Homeowners dig up duffel bag full of guns in backyard
By KPHO/KTVK Staff | February 24, 2021 at 8:50 AM CST - Updated February 24 at 11:53 AM
PHOENIX (KPHO/KTVK) – Some homeowners in Phoenix found a duffel bag full of guns while digging a hole for a small tree in their backyard.

The family who lives in the house has been there for four years, but prior to that, neighbors said renters came and went – and before that it sat empty for nearly a year.

“There was a lot of vandalism,” neighbor Yajaira Enriquez said. “They had broken walls and graffiti. I think one time they even had, like, a little party, and I think the cops had came to shut it down.”

While there’s no record of the party, Phoenix police said officers were called to the home Sunday evening.

The firearms are now in evidence. Police said that because of the condition they’re in, it will take a while before they recover serial numbers that will determine who owns the guns, or even the caliber of the guns, or if they’re loaded.

“We’re very thankful for the family who called this in to make sure that if they are connected later to something … obviously related to a crime, that we have justice for that family as well,” said Sgt. Mercedes Fortune of the Phoenix Police Department.

The family did not want to speak on camera, but said they feel uneasy the weapons were buried in their backyard.

They were hesitant about reporting the discovery, but neighbors said they would have done the same thing.

“Yeah, I would have called it in, because I’m a gardener and I dig, so if I would have came across something like that…” Enriquez said.

Aside from the bag full of weapons, Phoenix police said another family made an unusual discovery on the north side of town: 5,000 fentanyl pills stuffed in a kid’s toy they bought from a resale shop.

“Again, they did the right thing,” Fortune said. “They made sure that they called the police department.”

Both the pills and the firearms are in evidence with police as they investigate.

They'll bring a pretty penny on Gunbroker... laugh laugh laugh
What a waste of guns. The current residents are just a pack of snowflakes. They're 'uneasy' about having those rusted up, useless guns on the property. Oh, brother.
i wonder if they are select fire? looks like cartel or gang banger guns. too bad there ain't a crate of ammo with them.
I would like to have found those guns.
It would be interesting to know how much salvageable on each of those.
Could a "survivalist" person have lived at the house before? Could they have forgotten them?

The AR could have been cleaned up and a new barrel and bolt added. Both the top and bottom receiver are aluminum, so rebuilding could be done. Some of the steel ones were rusted. Maybe it was just surface rust. Yeah, if I found them, I would be cleaning them up and see if they were serviceable. Finders keepers.
I wish I found them. That may be a real M4 look at how short the barrel is and I believe the other rifle may be a Galil.
It will take a while to determine if they're loaded?

Good thing they brought in the experts......
And the other two look like a Mac 10 and an uzi what a waste. Wonder if those guns are cartel related.
A little WD-40, they'll be good to go.
They don’t all look to be in such terrible condition do they? I’m assuming the red is rust but the white is just dust?
That's like calling the cops if you found a bag of money 🙄
I wonder what they kept...
Maybe whoever buried them got buried too?
What is the preferred method for burial?
Pre 64 Uzis are worth fortune right?

How about it, maybe they will shoot themselves in the foot with them

That would never happen

I bet they kept the Purdeys and Biesen Model 70's.
They should keep digging. The gun's owner is probably buried nearby.
How rusted up can a weapon get in Arizona??
Now they can be cremated.
This should be a lesson to always bury your guns wrapped tightly in oil soaked rags. We over here were quite proficient in that after the war.
They're in the walls.

Some people have all the luck !!

Dumbasses. Burier and finder.

Duffle bag? Please.
While fixing a watergap alongside the Interstate 10 frontage road I found a Taurus 45 semi-auto pistol. Dont know how long it had been there but it was rusted and pitted pretty badly. Cleaned it up and it still worked fine. Gave it to my son.
Kingston's house?
"Police said that because of the condition they’re in, it will take a while before they recover serial numbers that will determine who owns the guns".....
The reason they were just dumped in duffle bags is because they were used in the commission of a crime...or more likely, crimes.

They didn't tell the cops about the money......
Home owner needs to check behind his drywall..............
Hidey spot = 7.5

Preservation method = -.5 🤦🏼‍♂️
Couple of hours and a can of Never-Dull you're in there!
Wonder if they had serial numbers?

owner should have bought a 3d scanner and printer...
Mags look empty. Looks like a spot a guy could expect to find on return.

Maybe the owner died or is in jail.

Maybe when they run the numbers they will find they are government guns from the “fast and the furious” program.
FTP, be the last people that I would call.

Me and my best bud would be soaking them fuggers in machine oil, break free, etc

Find a bag of cash....oh my call the police. People are so conditioned.
Now might be a good place to state this...Any of y'all find a bag of cash and don't want the hassle of going to the poleece with it, just contact me. Hand the cash over and I'll turn it in for you...act as a sort of go between betwixt y'all and the poleece.
Without a stamp, the AR is clearly a configuration that's a felony. Which I really don't want.

I'd be callin the law as well.

put a longer barrel on it. I'm curious what the serial number might pull up though as initial configuration.
They were going to plant a tree in that gravel? It doesn’t look like a cactus would grow there.
“Hey look!! We finally found some of our Fast and Furious guns!”—-FBI

It's Phoenix.

Cartels or gangs.

Very likely. And keeping, selling, shooting, or bragging about finding guns like that could well get a person in jail or have to shell out a lot of money to stay out.

Those guns would have only spelled trouble to me.

I couldn't imagine a worse looking place to plant a tree

Makes sense to me. If the party who buried them intended to ever recover them, the firearms would not have been buried in a duffel bag. I think they were meant to never be seen again.
