are still very green. They say there is going to be a chance of frost here late next week, and if it does, it will bite some of the late beans.

How are the yields?

They are border line fit. We started Monday, the combine has acted up some. I haven't slugged yet, Praise The Lord!

We had a record dry August, we have not finished the first field yet, I'll guess the yield is around fifty bushels?

Same here. Corn being harvested now...much of it was finished up this week. Soybeans will be a little while longer.

I think the combine is a CaseIH 2377, it's the best, and nicest combine I've ever ran. Mice had some wires chewed on the bean header, those are replaced, the the header control is working well.

So...now you're a Soy Boy? I'm deeply ashamed of you, Wabi.

They're getting after the beans here, and those friggen lady bugs/beetles came out in force. Billions of them and they like to bite.

Looks like you're harvesting fire......

Big crop here in south Jersey, mostly in Salem County. Miles of soybean fields.
Posted By: 5sdad Re: Beanin' - 09/25/20
They've really been getting after them the last few days over this way.
Posted By: 260Remguy Re: Beanin' - 09/25/20
We have about 3 sections of soybeans with harvest set to kick off as soon as the dew evaporates today. Blues sky, full sun, low humidity, and temperatures headed toward the 90s today.

I drove to and from Ames, IA, yesterday and saw a lot of dust clouds trailing behind combines that were out in the fields.

I do feel sorry for the farmers whose fields got hit by the Derecho Winds last month as it is going to be slow going trying to get that downed corn to feed into the combine even if they have a Kelderman Corn Reel installed.

Fellow here in the direct path said that he got 80% insurance on corn.

I'm wasting time now, son is after parts, the combine keeps blowing the fuse that controls the head lift, and down.

Coulda had a Deere!

My FIL was a red tractor green combine guy.

The guy who farms my section on the KS-NE border recently traded in a 2014 JD S660 with over 2,000 hours on it and got $150,000 trade value toward a 2019 S780 with just under 200 hours on it. People who aren't around farming have no clue about the cost of doing business, I know that I didn't before I married into a family.of Germans who settled in Nebraska in the 1880's.

As of 5pm today the guys are reporting an average of 63.5 bushels per acre with 11% moisture.

The wind has been warm and very dry the last 10 days. My guess is the moisture content of the corn and beans is going to be low. That means the elevator won't dock the farmers for wet beans and corn and it takes less propane to dry the wet ones. For those guys who didn't lose any corn or beans to the derecho they might have a good year. Although I know western Iowa from Des Moines to the Missouri has been very dry for about 4 months now.

Northeast and southeast Iowa has had some good rains. Their yields should be bin busters. The middle of Iowa from Des Moines eastward pretty much got the snot beat out of it by the derecho. I've seen some chopped fields between Ames and Cedar Rapids along U.S. highway 30. Apparently they had insurance and don't have to try to pick that beat up corn. That's not so for every one.

I got a good start today on my beans. This bunch looks to be doing 55-60 at 12.5%. As dry as we were in the late part of the growing season I'd be tickled if the whole farm does this.
Posted By: wabigoon Re: Beanin' - 09/26/20
We got nearly NO rain in August, it a wonder ours are doing as well as they are. The first field at 56.
Posted By: 260Remguy Re: Beanin' - 09/26/20
The farmer called this morning and said that they stopped about 9pm when the dew started to form on the pods. Average yield at 9pm was 66 bushels per acre at 11% moisture. With 2 combines, 3 grain carts, and 2 semi-trailers working they cut around 220 acres with 35' heads in about 7.5 hours of run time. They broke an auger on one of the grain carts, but no other breakdowns yet. I'm on call to run parts from dealers east of Lincoln, NE, when needed.

Nearly everything around here was planted late. They started cutting rice and corn a few weeks ago. Most of the corn is gone now. I have not seen anyone cutting beans yet. Yields are down a little from normal.

Drove to a small town for dinner last night around 20 miles away (the ol lady likes it, clean, quiet and no urban types).
Quite a few combines taking beans.
Dusty, kinda screwed me up.

Starting to harvest corn around here. Beans aren't ready yet.

Curious, are these 66 bushel beans under a sprinkler?
Posted By: ERK Re: Beanin' - 09/29/20
Some of the bean s here took a beating from the early frost the first week of September. Early seeded went 49 bu and those seeded just a few days later in the mid 20s. Corn and flowers also damaged. Edk

Finished last night just ahead of some rain. Earliest I've ever been done with beans.
Posted By: wabigoon Re: Beanin' - 10/03/20
We finished at 9 night Wednesday. Earliest ever. Yields from 56, to 42.
