Welp my favorite beer is Samuel Smith Imperial Stout, but at times near impossible to get, very happy to report Deschutes The Abyss is a near copy and damn easy to get, just a community FYI.

Damn, have yo try it. Fan of stouts myself. They opened a brewery up in 16bore’s back yard.

I like North Coast’s “Old Rasputin”. If you’ve tried that one does it compare?
Posted By: gunner500 Re: Deschutes, The Abyss - 03/10/21
It's good stuff Jack, IZH27, i haven't tried any North Coast brews, The Abyss goes with wild pork loin and potato from the grill like hot apple pie and vanilla ice cream.

Marinade chicken thighs in zesty Italian Dressing spiced with teriyaki sauce, pepper garlic powder and cayenne pepper, then stuff the thighs with pickled jalepenos, red bell pepper cilantro and onion, wrap with bacon and put on the grill.

Like their Black Butte Porter

Some of Deschutes beers are named after places I hunted. I could tell you stories about 36" mule deer..... Anyhow, why drink beer when they make whiskey? Easier on the body in moderation.

Nice pitchers GW. Thanks.
Posted By: trplem Re: Deschutes, The Abyss - 03/10/21
Thanks for the heads up. I'll be going the opposite direction-I've tried and enjoyed Abyss on more than a few occasions.

Bend is a liberal stronghold. Pretty town, but SJWs everywhere.

Oh, 10-4, beer with meals, standing over a grill on a hot day, or an ice cold slammer after raking hay etc, 32-64 drams one half to a full cup of scotch whisky is what i have most evenings, i'm immune to that amount, so not chasing a high, just good sipping, it''s good for the blood, heart, etc and makes me sleep like a stone.

If available to you, Founders Porter is terrific. Beer Advocate rates it World Class, #1. Rate Beer gives it 100 points. Lots of chocolate body with very notable hops to balance it out.

Texted Wife, she's going to hit Sodies up in Ft Smith after work today looking for Founders Porter!
Posted By: mathman Re: Deschutes, The Abyss - 03/10/21
Have her get you some Founders Dirty Bastard as well.
Posted By: gunner500 Re: Deschutes, The Abyss - 03/10/21
Ten-fo, thanks Mathman.
Posted By: mathman Re: Deschutes, The Abyss - 03/10/21
Since you like dark, rich "big" beer I'm pretty sure the Dirty Bastard will suit quite well.
Posted By: gunner500 Re: Deschutes, The Abyss - 03/10/21
Nice, cant wait to try it with grill pig, have half rack of ribs and one loin left from wild shoat kill last Nov.

Dang Wife's going to have quite the list ; ] Thanks.
Posted By: mathman Re: Deschutes, The Abyss - 03/10/21
I'll mention Ayinger isn't a trendy brewery cashing in on the "craft" beer craze either. They're the genuine Bavarian article. When I used to visit Munich the hotel where I stayed was owned by them.
Posted By: gunner500 Re: Deschutes, The Abyss - 03/10/21
NICE! Thanks again, she just texted me, some sort of cell app shopping bag is getting full up for Sodies after work! laugh
