Best damn wool boot socks I've ever purchased were from the Sportsman's store in Meeker Colorado in 2007. Wish I could remember the damn name since I wore them out. No where near 30bucks though.
I still use the 1st pair of Smart Wool that I bought >10 years ago. Buy enough so that they get rotated frequently. Cost amortized over time = a great deal magnified by the pleasure of wearing good stuff.
Darn Tough....made in Communist Vermont by communists probably.
Paul Bunyan, full cushion over the calf size xl.
Ordered two pair.
These things better be good.
How can a pair of socks be that expensive??
American Sheep Industry has socks too. Wife likes em.
Reece brand?
Communist Vermont that just re-elected its Republican governor by a 70/30 margin over his Progressive challenger. Don't confuse all Vermonters with those from The People's Republic of Burlington, which is Bernie's bailiwick.
Darn Tough Socks is an employer of dozens of fine Vermonters, and has not sold out to some big foreign corporation, like Ben & Jerry's or Green Mountain Coffee Roasters. They offer Military, Veteran, Medical and First Responder discount codes. It costs money to make premium quality, lifetime-guaranteed products in the USA. Thanks for paying the price.
Four pages in (on my screen) and we have yet to hear the standard 'fire response to such queries that would castigate the person asking for questioning the price and suggest an alternative that would involve raising your own sheep (maybe even impregnating them yourself), shearing them, processing the wool, and making your own socks. The way this place is going downhill is appalling.
i thought i was crazy for spending 6 bucks/pair for bombas. but the bombas are nice socks. very comfortable on the toes. but the ones i got are just normal weight dress socks.
believe it or not, good socks make your feet a hell of a lot more comfortable. the bombas don't have any seam to crunch up in the toe box of your boot. i wear them exclusively unless i know i'm going to trash my feet, then i wear schitty old tube socks.
My wife has always loved to wear a pair of new socks. Never had much as a kid, but new socks to her were a treat.
After hearing the chatter here, I bought her some for Chrtistmas. She loved them. So she got more for another holiday. Then bought her own, and she is FRUGAL.
Never tried a pair. Ain't no dam way I'm paying $20+ for a pair of socks,

Everything goes downhill when democrats are in charge.

Funny thing about the socks. She has trouble with cold feet and these things keep them warm, but they don't sweat. Even if she wears heavier ones on a warmer day. She often will wear them a couple days. Something she always gave me heck for.
Worth every penny. Darn Tough socks are all I wear anymore. I have four pair of the mountaineering socks , five of the quarter tops , and five of the no show ankle socks. The oldest are going on six years and hardly show any wear.
Big Jim, if you have a local snap on dealer around up there grab a couple pair of his wool socks and give them a try .I own some darn tough socks and the snap on ones are right up there with them for a lot less money.
Oh, I'm wearing a pair of Smart Wool socks today, medium cushion and pleasantly warm, with zero complaints, day three in them.
Don't assume all of one brand perfect. The options make the value, just like any other gear. I recently decided one pair of Darn Toughs I have are not as good as the other versions.

I don't agree at all. I wear cheap cotton socks with everything. Shoes wear out much faster than people realize. They are like cars, can look great and still be shot. You can replace inserts or whatever but you need to replace footwear regularly.

Huhh? My shoes and socks last. I used buy junk that wears out fast and promotes bacteria. No more.
Ditto , few years back I was at Menards to get something and they had a display of Merino wool socks with a blend of poly pro inside to wick moisture.$2.00 a pair bought 10 pair on the spot to good to pass.up. still happy with them.mb
Back when working at the pulp paper mill guys talked about how nasty their feet were, hunting and otherwise. Each one wearing cotton tube socks like a little boy. They couldn't fathom the concept of merino wool when I mentioned it, especially for summertime! Fuuucking SW Washington morons with rotted ball sacks wearing tighty whiteys too!

Ask your doctor. I'm just some rando on the internet.

I used to wear socks constructed like those, Wigwam, REI etc, like the Costco ones I suppose. First step up from cotton. But, they stretch out and are never ever in the same class as Jim's new ones. Seriously, a 5 year old premium will be better than a brand new "looser weave".

I have 2 of their "Extrerme Warmth Hats" and they are. One for hunting in gray/orange, one in brown for wearing when not hunting. Based solely upon the hat, Alpaca makes Merino feel like steel wool.

Ask my doctor about what? Fuucking tube socks?
Ask him/her why you are a grumpy old man. He will tell you its because you have a sore back from worn out shoes.

LOL. Funny, but, my shoes are not worn out. And my socks don't stink, real bad.

Good to know they are unreliable.
No, just saying that there are many versions, they're not all the same construction. I think they will be perfect for summer actually. Again, remember all the guys that have said they're great, even Alaskans.... First hand reports vs your basis for your opinion.
What recommendation do you have for something to wear under pants?
I've looked at some merino ones, usually cost more than my Wrangler Riggs pants and shorts.
Like undies? The very very best were a model from REI a few years ago. They changed them since so not certain as I have not tried the new ones. Damn things from 2017 are just like new, and have seen some real truckin! LOL Funk free.
I decided to switch from the Wrangler Riggs Ranger pant in favor of the USA made Carhart B01. No cargo pocket but Made in USA and built tough. Seems very rugged and protective.
Possibly offsets my China optics and AR rail/sling mount accessory purchases a little... Maybe.
Hold Up Suspenders too!
USA also, someone here turned me unto Chapman Tools from CT, for driver bits. I have invested.
And an SK screw driver and Malco prick punch.
A few basic nylon slings, USA made.
Also, a MR Heater brand heater, not USA but not China either. I'm trying.

The last Riggs I bought were from Nicaragua.....not China than God.
I've looked for a good pair of USA made cargos, not recently though. Maybe someone knows of some. Tried a pair of the Duluth firehose pants, didn't hold up as well as the Riggs for me.
It’s just personal preference Boomer. I like a looser weave, I have two pair of wool socks I just love. Can’t find the name or remember or I’d buy more of them. I don’t like anything that constricts my toes one iota. The Dt’s do that right outa the gate for me.
I can like them as a winter dress sock here, but just not my faves for hiking, hunting etc.
I can get by with them, just not my faves
Good thing we only have to make ourselves happy w what gear we buy & use
Dungeness sells the USA made Carhart B01 seconds for $30, $36 shipped or free shipping over $50. Great companyin my experience. Wish it had the Riggs style cargo pocket but I am getting by....

you dont change your socks everyday.......bob
Nope, generally not unless I sweat a lot. They simply don't need it. Bacteria doesn't infect merino wool like other materials. Cuts down on the chance of the wife loosing them in the laundry, can't afford that chit!

A clean rifle and healthy feet are the primary tools of the warfighter. When I was in A & I w/ the 173rd in RVN I was informed in no uncertain terms by a scary old SMAJ w/ a Merrill's Marauders patch and 3 wars on his chest that doc will inspect every troops feet at least once/day no matter what.
Modern, premium boots are designed to enhance your performance and protect your feet. When working 40 hours a week on my feet I replaced my Lowa Desert Zephyrs every year, they were intact but the soles were worn and the cushioning was shot. Putting on a new pair was a huge improvement. Like running shoes, boots should be replaced frequently if used frequently. The old days of heavy leather norwegian welt boots that were resoled are, thankfully, a thing of the past if you choose to treat yourself. good boots and good socks make work or play better and are an investment in yourself.

Jim, I have been using the bamboo fibre worksocks for the past few years as they are comfortable and they stop foot odour, they are also cheap and easy to replace from various ebay sellers.
